    Entre Memorias (Between Memories)

Eudosia is still searching for her husband’s remains in the highlands of Ayacucho, Lucero has been in prison for 25 years now for the crime of terrorism against the Peruvian state, and since 2009 the commandos of the counterinsurgency unit Chavin de Huantar recreate and commemorate their heroic military actions to save a nation from the threat of terrorism. Twelve years after the Peruvian Truth and Reconciliation Commission published its final report about the atrocities committed during the internal armed conflict (1980-2000), memories of this period seem more contested than ever. This film explores the complex legacies of twenty years of violence and war in Peru through practices of remembering. In three audio-visual pieces made in collaboration with relatives of the disappeared, insurgents of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) and members of the Armed Forces, this documentary aims for creating an on-screen dialogue between memories, which in practice remains elusive

    La Ausencia (The Absence)

    No full text
Set to unravel the central yet invisible place of female domestic workers in Chilean culture, this film departs on a journey through time and space, exploring the production and reproduction of family memories through photo albums and the uses of space. Walking across the different rooms of a particular home, La Ausencia aims to unlock the stories fixed in its walls. This micro-expedition raises questions regarding the limits of memory, the sense of place, the uses of photography and the fussiness of kinship, through which it finally conveys the concealed and blurred situation in which domestic workers are usually immersed in Latin America

Heroic virtue is a recurrent theme in poems and panegyrics written for Queen Christina of Sweden, both before and after her abdication. This article focus on the use of heroic virtue in some poems and academic discourses dedicated to Christina, both before and after her conversion to Catholicism, taking a particular interest in its religious implications. The claim for heroicity stands as a political argument during the queen’s time in Sweden and as a programmatic position for her academy in Rome, Accademia Reale, both in its philosophical and poetical activity

Refashioning Italian Theatrical and Dramatic Conventions: Prologues, Epilogues and Inductions in Early Modern English Drama

    Get PDF
Elizabethan drama used a variety of introductory scenes which can be defined as inductions, provided that we distinguish their dramatic and theatrical functions. In the theatre, the induction is a dramatic device, metatheatrical and metadramatic, which emphasizes the nature of the play. Richard Hosley argues that it is “a short dramatic action introducing a full-length play, normally performed by two or more actors and creating a fictional situation different from that of the play itself.” This article contains a survey of such inductions in the English theatre with parallels in the Italian tradition. The article also contains as an appendix a detailed overview of inductions and dumbshows in English plays.

This study explores the use of clinical improvisation with clients either showing symptoms of or having a diagnosis of dementia (related symptoms, e.g. social isolation, depression, disorientation, and cognitive deterioration). Many studies have been completed on the use of music therapy with this population; however few have focused on improvisation. This study is unique in that it explores the experiences of improvisation with a focus on musical analysis and meaning. Through a qualitative study of eight weekly sessions with six different female clients, this investigation aims to offer a rich description of moments of improvised music in relation to characteristics that often deteriorate with dementia. A discussion on the transcendence of certain boundaries of dementia through the natural qualities of mindfulness that exist within a musical experience is provided.

Despite a growing interest in music therapy within child welfare practice, music therapy practices within these contexts are still under-researched in Norway. The present study takes a collaborative community music therapy practice as its point of departure. We interviewed nine social workers aged 30–55 from four different child welfare institutions about their ideas on the advantages and disadvantages of music therapy as an approach to promote mental health and development. Informants’ ideas about the benefits of music therapy circled around four main themes: a) safety and well-being, b) relationships and mastery, c) dealing with complex emotions, and d) continuity and stability, across situations. Findings show that the social workers’ reflections around music therapy correspond with child welfare issues such as trauma-informed care and participation. &nbsp

Are Norwegian Librarians ready to share Library Data to improve Learning?

    No full text
University libraries offer services that generate data about how students and faculty use knowledge sources and engage with teaching and learning. In an era of Big Data there is mounting pressure to use these data, something that challenges the professional ethics of librarians. This paper explores how Norwegian librarians position themselves in relation to the new phenomenon of learning analytics, which would like to process library data to help improve learning and its contexts. A literature review shows that librarians in general are highly sceptical to let any information that is not anonymised out of their hands to be used by other professions. However, library data is increasingly being shared with third parties as part of development of library systems and practices.  In a survey presented in this paper Norwegian librarians were asked about their willingness to take part in analytics and data sharing. The findings show that even if librarians in general do not want to share data that reveals personal information, their resistance will depend on the consent of the students, and to which degree librarians themselves are involved in processing and analysis of the data. This study identifies learning analytics as a field the library community should engage with, and the authors give their advice on what should be focussed to sustain librarians’ professional ethics related to use of library data

The FAIL TO construction: A contrastive perspective

    No full text
This article considers the various senses of the English fail to construction in the light of its Norwegian translation correspondences. This construction has been alleged to be in the process of grammaticalising as a marker of negation in Present-day English. The paper tests the hypothesis that if fail to is in the process of grammaticalising as a marker of negation pure and simple, we should find it used to translate, or find it translated by, pure negation markers (the equivalent of English not) in other languages. The particular language of translation investigated in this paper is Norwegian in which the default negation marker is ikke. It is shown that translations in both directions lend support to the hypothesis
