This paper will detail the development of The Creativity and Humility Guidebook, which will be used to provide a thorough overview of both creativity and humility to the Roberts Wesleyan University community in order to equip faculty and staff with a fuller understanding of the symbiotic relationship between the two. Due to the turbulent climate of higher education in today’s world, coupled with the countless social, economic, and political issues that plague society, a guidebook that focuses on increasing a university’s creativity through humility comes at a pivotal time in which the clear benefits of creativity training are crucial for success

As teachers, it is our job to give every student a chance and bringing this topic to the surface will raise awareness and hopefully involvement. When the awareness is recognized, programs and policies can be implemented to help students who are struggling
Myrmecochorous plants and their ant seed dispersers through successional stages in temperate cove forests
No full textAnthropogenic disturbance can decrease woodland diversity in the species-rich herbaceous layer of eastern deciduous forests, and ant-dispersed (myrmecochorous) plants may be particularly affected due to their limited ability to re-colonize secondary forests. Consequently, we predicted that myrmecochorous plants and their keystone seed-dispersing ants would increase with time since last disturbance, as reflected by young, middle or mature forest successional stage. Specifically, we hypothesized that myrmecochore abundance and richness would be relatively lowest in the youngest forests, moderate in middle-aged forests and highest in mature forests. We also hypothesized that experimentally introducing ant bait in a regular pattern, as might be expected from intact species-rich myrmecochore communities, would elicit greater ant foraging interest than intermittent baiting, as might be expected in recently disturbed depauperate myrmecochore communities. We found the highest myrmecochore plant abundance in mature forests, but we found the same for herbaceous plants overall. Moreover, regular and intermittent bait offerings elicited similar overall ant responses. The observational results suggested that myrmecochorous plants respond to forest successional stage as do other woodland plants, and our experimental results suggest that disrupted seed delivery by myrmecochores did not affect Aphaenogaster abundance or foraging behavior. As such, the myrmecochore communities studied here appeared as resilient as other woodland herbs, and seed-dispersing ants did not appear dependent on myrmecochore plant communities. Indeed, given the relatively high myrmecochore richness and abundance across our study sites, forest type (e.g., rich cove forest) might better predict myrmecochore success than successional stage

Cluttering is a complex disorder of speech characterized by a rapid and irregular speaking rate, excessive disfluencies, abnormal pauses, and poor language organization. In the present study, five adult men diagnosed with cluttering were interviewed to obtain their perspectives on three alternative models for treating cluttering: 1) a traditional (“medical”) model; 2) a social model, derived from the disability rights literature; and 3) an individual differences model, derived from the psychology of individual differences literature. Perceived strengths and limitations were obtained for each model and emergent themes were captured using qualitative analysis procedures. Results suggested that both the traditional model and the individual differences model were judged favorably by all participants. The social model was received less favorably. The results of this study offer a unique perspective from the individual who clutters that can inform therapy practices to better reflect client values

The fact that the government has the ability to fund areas in need and contribute to communities is great. What needs to be monitored is the funding utilization and areas of specific impact. This will allow for the demographic data to be collected and with the right people in place ensure a balance of services provided. This ongoing research will contribute directly to the city of Buffalo and communities surrounding Buffalo State
Writing Instruction in the Middle Grades: A Cross-Cultural Inquiry of Teacher Perceptions and Practices in South Korea and the United States
Get PDFDespite its importance in promoting student academic achievement and career development, writing pedagogy has received little emphasis in research and professional development efforts. The purpose of this study was to examine teacher perceptions and practices of writing in the middle grades from a cross-cultural perspective. 16 middle-grade teachers from South Korea and one state within the United States were recruited for a semi-structured interview. Transcripts of the interview responses were analyzed, using a constant comparison method. The findings showed that teachers’ instructional practices in writing were contextualized with their personal and professional knowledge and experiences. Country specific patterns were found in teacher perceptions of best practices in writing instruction while cross-cultural patterns were observed in the ways that teachers differentiated instruction for struggling writers and motivated them to write
