Sounding Shakespeare: An Interdisciplinary Educational Design Project in English and Music
Get PDFThis article outlines Sounding Shakespeare, an interdisciplinary project in Music and English, carried out with student teachers in Norway. The aims of the project are to explore and develop new ways of working with Shakespeare cross-curricularly through educational design research, focusing on creative and aesthetic processes in order for student teachers to gain experience in working across subjects, and to decrease their fear factor of using Shakespeare in the classroom. The current curriculum changes in Norwegian primary and secondary education (Fagfornyelsen) focus on experimentation, exploration and creative processes, and these are guiding educational principles that also provide a foundation for the Sounding Shakespeare project. Our research into student teachers’ experiences of working with Shakespeare’s texts, constitute the starting point for this article. In the project, students worked in two different workshops with Speech and Music Composition to collaborate and devise a performance based on A Midsummer Night’s Dream as their focus text. Through voice and prosody, students explored the musicality of Shakespeare’s text, and through music composition, students experimented with soundscapes in creative processes. In the final part of the workshops, students collaborated towards performances. Based on our collected data, our main finding shows how music can become a guiding agent for a meaningful experience of literature.  
Copyright and Trademark Crimes in the Nordic Countries: Analysis from the Perspective of the Principle of Legality
Get PDFThe principle of legality limits criminalisation in the Nordic countries. The purpose of the principle is to uphold the legitimacy of the penal authority of the state and to protect the rights of an accused by ensuring the clarity and foreseeability of the criminal law. The Nordic IPR crime provisions are extensive but determining the limits of criminalisation from them is difficult. This article focuses on the on the phrasing and style of the current Nordic copyright and trademark offences and analyses the extent to which these provisions fulfil the requirements of the principle of legality. Particular problem-causing elements in this legislation are multiple internal references and a blanket criminalisation technique combined with inaccurate definitions of objects of protection. Attention is given to three problematic aspects in the fields of copyright and trademark: copyrighted work threshold (teoskynnys/verkshöjd), moral rights, and establishing trademark through use.  
Nodas. Launeddas at the Time of Crisis
No full textDating back to 3000 years ago, Launeddas are a wind instrument from the Nuragic civilisation (Sardinia, 18th century BC/2nd century AD) bearing the marks of contaminations from all over the Mediterranean Sea and beyond. Nearly vanished between the 1960s and 1970s, Launeddas are extraordinarily alive and ever more widespread today. In today’s "time of crisis", they found levels of artistic excellence that just some decades ago looked no longer attainable. This documentary portrays five talents from the new generation of Launeddas players, exploring through their eyes the interstitial spaces between folklore and ethnicity, traditions and experimentation, identity and globalization. At the same time, the film exposes a harsh (but not resigned) aperture on the conditions of an entire generation, in an island such as Sardinia – among the poorest regions in Europe - which struggles with structural socioeconomic problems, whose solutions are still far away
Forfaderskult og opdragelse: Om Meyer Fortes: Oedipus and Job in West African Religion

De væsentlige pointer hos Fortes omfatter en sammenligning af forholdene hos Tallensi (præmoderne) med moderne (postmoderne?) samfunds reproduktionsstrategier og -autoriteter. Diskussionen behandler forfaderskult versus forestillingen om at den enkelte har ansvaret for sin egen skæbne, forestillingen om en god/ond skæbne versus skole/meritokrati, hvilken magt den enkelte har over sin egen skæbne, hvem der har ansvaret for skæbnen: forfædrene og en prænatal skæbne hos Tallensi, eller den enkelte i moderne (postmoderne?) samfund. Artiklen diskutere visse forbehold og afsluttes med at påpege at den traditionelle pædagogiske autoritet er af en sådan karakter, og at den efter alt at dømme er legitim i et slægtskabssamfund, hvilket dog ikke betyder at der ikke kan forekomme misbrug, og heller ikke at den står i direkte opposition til et moderne pædagogisk paradigme. Ser man ikke det, vil man enten beskrive det pædagogiske slægtskabs-paradigme som en tidløs idyl, eksemplarisk også for nutiden, eller som en rent vilkårlig undertrykkelse som under alle omstændigheder bør afskaffes. Det mindste man kan gøre, er at se dette i sin sammenhæng: som en socialt reguleret undertrykkelse som svarer til et slægtskabssamfund
“It’s Not What’s Done, But Why It’s Done”: Music Therapists’ Understanding of Normalisation, Maximisation and the Neurodiversity Movement
No full textThis position paper offers our personal reflections as five music therapists from varying social and international contexts attempting to understand and engage with the theory, politics and implications of the Neurodiversity Movement. We begin by positioning our views on the importance of the therapist’s intentionality when working with individuals for whom this social, cultural and political movement may represent central beliefs and values. The evolution of the Neurodiversity Movement is discussed, growing from the social model of disability and Disability Rights Movements to present a challenge to the dominant, medicalised model of disability. Throughout the paper, we invite critical debate around the role, position and attitude of the music therapist when working with neurodivergent participants, taking the powerful words of Autistic author and activist, Penni Winter, as our provocation. Finally, we offer our interpretation of key concepts and dimensions of this discourse, before sharing examples of how we might apply these understandings to tangible tenets of music therapy practice in different contexts through a series of brief composite case stories. Through critical reflection and discussion, we attempt to draw together the threads of these diverse narratives to challenge a normocentric position, and conclude by posing further questions for the reader and the wider music therapy profession

