    OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY TOWARDS THE SELF-ESTEEM LEVEL OF THE MENTAL DISORDER CLIENTS

    Introduction. The presence of family members who experience mental disorder is a stressor for family so that it takes an effort to help the clients to improve their self-esteem through the occupational therapy. This aim of study was to analyze the effect of occupational therapy towards the self-esteem level of the mental disorder clients. Method. This is a preexperimental research with intact group comparison study design. The samples were selected by purposive sampling are 30 mental disorder clients, 15 clients are in the experimental group and 15 clients were in the control group. The instrument to measure the client’s self-esteem was in the form of closed questions questionnaire. The questionnaire used was the Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale (SES). The occupational therapy was done three times a week. The data analysis which was used to see the effect of occupational therapy toward the self-esteem level in the experimental group and the control group analysis was the Mann-Whitney U-Test. Result. The statistical tests results found that there was no difference in the results of self-esteem clients who do the occupational therapy or not do the therapy (p value 0.850). Likewise, there is no difference before and after the therapy. Discussion. Puskesmas Galur II suggested to continue occupational therapy to maintain and enhance self-esteem client.  Keywords: occupational therapy, self-esteem, clients, mental disorder

    THE LIVED EXPERIENCE OF SPIRITUALITY OF PATIENTS WITH SCHIZOPHRENIA IN BOARDING SCHOOL (PONDOK PESANTREN)

    Introduction. Spiritual reported to have benefits for healing and quality of life for people with mental disorders including schizophrenia. Spiritual can also be a coping strategy for people with schizophrenia. This study aims to explore the experiences of people with schizophrenia who lived in the boarding school. Method. This study uses descriptive phenomenological approach. Participants in this study who were diagnosed with schizophrenia and live in boarding school and general informants. Data were obtained using indepth interviews with a tape recorder, observations, field notes and photographs. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis through hermeneutic interpretation. Results. Three main themes emerge from this study are meaning of spirituality, spirituality experience and the impact of spirituality.Discussion. The purposes of this study are (1) describes the spiritual experience that people with schizophrenia get in boarding school, (2) identify their need for spirituality, (3) identify the impact of spiritual experiences of people with schizophrenia who live in boarding school. Keywords: schizophrenia, spirituality, lived experience

    Introduction. Early marriage is the beginning of the health problems of women, children and the control population. Marriage is too young the age at first marriage under 18 years of age in sub Lekok Pasuruan strongly influenced by cultural factors madura. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of early marriage on the quality of growth and development of children in the District Lekok Pasuruan. Methods. The method used a retrospective cohort study. The study population was women who married young age (<18 years) and children under five. Samples were taken by using random sampling. Data were collected and analyzed using Chi Square test. Result. The results showed that 85% of teens got married early, the child’s growth by weight / height 52% of normal and 77% normal child development. Based on Chi Square test was an early marriage to the child’s growth and development of children and the obtained value of p = 0.000. Discussion.     Introduction. The umbilical cord is a life line for the fetus during pregnancy, because through the umbilical cord is all the need for a fulfilled life. After the baby is born the umbilical cord is not needed, so it must be cut and clamped with the umbilical cord clamping. The rest of the umbilical cord is still attached to the umbilical stump or the baby’s stomach requires good care to avoid infection. The purpose of this study was to obtain the description about effectiveness umbilical cord care booklet provision on knowledge and attitude of postpartum mothers on caring for the umbilical cord in Ajibarang Hospital, Banyumas regency, Central Java Province. Methods. This study used a quasi-experimental with treatment of delivery ISBN 978-979-448-992-5 books about umbilical cord care directly to the subject of the study (samples). Results. The results of this study indicated that knowledge of postpartum mothers before and after delivery of booklet umbilical cord care showed no significant differences on how to care for the umbilical cord (p>0.05). While the attitude of post partum mothers before and after delivery of booklet umbilical cord care showed significant differences, respectively before the delivery of booklet p = 0.029 and after the delivery of booklet p = 0.025. The effect of umbilical cord care booklet to the maternal attitudes about umbilical cord care is having the effect of moderate (r = 0.29). Discussion. The booklet umbilical cord care influential moderate (moderate effect) on postpartum maternal attitudes about how to care for the umbilical cord. Keywords: Postpartum Mothers, Knowledge, Attitude, Umbilical Cord Care Booklet

    INCREASING SELF EMPOWERMENT AND QUALITY OF LIFE OF PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS WITH DIABETES EMPOWERMENT EDUCATION BASED ON HEALTH PROMOTION MODEL

    Introduction. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that requires individual ability of patients to adhere treatment of the disease recommended by doctors. The purpose the study was to analyze the effect of diabetes empowerment education to self empowerment and quality of life of patients with type 2 DM.Method. This study used quasy experiment design with non randomized control group pretest posttest design. Total sampel was 32 respondents divided into control group and experiment group, sample recruited by purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaire with DES (Diabetes Empowerment Scale) and DQoL (Diabetes Quality of Life). Data were then analyzed using Wilcoxon Sign rank test and Mann Whitney with level of significance of 0,05.Result. The results showed that there were differences in self empowerment and quality of life of patients with type 2 DM after intervention. Mann Whitney analysis result`s showed that there are differences in self empowerment between control and experiment groups (p = 0,029) and there was a difference in the quality of life between control and experiment groups (p = 0,022). It can be referred from it that DEE influences self empowerment and quality of life of type 2 DM patients.Discussion. It can be concluded that diabetes empowerment education increasing selfempowerment and quality of life of patients with DM type 2.     COGNITIVE THERAPY GROUP DYNAMICS MODEL FOR REDUCING THE LEVEL OF DEPRESSED PATIENTS IN MENTAL HOSPITAL

