Differentiated Instruction for Students with Special Needs: “How can we better equip students, school systems, and society for differentiated instruction for students with special needs in Career and Technical Educational environments?”
Career and Technical Education (CTE) plays a vital role in preparing students for the demands of the modern workforce by providing essential knowledge, technical skills, and industry-recognized certifications. As the number of students with disabilities, including neurodivergent learners, continues to rise, CTE programs face increasing pressure to adopt innovative, inclusive educational practices. Integrating creative teaching strategies and leveraging technology are now critical tools in addressing diverse learning needs that promote effective classroom management and enhance student engagement. Moreover, CTE programs emphasize the development of professional competencies, workforce protocols, and transferable skills that strengthen students’ employability across industries. This paper examines the intersection of CTE, creative instructional design, and inclusive education practices, advocating for expanded research and continuous innovation to ensure equitable outcomes for all students
Deliberate Practice Disguised as Play
The purpose of this project was to create a digital version of a manual exercise I designed to develop the divergent and convergent thinking skills that recognize analogous qualities that lead to creative solutions. The primary focus of the project was to build and test the functionality of the digital version of the exercise. The goal of the digital version is to provide undergraduate graphic design students with creative skill building practice sessions in the format of a video game. This digital version will allow students to conduct practice sessions at their convenience. It is the intent that the video game format provides a stealth learning environment that is seen as a source of fun and entertainment. Four sessions of five undergraduate students playtested a paper prototype of the game over two days. Although the capabilities of the prototype were limited, the students demonstrated an understanding of the game’s objectives and provided encouraging feedback
Psychological Safety Creating A Growing Successful Team
In an ever-changing world that we live and work in it is very crucial that one feels safe. Safe to make mistakes, share ideas, collaborate without the fear of consequences or any punitive action. This project explores the role of psychological safety in professional environments. This project examines the foundation, impact, and strategies of psychological safety. The project also includes an extensive literature review on the matter of psychological safety, on top of providing the audience with practical tools that one can use to make their organization more psychologically safe. The practical tools being a professional development (PD) and a Leadership Advent Calendar
Exploring Culturally Informed Approaches to Book Read-Aloud with Young Children
Early childhood is a critical period for language and literacy development. One-way adults introduce children to the world of books is through picture books read-aloud. Adults from different cultural background engage in this activity differently, and to date, the early childhood field has emphasized a constructivist approach to book reading typical in individualistic cultures. Other approaches to reading books that are common in collectivist cultures have not been explored. The present study investigated the reading styles teachers (n = 40) use in naturalistic settings and compared the advantages of using individualistic versus collectivist styles related to children participation and enjoyment during book reading. The results have implications for incorporating culturally reflective approached when reading books to young children

Impacts of German yellowjacket (Vespula germanica) removal on pollinator communities in Western New York
Invasive social insects can restructure native arthropod communities through predation and competition. Vespula germanica (German yellowjacket) is a globally invasive wasp species that dominates vespid assemblages across urban and suburban landscapes. This study tested the hypothesis that reducing V. germanica using protein-based fipronil baits would increase native pollinator abundance, species richness and native vespid abundance. Vespula germanica was experimentally suppressed at suburban and urban sites. Pollinator abundance and richness increased with V. germanica baiting. Native vespids had mixed results from baiting with suburban sites increasing in overall abundance and urban sites decreasing. These results indicate that suppressing dominant invasive wasps can facilitate native arthropod resurgence but also reveal context-dependent outcomes influenced by land use. Overall, this study underscores the complex and often mixed ecological consequences of invasive social insect management in human-influenced landscapes
Perceptions of AI Chatbots in Music Education
Recent advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly generative AI chatbots like the Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (ChatGPT), have impacted education, yet their specific implications for music education remain underexplored. This study explores general music educators’ perceptions of information provided by ChatGPT, focusing on their ability to distinguish AI-generated content, its perceived accuracy, and the perceived influence of professional experience. A qualitative multiple case methodology including six general music educators located in the state of New York was utilized. Participants were purposively sampled to ensure maximum variation in age, gender, service years, and teaching levels. During interviews, they were asked to evaluate and compare two ChatGPT-generated answers and one human-generated answer from the New York State Teacher Certification Examinations (NYSTCE) on a music-related question, without prior knowledge of the source. Thematic analysis of the interview transcripts revealed an overall positive sentiment towards both AI and human-generated outputs. However, the human-generated answers were consistently described more favorably, primarily due to their inclusion of a “citation”, bolstering the perceived accuracy and trustworthiness by participants. Participants largely distinguished AI outputs by stylistic patterns such as “run-on” sentences, lack of citation, and perceived “vagueness.” More experienced educators (5+ service years) often relied on their extensive personal knowledge to assess authenticity, while newer educators (1-4 service years) placed greater emphasis on the presence of cited sources for determining accuracy. Despite concerns about AI fabricated data and potential bias, ChatGPT was valued as a time saver and reliable tool for daily tasks, information gathering as a good starting point, for idea creation and for lesson planning. The findings indicate that while ChatGPT offers practical utility as an informational resource for music educators, its perceived accuracy and trustworthiness may be heavily influenced by different factors. These factors being the presence, or lack thereof, of verifiable sources for newer educators or the use of personal knowledge and experience by more seasoned educators. This highlights a critical area for future AI development in specialized fields such as general music education
