Зауважено, що важливу роль у популяризації художньої літератури митців екзилу відіграє електронна бібліотека Інституту журналістики і масової комунікації Класичного приватного університету (Запоріжжя) (diasporiana.org.ua.). Завдячуючи їй, український читач має можливість познайомитися зі збіркою оповідань письменниці Докії Гуменної «Внуки столітнього запорожця», у якій розповідається про життя земляків-вигнанців у США.
У своїй книзі письменниця наголосила на проблемі збереження національної ідентичності людей в еміграції. Зокрема, пригодницька новела «Внуки столітнього запорожця» переконує в тому, що той народ, який мав славне козацьке минуле, не може бути позбавлений держави. Оповідаючи про долю отамана Якова Шепеля, котрий виборював право України на державність на початку ХХ ст., Д. Гуменна робить наголос на тому, що любов до рідної землі, захист її свободи виплекало в героя його оточення – предки-козаки. Ідеї героя успадкували українці з діаспори. У такий спосіб авторка стверджує, що національний генетичний код не руйнує розрив з батьківщиною, його нищить байдужість до долі своєї землі.(en) In the article the problem of studying Ukrainian diasporic literature is raised; problematic and thematic peculiarities of Dokia Humenna’s short stories collection «Grandchildren of hundred-year-old Zaporozhian» are stated; story «Grandchildren of hundred-year-old Zaporozian» is analyzed in details.
It is noted, that an electronic library of the Institute of Journalism and Mass Communication of Classic Private University (Zaporozhye), which operates in partnership with the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (diasporiana.org.ua.) plays an important role in promoting exile literature. Thanks to it, Ukrainian reader has the opportunit y to be introduced to a collection of short stories by Dokia Humenna «Grandchildren of hundred-year-old Zaporozhian», which tells about the life of fellow countrymen in exile in the US.
In this collection D. Humenna raises the question of being, relevant to immigrants: accommodation to the strange world, human stoicism in difficult situations, continuity of national traditions and so on. The problem of preserving the national identity of people in exile is permeating for all the works of the book. An adventure short story «Grandchildren of hundred-year-old Zaporozhian», for example, convinces the reader that the people, who had the glorious Cossack past, can not be deprived of state. The plot of the work is artistic-publicistic story about the events of the civil war of 1920s, the fate of chieftain Jakiv Shepel, who fought for Ukraine' s right for statehood. Depicting the image of this chieftain, D. Humenna emphasizes that the love of his native land, the protection of its freedom were swaddled by his environment - the ancestors Cossacks.
The story of Jakiv Shepel is embroidered by Ukrainian immigrants’ ref lections about him and inglorious fate of the motherland. Fellow countrymen in exile images characteristic proves that national genetic code is not destroyed by breaking off with the motherland, it is destroyed by indifference to the fate of their land

The psychology of character in the creative work of V. Vynnychenko and M. Khvylovyi
No full text(uk) Стаття присвячена творчості українських митців Володимира Винниченка і Миколи Хвильового, людей, що відіграли важливу роль у процесі українського державотворення 20-х років минулого століття.
Проза письменників стала правдивим відображенням і осмисленням нового стану людини на тлі кризового часу. Предметом художнього дослідження в статті стали повість М. Хвильового «Сентиментальна історія» і новела В. Винниченка «Момент», присвячені «вічній» темі кохання. Важливий аспект роботи складає аналіз поетики характеротворення. Митці, вивчаючи жіночі характери, виявляють посилений інтерес до підсвідомих ірраціональних процесів психології героїнь. Кохання у Винниченка позбавлене будь-якої еротики, найважливішим виявляється духовне злиття героїв, події розгортаються на фоні екзистенційної ситуації, коли двоє закоханих перебувають на межі життя і смерті, коли драматизм сюжетних ситуацій значно посилюється. Менш драматичним постає сюжет повісті М. Хвильового «Сентиментальна історія», однак психічні стани його героїні в основному представлені негативними емоціями, радість життя, яка наповнювала її душу, невдовзі була втрачена. Твори обох письменників глибоко психологічні, їхній аналіз дозволяє говорити про систему специфічних авторських прийомів і засобів психологічного зображення.(en) This article covers the works of Ukrainian writers, Volodymyr Vynnychenko and Mykola Khvyliovyi, persons, who made a great contribution to the development of Ukrainian state in the twenties of the last century. Their prose has become a true ref lection and understanding of the new human status against the backdrop of crisis. The subject of artistic research in the article were the novel «Sent ymentalna Istoriia» («The Sentimental Story») of M. Khvyliovyi and the novella «Moment» («The moment») of V. Vynnychenko, which are addressed to the «eternal» theme of love. The important aspect of our research is to analyze the poetics of character creation. When studying female characters, the writers evince great interest in the irrational unconscious processes of the woman psychology. Love in Vynnychenko’s works is devoid of any erotic, the most important thing is the spiritual fusion of characters, events unfold against the backdrop of existential situation, the two lovers are on the brink of life and death, dramatics of narrative situations deepens greatly. Less dramatic story appears in the novel of M. Khvyliovyi «Sent ymentalna Istoriia», but mental states of his heroine are represented mainly by negative emotions, the joy of life that filled her soul soon was lost. The works of both writers are deeply psychological; their analysis suggests the system of specific techniques and means of psychological representation by each author. Their prose became a truthful reflection and comprehension of the new state of man. No full text(uk) Очі є одним із найінформативніших портретних знаків, завдяки якому читач більше дізнається про персонажа. Інколи – це фундамент, основа враження про людину, бо колір очей, їхній вираз і погляд відображають і швидкоплинні емоції, і більш сталі характеристики особистості – її характер та почуття. Стаття є спробою розглянути образ очей в оповіданні Винниченка «Студент» як джерело семіотичної інтерпретації, з’ясувати рівень знаковості образу у художній структурі твору, його роль у творенні портретів героїв, реалізації художньої ідеї. Це знакова портретна деталь, у якій Винниченко закодовує духовний світ людини буремної доби, розкриває не стільки психологію героя, скільки психологію моменту, емоцій, інстинктів та імпульсів у вирішальну мить його життя.(en) The main peculiarities of a portrait in a literary work can be defined such a way: it is the representation of external in a man and that internal which appear outside and get to be apparent, perceptible. A portrait gives an image-character concrete nature, visual perceptibility, gives a reader an opportunity to imagine a character of a literary work, perceive a character as a live, real person. The description of character’s appearance forms a visual image in the reader’s consciousness.
