We present a dialogue between Rosa Borge Bravo, political scientist and lecturer at the Open University of Catalonia (Universidad Oberta de Cataluña) and Raquel (Lucas) Platero Méndez, psychologist –political scientist by adoption- and researcher at the Complutense University in Madrid, in which we discuss the issue of same-sex couple’s adoption in Catalonia. We focus on the legal framework and access to rights in Spain and on the field of Psychology as professional practice, in which public policies are implemented. The 2005 Act allowing same sex marriage established requiremets for all (same and different sex) couples, including among other rights, adoption. Nonetheless, adoption regulation is under regional legislation, and therefore face heterogeneous realities. In Catalonia, as well as other regions, adoptions through public agencies are managed by private institutions, and the social intervention is carried out by psychologists and social workers. In this article, we discuss some cases and assesment reports, as well as the questions taken to the Catalonian Parliament and the reports presented to the Antidiscrimination Public Prosecutor Office, in which the difficulties in profesional practice emerge. In particular, the practice of Psychology shows heterosexist and homophobic biases. We will be concluding by presenting some ideas for a queer and critical psychology.
The National Japanese Sexology Institute forgo a new category for defining those people who don't reach a minimum of monthly sexual intercourses. This article studies a single “sex-less” case by drawing on etnomethodology, cultural anthropology and historical resources in order to challenge the pathologisation of this phenomenon.
A significant victory has been won by a campaign against management victimisation of trade union members at Manchester Metropolitan University. The campaign mobilised the UCU branch alongside a well-organised group of postgraduate students and academic visitors to defend Ian Parker as UCU campus representative following his suspension from the psychology department at the beginning of October. The activities also reenergised the campaign in support of Christine Vié, UCU branch vice-chair who had been made redundant following the closure of the combined honours course where she was based. The events leading up to the suspension, the campaign, and the attempt by MMU now to turn things back to their own advantage provide lessons for activists about management practice in a neoliberal university and what must be done to combat it.Una campaña contra la persecución a miembros del sindicato de la Metropolitan University of Manchester (MMU) ha logrado una victoria importante.

‘New’ literacies: technologies and values
It is too easy to make light of ‘new literacies’ by saying things like: “Well, there are always newer ones coming along”. Such remarks suggest new literacies have a similar kind of life trajectory to an automobile: new in 2009, semi-new in 2010, and old hat by 2011. Against this kind of “that’s so yesterday” perspective, we suggest in this article that ‘new literacies’ are best understood in terms of an historical period of social, cultural, institutional, economic, and intellectual change that is likely to span many decades – some of which are already behind us. We associate new literacies with an historical conjuncture and an ascending social paradigm. From this perspective we suggest that the kinds of practices we currently identify as new literacies will cease to be ‘new’ once the social ways characterizing the ascending paradigm have become sufficiently establised and grounded to be regarded as conventional. Furthermore we suggest that at the heart of the idea of new ethos stuff is the idea of technological change aligning with a range of increasingly popular values. It is too easy to make light of ‘new literacies’ by saying things like: “Well, there are always newer ones coming along”. Bioarte: actuación transhumana y posthumana
For over a century, science fiction has gripped the attention of audiences world-wide, with some of its most successful achievements furnishing the world with utopian and dystopian narratives about the progress of science and the limits of humanity's ability to understand its own complexity and place in the world. However, it is only in the last 30 years that ideas of transhumanism and posthumanism have become part of the intellectual influences of various other art forms that engage with similar subject matter. It is even more recent that posthuman and transhuman scholars have interpreted the work of many pioneering artists and designers as manifestos for their ideas, or as rejections of the possible futures their ideas imply. This is not to say that transhumanist and posthumanist thought is absent from art works that precede this period, but that the explicit link between theories of post-/trans- humanism and such artwork has only recently been made. This article makes explicit the association of certain art forms and art works to trans- and posthumanist ideas, which have become constitutive of the political, cultural and philosophical differences and similarities that exist between these concepts. It discusses a range of art practices with a view to identifying themes within trans- and posthuman art, while also articulating some of the foundational contributions in this field. It begins by advancing a definition of bioart to capture the common ground between transhuman and posthuman art. It then considers interpretations of such works and rejection of their collective definition, by drawing attention to their socio-political and bioethical context. Finally, I consider how one may read bioart from the perspective of transhuman and posthuman thought. Throughout, some of the defining artists in the fields of transhuman and posthuman art are considered.

This issue of the Teknokultura Journal presents a selection of works in the social studies of digital technologies that draw an intellectual scenario in which the simplistic reactions of fear or hope, praise or rejection towards new technologies have been overcome. Critical studies of technology have begun to reach a certain point of maturity, going beyond apocalyptic and integrated stances, and developing certain perspectives that capture many of the complexities of this new techno-reality we are being thrown into. In order to avoid naturalizing the consolidation and integration of technological advances, it is important and urgent to supersede mythological views and naïve interpretations, and to focus our analysis on the historical and contingent relations between all social agents and social fields involved in these processes. In this sense, it is also essential to bear in mind our own responsibility as active social agents – whether individually, collectively or institutionally - in the development of technosocial change.
