A Study of Foreign Language Learners at a University: Focused on the Case from A University in Nagasaki Prefecture
This study is based on the questionnaire from two groups of Japanese students at A University located in Nagasaki Prefecture who study Korean language; 23 students who are starting in 2022(pre-group) and 27 students who are currently studying in Korea(during-group). Both groups of students prefer studying with media such as K-movies or K-dramas. While pre-group prefers taking Korean classes for additional input, during-group learns by communicating with Koreans as much as visual materials. However, during-group replied they have the most communication with Japanese instead of Koreans, and this problem seems to be caused by the fact that several students are sent to one university. Due to solve this problem, A University has increased the number of sister universities from 12 to 18 and allows up to two people for each one.departmental bulletin pape
The Visions of Xerxes in Book VII of the Histories of Herodotus: A comparative analysis of 19th, 20th and 21st Century translations of some excerpts of Herodotus
The Histories of Herodotus, written over two thousand five hundred years ago, continues to fascinate and entertain the scholar and casual reader alike. This essay, after a brief overview of attitudes toward Herodotus and his work in antiquity, will conduct a comparative textual analysis of selected excerpts from Book VII of the Histories to ascertain the level of cultural interference of each generation of translator.
The essay concludes with a summary of observations and caveats resulting from the analysis and suggestions as to how future translations of the Histories might look.

Instructions and Support for Learners of Japanese with Autism Spectrum Disorder: Analysis Based on Language Competence, Language Performance, and Affective Factors
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopment disorder, characterized by qualitative deficits in social interaction and communication ability. Its primary symptoms are restricted and repetitive behavior. In the fields of Japanese language education and special education, not much research has been conducted on how the characteristics of ASD affect learning of Japanese for those with ASD. In this study, these characteristics have been considered from three viewpoints: “language competence,” “language performance,” and “affective factors.” This made it possible to distinctively understand those who are learning the Japanese language and simultaneously dealing with ASD. The results showed that instructions and support are indispensable not only for “language competence” but also for “language performance” and “affective factors.” Taking care of these aspects can make instructions and support more comprehensive and effective.departmental bulletin pape
【Reports on classroom activities】 A Foundation Research of DX and SDGs at Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies prospecting Society 5.0
In recent years, the accelerating development of information technology has given rise to new phrases such as "Society 5.0" or "digital transformation" (DX). In order for us to make better use of these concepts in our education and also to avoid the risk of misleading students, NUFS must engage with these new concepts as NUFS is an institution that seeks to cultivate global human resources through multilingual, multicultural, and multinational perspectives. This report is a collection of insights from multiple staff members at NUFS who utilized their own areas of expertise to analyze the results of their educational approach to foreign language education. This collaborative report also examined the efficacy of maintaining both local and international affiliations, and partnership programs with high schools, with a focus on the development of forward-thinking educational platforms.research repor