    Introduction. The worst impact of depression is suicide, it need comprehensive management. Model of cognitive therapy through group dynamics try to break the chain, so, that the body does not respond to stimuli that lead to increased serotonin. The purpose of this study was create a new model of nursing care, describe the personal characteristics of depressed patients, describe of the level of depressed patients and compare depressed patients between the control group and the treatment group. Method. The design of this study was quasi experiments with pre test and post test control group. The sample study used purposive sampling strategies, that was patients in mental hospitals and selected with screening and than they were chosen with mild and moderate categories. The samples were 32 patients, 16 patients were a control group and 16 patients were a treated group. Patients were given a therapy model for one month which is 2 times a week. After that the level of depression were measured by BECK questionnaires. The data were analyzed by using independent t test. Result. The results showed that the distribution of the level of depression at pretest, 62.5% of mild depression in the treatment group and 62.5% of moderate depression in the control group. The result of post test, the mild depression decreased to 25%, and the moderate depression to 37.5%. The t test results concluded that the two groups there was difference in rates of depression between the control group and the treated group with t value significance 7.000 and 0.000. Discussion. In future studies it would be better if the treatment done in the longer term and depression levels were analyzed periodically. Keywords: Cognitive Therapy, Group Dynamics, Depressed Patient

    Introduction. Hypertension is highest disease in the world, 60 % patient of hypertension occure complication and ended was death. The absolute and relative increases in drinking water were associated with significant loss of body weight and fat over time. The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of hydrotherapy for blood pressure patient of hypertension. Method. Research design was quasy experiment with control group pretest-posttest design. Population was elderly with first level hipertension whose registered at Posyandu Lansia Gedog. Sampling technique was simple random sampling. Treatment group was drinking four glases water after wake up in the morning. Blood pressure was observed twice every day (morning and daytime). Results. Based on the result of data analysis with Independent T-Test assess p=0,001 ( p<0,05) for systolic blood pressure and p=0,028 (p<0,05) for diastolic blood pressure. It means there was influence of hydrotheraphy for blood pressure patient of hypertension. Discussion. So that expected patient of hypertension to drink water every wake up in the morning can be habit or life as alternative control blood pressure.  Keywords: hydrotherapy, hypertension, blood pressur

    STRESS IN NURSING STUDENTS: AN INDONESIAN PILOT CASE STUDY

    Introduction. Previous studies have found that severe stress can occur in nursing students because of their education system; however there have not been any studies to address stress in nursing students, conducted in Indonesian. The studies reinforce that stress in nursing students, is an important factor for nursing lecturers to consider in nursing education. Students felt helpless when they could not change situations they did not like and complained that the learning approach was authoritarian. This study identifi ed stressors in nursing students and effect of stress in the students’ learning process. Method. A case study was used with cognitive appraisal theory from Lazarus and Folkman (1984), as the theoretical proposition. Data was collected by utilizing in-depth interviews with nursing students. Results. There were fi ve evident themes found in this study related to stress and its effect on the students’ learning process. These Themes were: (1). Dormitory living, (2). Learning in the school, (3). Learning in the clinical setting, (4). Personal and socialbeliefs, and (5). Short-term and long-term effects. Discussion. Results indicated that education process used in this particular school of nursing, created stress which impacted adversely on the students’ learning process.     Quality of Life on Chronic Renal Patients Who Running Hemodialysis: A Descriptive Study

    Introduction: Patients with Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) cannot survive if they do not do hemodialysis. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the experience, the hope of patients with CRF who undergo hemodialysis in order to continue hemodialysis routinely and can improve the quality of their lives even though their lives depend on hemodialysis. The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of life of patients with CRF in undergoing hemodialysis as an effort to improve the quality of life. Methods: This study was a quantitave study using analytic descriptive approach. There were 66 patients as sample. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistic using World Health Organization Quality of Life Instruments (WHOQoL-Bref) as a quality of life questionnare. Results: This study shows the highest quality of life of research respondents undergoing hemodialysis in the high category (68.2%). This means the quality of life of patients undergoing hemodialysis is good enough. Conclusions: A good quality of life means that the respondent feels satisfied and most of his daily needs can be met, which includes physical, psychological, patient social relations, and the patient's environment. Quality of life is influenced by the physical condition of the individual psychologically, the level of independence, and the relationship of the individual with the environment. Nurses are expected to be able to motivate patients undergoing hemodialysis in improving their quality of life.

    Introduction. The incidence of complication especially constipation among stroke patients was so much. It cause discomfort during hospitalization. During the stroke patient was treated at the hospital, some patients experienced some limitations both physically and mentally. Those limitations encourage high incidence of complications of constipation, especially in patients who experience immobility in bed. The aim of the study was to identify the most dominant factor that causes constipation in stroke patients. Method.. This study used cross sectional design for data collection on constipation causative factors (diet, fluids, and exercise) and the incidence of constipation. The sample in the study was 40 samples of stroke patient who treated in Dr Slamet Hospital. Data were analyzed by using multiple logistic regressions. Result.There was a significant relationship between constipation with dietary intake with ρ value of 0.004 (α <0.05), exercise with ρ value of 0.034 (α <0.05), and fluid with ρ value of 0.019 (α <0.05). Discussion. To prevent constipation and maintain a normal defecation process in stroke patients should consume enough fluids, exercise regularly and mainly dietary fiber intake is sufficient.
