Cross-Sectional Analysis of Methods of Computing Partial Correlation Coefficients: A Self-Explained Note With R Syntax
Get PDFThis paper examines four different methods of computing partial correlation coefficients. These include conventional method, variance-covariance matrix approach, regression residual’s approach, and OLS method. Each of these is fully illustrated with practical examples as well as R syntax. Applicability of each of the methods is discussed in our illustrations. Strength and weakness of each method are extensively detailed. It’s, however, discovered that none of the basic assumptions of partial correlation: linearity, normality, and non-existence of outliers is violated after performing statistical checks on the datasets used. The study, therefore, recommends the best method(s) of computing partial correlation coefficients when at least one variable is held constant, thereby adding more invaluable knowledge to the existing literatures. Finally, the study further recommends the best method in each scenario with illustrative examples as evidences.
Exploring Students’ Intercultural Communicative Competence Cultivation in Junior High School English Teaching
Get PDFThe study intended to investigate the current situation of junior high school students’ intercultural communicative competence and explore some factors impacting the cultivation of students’ intercultural communicative competence in English teaching. The study analyzed three factors impacting students’ intercultural communicative competence: language barriers, devoid of intercultural communicative knowledge and ethnocentrism. Accordingly the study proposed some strategies to enhance the cultivation of students’ intercultural communicative competence: firstly, teachers should design more intercultural background knowledge in English teaching. Secondly, students should actively participate in intercultural communicative communication and continuously enhance their intercultural communicative awareness; thirdly, schools should provide intercultural training for teachers to improve their intercultural communication literacy
Academic Significance and Contemporary Value of Comparative Study on the Reform of China, Japan and Choson Dynasty in the Late 19th Century

China, Japan and Choson Dynasty, as representatives among those countries, had adopted corresponding reform measures. Among them, the Chinese Westernization Movement and the Japanese Meiji Restoration have been much examined in terms of historical facts, but the analysis of Eo Yun-jung reform of Choson Dynasty and the comparison of the reforms of China, Japan and Choson Dynasty in the late 19th century is slightly insufficient. Thus this paper attempts to make a preliminary interpretation of the academic significance and contemporary value of those reforms through the review of academic history and the theoretical discussions, looking forward to arousing more attention and leading more profound researches on this topic
A Study on the Translation Methods of Medical Terms in Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol for COVID-19 (Trial Version 7)
Get PDFThis paper aims to figure out the translation methods of the terms used in Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol for COVID-19 (Trial Version 7). By comparing the Chinese and English versions of the officially published article and probing into the translation of some mentioned term names, the translation methods of these terms in Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol for COVID-19 (Trial Version 7) are divided into three types, a) transliteration; b) free translation; c) combination of literal translation and free translation. It could be found that the combined utilization of these three translation methods makes terms more understandable for foreigners who are interested in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), especially during the period of COVID-19 epidemic. The result suggests that more efforts should be put into the field of TCM translation and expanding the international influence of TCM.
A Classroom Practice for Reader’s Theater: Based on the Story Behind Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree

This article gives a brief introduction about the theory of Reader’s Theater and presents a classroom practice which covers the whole process of the activity. The purpose of the practice is to enhance the overall and integrated language ability for the students (with speaking ability in particular), as well as their interest in English learning and the engagement in the classroom. The teacher accumulates some practical experience as how to put the theory into practice. It is hoped that the practice conducted will do some help to other fellow teachers who are trying to apply Reader’s Theater in their own classroom

Firstly, this paper defines livestreaming and influencers. Then, from literature review, we developed the conceptual framework which proposes the following propositions: atmosphere and presentation skills are positively related to product brief; product belief is positively related to consumer choice, consumer trust and consumer identity; consumer identity, consumer trust are positively related to consumer satisfaction; sales promotion is positively related to consumer satisfaction but negatively related to consumer trust. Get PDFBased on the theory of interpersonal function in systematic functional linguistics, this study will explore the literary significance of the play The Importance of Being Earnest from the perspectives of mood, modality and appraisal system. Mrs. Bracknell’s dialogue will be chosen as the corpus, and qualitative and quantitative research methods will be used to analyze the speech characteristics of the protagonists in the dialogue. This paper will explore the role and influence of dialogic language on the construction of character characteristics and interpersonal relationships, and will, hopefully, help to prove the feasibility of using systemic functional linguistics to interpret literary works.
Political Thuggery as a Blight to Nation Building and Democracy in Nigeria: Appraising the Role of Drama and Playwright
Get PDFPolitical thuggery is a form of social violence that has posed a lot of problems to Nigeria. The problem is so much that it threatens the socio-economic and political fabric of the Nigerian society. Thugs are often used, especially during election periods, to intimidate, harass and in some cases kill political opponents. This paper critically examines the underlying factors responsible for thuggery as impediment to nation building and sustainable democratic system. The study is anchored on Frustration – Aggression Theory (FAT). The theory was propounded in an attempt to explain the occurrence of violence and crimes in a society. In their view, human beings have needs, ambitions, or expectations in life that are arranged in their order of priority. The paper revealed that unemployment, inadequate political education, poverty (among the citizenry) and inordinate ambition among the political elites are some of the factors responsible for political thuggery. The paper appraises the content of Alex Asigbo’s The Reign of Pascal Amusu and Tor Iorapuu’s April 1421 adopting the qualitative research methodology. The findings reveal that playwrights and dramatic works have beamed their searchlights on the issues of thuggery as a bane to nation building and sustainable democracy. To this end, the paper concludes that a synergy of efforts by all stake holders in the society can curb the trend if not out rightly eliminating it and recommends among others that both government and non-governmental organization should work hand in hand to provide employment opportunity for the citizens towards peaceful society and sustainable nation building.
Worrying Political Democracy in 2024 National Elections on the Behavior of Election Managers
Get PDFElection organizers in Indonesia’s general elections are often accused of being an obstacle to the growth of democracy. The position of election administrators is a very serious problem for the growth of Indonesian democracy. The reason is very simple: Indonesia’s democracy failed during the New Order era which was supported by election administrators. The New Order was an opaque democracy for Indonesia’s democracy because election administrators were inseparable from the authoritarian regime. Even in the early days of reform, election management was very disappointing and became a source of new problems. When the election organizers namely the General Election Commission - KPU (Komisi Pemilihan Umum) were asked to supervise their work by establishing the Election Supervisory Body – Bawaslu (Badan Pengawas Pemilihan Umum) in 2008 it was real evidence of poor performance that. The emergence of the third election organizing body, namely the Honorary Election Organizing Council - DKPP (Dewan Kehormatan Penyelenggara Pemilihan Umum) is a sign that election administrators behave badly in building a dignified election process. The big concern is the difficulty of holding dignified general elections in the 2024 national simultaneous elections.