Certainly, an image of a character is not only the character’s status, colour of eyes, and length of hair. I t is the form of character’s thoughts, feelings, interests, assessment, life experience – a portrait of a person. And «the mirror of soul », and that ancient truth is still topicality, is eyes. They are one of the most informative portrait signs, and because of them a reader knows more about a character. Sometimes they are a foundation, a base of impression about a man, because a colour of eyes, their expression, and look reflect both fleeting (passing) emotions, and more constant personal characteristics – character and feelings.
A portrait characteristic can determine a compound multilevel system of associated components – things, gestures, colours, – from the smallest detail to the complex of features. But an artistic form doesn’t always let extended, detailed descriptions, and this is the specific of character creation in the genres of short prose comparatively with the genres of novels.
So, the base of a poetic portrait can be an accent of onl y one detail or a focus on a few details – but the details are not random, the details that create a character, give an impulse for creation of a self-sufficient and complete image of a character.
Eyes are an expressively accented portrait detail in the short story «Student» by Volodymyr Vynnychenko. The especial semiotic status of expression of eyes or looks of characters is obvious, because eyes are one of the most generally used images in the art canvas of a literary work.
This paper is attempt to consider the image of eyes in the short story «Student» by Vynnychenko as a source of semiotic interpretation, find out the sign level of an image in the art structure of a literary work, its role in creation of character portraits, realization of artistic idea. I t is a significant portrait detail in which Vynnychenko codes the inner world of a man of the tempestuous epoch, and opens rather the psychology of a moment, emotions, instincts, and impulses in the crucial point of character’s life, than the psychology of a character

No full text(uk) У статті розглядаються особливості організації часопросторовихзв’язків в оповіданні В. К. Винниченка «Темна сила» та їхнє значення для розуміння ідейного змісту твору. У формуванні цілісного уявлення про творчість письменника важливим є вивчення створеного ним хронотопу, адже організація часопростору впливає на ідейно-художню специфіку тексту. На межі світу автора і реальності утворюється художній простір оповідання, що є виразом світовідчуття письменника. Хронотоп – це особливе поєднання та взаємозв’язок просторових і часових характеристик у літературному творі. Час ніби переходить у простір, поєднуючись, вони створюють своєрідний фундамент розвитку подальших подій. Художній простір в оповіданні «Темна сила» не лише фон, на якому розгортається дія, він визначає поведінку та вчинки героїв. Отже, зовнішній простір впливає на внутрішній простір героїв, тобто на їх свідомість.Особливості організації часопростору у В. К. Винниченка пов’язані з кольором як емоційно-експресивним засобом художньої конкретизації. Особливо частотним є сірий, що відбиває внутрішній душевний стан героїв. Смислового акценту набуває така деталь хронотопу як вікно. У контексті твору вікно для героїв – це символ надії, можливість розширити зовнішній простір та зв’язатися з ним. Художній простір оповідання підпорядкований авторській ідеї відтворити реалістичний час і пояснити почуття, рефлексії героїв. Час і простір формують образ світу, представлений у творі.(en) The peculiarities of the time-space links in the story «Темна сила» / «Dark Force» by Volodymyr Vynnychenko and their importance for the understanding of the ideological content of the story are in the focus of the proposed paper.
To form the overall picture of the writer’s creativity it is essential to study the chronotope developed by the author, for, the organization of the time-space affects the ideological land artistic specificy of the text. Chronotope is a particular combination and correlation of the spatial and temporal characteristics of a literary work. Time goes into space, and when combined, they create a kind of a basis of future events development. At the turn of the author’s world and the reality, the created art space of the story is an expression of the writer’s perception of the world.
The art space in the story «Dark Force» is not only the background against which the story unfolds, but it determines the behavior and actions of the characters. Thus, the external space affects the internal space of the characters, their minds, in particular.
The features of the time-space organization in V. K. Vynnychenko story are associated with color as an emotionally expressive tool of artistic facet. I n particular frequency is gray, which reflects the inner side of the characters.
Therefore, such time-space detail as window acquires its semantic accent. I n the context of the story window for heroes becomes a symbol of hope and opportunity to expand and contact the external space. The art space of the story subordinates to the author' s idea to replicate realistic time in order to explain the feelings and reflections of the characters. Consequently, time and space form the image of the world presented in the book
