Conformism was studied among 46 workers with different kinds of occupations by means of two modified scales measuring conformity by Santor, Messervey, and Kusumakar (2000) – scale for perceived peer pressure and scale for conformism in antisocial situations. The hypothesis of the study that workers’ conformism is expressed in a medium degree was confirmed partly. More than a half of the workers conform in a medium degree for taking risk, and for the use of alcohol and drugs, and for sexual relationships. More than a half of the respondents conform in a small degree for anti-social activities (like a theft). The workers were more inclined to conform for risk taking (10.9%), then – for the use of alcohol, drugs and for sexual relationships (8.7%), and in the lowest degree – for anti-social activities (6.5%). The workers who were inclined for the use of alcohol and drugs tended also to conform for anti-social activities.Language: Bulgaria

Comparative analysis of the current status, own body perception and positive experience within a period of up to 1 year from diagnosing of women with breast cancer (N = 41; mean age 35.25) in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd stages of the disease progress, of Bulgarian origin, was made. Reliability and validity of the scales were described. They were analysed with respect to: 1) medical characteristics (partial or total surgery, surgical removal of lymph nodes, presence or absence of metastases in them), 2) classical therapies (chemotherapy, radiation therapy and hormonal therapy) administered or not and 3) application or not of alternative therapies (herbal medicine, physical load, administration of massage, lymph drainage, use of nutritional supplements, observance of diet). The results showed that the more therapies the persons surveyed were undergone the more unsatisfactory they assessed their current general status. The bigger the size of the surgery performed to remove the tumour the more positive idea of their own bodies they had. The more time after the surgical treatment passed the more the positive experience accumulated from the oncologic diagnosis grew. Language: Bulgaria

Youth Conformity Regarding Institutions and Media

    Get PDF
An experiment on conformity was carried out. The participants were 95 youths. The scale “Conformity – Autonomy” from I. Karagiozov’s questionnaire for locus of control (1998) was also used. The results indicated the prevalence of youth conformity regarding institutions and media. The different types of conformity were related to each other. The subjects’ gender and the experimentators’ gender mediated the connections between the both types of conformity. The female youths conformed more with institutions than the male youths, but there were not any significant gender differences in their conform behavior regarding media (magazines). More male youths conformed for the magazines when the experimentator was a woman. More female youths conformed for the magazines when the experimentator was a man. Language: Bulgaria

Working With Individuals on the Autistic Spectrum Disorder: Training and Support for Staff Practitioners

    Get PDF
Background: Individuals with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) often need very specialized and individualized care provision in order to address some of the challenges and vulnerabilities they experience (Berkell-Zaker, 1999). Specialized and highly trained staff practitioners should not only be knowledgeable about autism in general and its related areas of impairments (Wing Gould, 1979), but they should be adequately equipped to deal with often challenging situations that can easily lead to emotional and physical exhaustion. Key Points: This paper proposes a conceptual framework to positively support staff practitioners who work with clients on the ASDs, highlighting the following key areas: Knowledge and Applied Understanding of ASD, Ecological Awareness, Positive Behaviour Support, Low-Arousal Approaches, Role of Role-Plays, Role of Debriefing and Emotional Regulation. Through discussion of the conceptual framework suggestions are made to promote best practice in the positive management of training and support for staff practitioners working with individuals with ASDs. Language: Englis

    Get PDF
Analysis of quality of attachment of women with breast cancer within 1 year after initial diagnosing and subsequent treatment was performed in the article by means of the Measure of Attachment Qualities (MAQ) scale (Carver, 1997). 41 women of Bulgarian origin at an average age of 35.25 years (at least 18 and 69 at the most) in stage I, II and III of the disease progress were studied. For the specific sample, the reliability of 4 scales (secure, avoidant, ambivalent-worried and ambivalent-merging attachment) was presented. The quality of attachment was analysed by: 1) medical characteristics (partial or total surgery, surgical removal of lymph nodes, presence or absence of metastases in them), 2) classical therapies (chemotherapy, radiation therapy and hormonal therapy) administered or not and 3) application or not of alternative therapies (herbal medicine, physical load, administration of massage, lymph drainage, use of nutritional supplements, observance of diet). Language: Bulgaria