Missale Nidrosiense 500 år: formidling av et viktig kulturhistorisk dokument
No full textI 2019 feirer vi 500-årsjubileum for Norges eldste, trykte bok; Missale Nidrosiense. Verket eksisterer i flere eksemplarer, og NTNU Gunnerusbiblioteket eier to av dem.
Missale Nidrosiense ble en del av Norges dokumentarv i 2014, hvilket viser dokumentets store kulturhistoriske betydning. Verket ble trykt i 1519 på bestilling av erkebiskop i Nidaros, Erik Valkendorf, fordi erkebiskopen ønsket å sikre en mest mulig enhetlig gudstjenestepraksis i sitt erkebispedømme. Missale Nidrosiense består av to deler; Missalet og Brevariet, der Missalet viser liturgien i gudstjenesten og skal brukes i kirka, mens Breviariet er ment som ei håndbok for presten. Gunnerusbiblioteket er Norges eldste, vitenskapelige bibliotek og våre eksemplarer av Missale har vært en del av våre samlinger siden tidlig 1800-tall.
I vår nettjeneste www.gunnerus.no tilbyr NTNU Universitetsbiblioteket en kontinuerlig voksende mengde digitale dokumenter i form av manuskripter, kart, bilder og eldre trykte bøker. Tjenesten er gratis og åpen for alle IP-adresser – også utenfor Norge. Våre eksemplarer av Missale Nidrosiense er selvsagt digitalt tilgjengelige fra www.gunnerus.no.
I 2019 ønsker vi å løfte fram Missale Nidrosienses kulturhistoriske betydning. Det gjør vi bl.a. gjennom flere planlagte arrangement. Det første arrangementet går av stabelen i Gunnerusbiblioteket 28. januar, som en del av SPOR-festivalen i Trondheim. Da stiller vi ut våre eksemplarer og et foredrag vil knyttes til dokumentene. Det planlegges også en konsert i Nidarosdomen i mars, med Den Norske kirke og biskopen i Nidaros som samarbeidspartner. Høsten 2019 planlegges det ytterligere et arrangement i samarbeid med Det Kongelige norske videnskabers selskab (DKNVS). Verket og nettjenesten blir dessuten promotert gjennom sosiale medier, og i denne forbindelsen skal vi lage en video. Videoen vil bli liggende på NTNU UB’s Youtube-kanal, men vi vil også støtte oss på Facebook og Instagram.
På VIRAK-konferansen ønsker vi å vise denne videoen som formidler den kulturhistoriske konteksten rundt Missale Nidrosiense og hvordan Gunnerusbiblioteket markedsfører og tilgjengeliggjør dette viktige dokumentet i dag.

Breeding population increase and range expansion of the Great Crested Grebe Podiceps cristatus in southeastern Norway
Get PDFThe Great Crested Grebe Podiceps cristatus is listed as near-threatened on the Norwegian red list due to small population size, estimated in 2015 at 220–380 pairs. Population size is considered to be stable. Approximately one quarter of the population (50–100 pairs) is thought to occur in Oslo and Akershus, but this estimate is not based on detailed data, and the only previous systematic estimate was 90–100 pairs in 13 sites in 1982. In 2018, I conducted a comprehensive survey of all known and potential breeding sites to assess current population size in Oslo and Akershus. I recorded 233 pairs in 34 sites, suggesting a large increase in population size. To analyse the population increase in more detail, I collected all known records of Great Crested Grebes during the breeding season for the period 1995–2018. Analyses confirmed that there has been a strong increase, at a yearly rate of 4.2%. The increase was both due to increases in already established populations (69% of total increase), and establishment of new sites (31%). New sites were colonised in particular the last 10–15 years, and new sites were located gradually further away from the sites that were already used in 1982, indicating continuous range expansion. New sites were also located in smaller, less nutrient-rich lakes at higher elevations, perhaps indicating occupation of lower quality sites that could limit further population increase. Similar population increases have also occurred in other parts of the distribution range of Great Crested Grebes in Norway, and I present a new population size estimate for Norway at 531–634 pairs. Hence, the species no longer qualifies for red listing, and one may consider to downlist the species to least concern.
