New Exploration of Teachers’ Professional Development in Open Universities From the Perspective of Artificial Intelligence
Get PDFOpen universities belong to a new kind of colleges and universities dedicated to lifelong education. Teachers’ professional development not only plays a vital role in high-quality development of open universities, but also inevitably has special logics different from other ordinary colleges and universities. Extensive application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of higher education provides a brand-new perspective and mindset for revealing such special logics. It is necessary to take into account the status quo of teachers’ professional development in open universities, focus on in-depth integration of AI and education, and come up with scientific paths for practice in teachers’ professional development in open universities
Talisman or Curse: Cultural Distortion in Horror Narrative of “The Monkey’s Paw”
Get PDFIn the famous horror short story “The Monkey’s Paw” (1902) by British author William Wymark Jacobs, the monkey’s paw, a talisman from colonial India, is given a sinister and bizarre cultural connotation and becomes a “curse” for the Whites. Drawing on concepts related to postcolonial studies, this dissertation focuses on the social and cultural symbolism of the Monkey’s Paw in the story, comparing its connotation in Indian culture with the connotation in the Oriental imagination by Jacobs. It analyzes how Jacobs uses the horror narrative to distort Indian culture, thereby revealing the dominant discourse of imperialist cultural hegemony over the East in British literature
English Translation and Communication of Dialogues in Paradise
Get PDFAs a representative of “Avant-garde” novelist, Can Xue is unique in contemporary Chinese literature with her alternative writing style. Most of her works have been translated into English and achieved a quite remarkable literary status in English-speaking countries. Taking Can Xue’s first English translation of Dialogues in Paradise as a case study, this paper analyzes the evaluation and manipulation of five elements (the translation subject, content, channel, audience and effect) in the translation process, and points out that the English translation and communication of Dialogues in Paradise is of significance to the “going out” of Chinese literary works: the translation content that is in line with Western literary aesthetics, by way of co-translation between Chinese and Western translators, is transmitted to the translation audience through western channels, so as to promote the “going out” of the Chinese literature.
Metonymy in Visual Images of Anti-Pollution Advertisements
Get PDFSince Forceville (2007, 2008, 2009) proposed the notion of multimodal metaphor, visual metaphors in advertisements have been extensively documented. However, research on visual metonymies remains relatively rare. We focused on visual metonymies in 100 anti-pollution advertisements, finding that PATIENT FOR EVENT is the most used in such kinds of advertisements. Effects more readily serve as metonymic vehicles than causes, but CAUSE FOR EFFECT metonymy and EFFECT FOR CAUSE metonymy always appear at the same time
Leviers pour l’amélioration de la production orale des apprenants chinois de français
Get PDFLes apprenants chinois de français présentent des particularités en classe, la prise de parole est souvent difficile pour eux. Cela consiste en un grand défi pour les enseignants d’améliorer leur oral. Même si les élèves sont immergés en France, ils manquent généralement d’occasions ou d’envie d’aller à la rencontre des natifs et comptent plutôt sur les cours pour progresser. Afin de relever les enjeux dans l’amélioration de l’expression oral des apprenants, cette recherche prend pour objet un groupe chinois dans le cours de production orale chargé par G. au sein du Centre International d’Études Française. La mission de G. est double : faire progresser les élèves en expression orale et les aider à intégrer les cours à la faculté. Grâce à son expérience avec les élèves du même profil, il a adopté des méthodes propices à atteindre ses objectifs, dont l’exposé sous l’évaluation. En fait, l’exposé en tant qu’aptitude de s’adresser à un auditoire occupe une place importante dans le CECR du niveau A2 à C2. Nous avons eu recours à l’observation du cours et à l’entretien dans cette recherche. Les résultats de ces études qualitatives montrent que la clarté des objectifs pédagogiques et la mise en place des mesures de la part de l’enseignant peuvent assurer la bonne compréhension des élèves. En complément, l’assiduité des apprenants et la stimulation de l’évaluation pourraient optimiser la correspondance entre les résultats et l’attente. L’évaluation d’exposé étudiée dans notre recherche présente ainsi à la fois la fonction formative et la fonction sommative.

“The lover” by Harold Pinter: Conflict of Interests
Get PDFThe main theme in “the lover” by Harold Pinter is the conflict between gender role attitudes, a conflict of interest, a situation in which a married couple make uncanny decisions. This paper explores how traditional gender role attitudes in a middle-class family impact the conflict between love and pleasure in Richard and how they provoke a reciprocal reaction from Sarah. Sarah aims to bring peace by playing diverse roles and expects Richard to do the same. Richard’s roles, as both a lover and a husband, are in conflict with each other since he sees Sarah as a whore at a time and looks out for her dignity, elegance and wit at another time. Subject to a number of thinkers who speak of marriage, sex and gender roles, this article offers some insights into patriarchal capitalism applied to the potential of Harold Pinter’s the lover. The results provide the readers with a new perspective for understanding the persistence of gender equality in a middle-class household and have implications for sexual politics

A Comparison of Ife East, Ife North and Ife Central Local Government Reveals Issues With the Efficient use of Funds Available to Local Governments in Nigeria
Get PDFIn Nigeria, local governments encounter challenges in terms of revenue generation and effective maximization of the available revenue. The rate of embezzlement, bad leadership, low level of accountability, and overall laxity of the finance department in local government in Nigeria served as the inspiration for this study. The study looks at issues preventing Nigerian local government from effectively using the resources it has at its disposal: a comparative study of Ife Central, Ife East, and Ife North Local Government, Osun State. It investigates the differences among Ife Central, Ife East, and Ife North Local governments in their utilization of revenue and explore the effects of revenue utilization on Ife Central, Ife East, and Ife North Local Government areas. Primary and secondary sources of data were used in this research to generate data. It was demonstrated that statutory funding from the federal government to the local government was used for rural development without intervention from the federal and state governments; 56.2% strongly agreed, 34.1% agreed, 2.4% disagreed and 7.3% strongly disagreed. Based on if local government revenues had been utilized effectively for grassroots development; 24.3% strongly agreed, 66.1% agreed, 4.8% disagreed and 4.8% strongly disagreed. Based on whether Local Government has always had financial independence in terms of their expenditures; 7.3% agreed, 43.9% disagreed and 44.8% strongly disagreed. It was raised that the expenditure of Ife-East local government had been in line with their internally generated revenues; 7.3% strongly agreed, 2.4% agreed, 44.8% disagreed and 41.5% strongly disagreed. From this, it could be seen that the expenditure of Ife-East local government had not been in line with their internally generated revenues. This study concluded that local government is unable to drive revenue effectively because of its over-dependency on statutory allocation.
Human Rights: An Overview Perspectives and Conditions That Create Problems of Human Rights and Why It Is Often Ignored by Authorities
Get PDFDespite the declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations (UNO) which was to involve all human race as much as it is universal and logical, to ensuring Freedom, Peace, Security and right to live anywhere you are or make a living, the abuses of human rights tends to have escalated progressively, especially in African societies. In this study many factors have been considered prevalent notwithstanding the programmes, campaigns, education and the wealth of resources that have been put in place for human rights to be observed in all nations. It has been observed that colonization in the African continent is still ongoing. Progress has been slow in achieving complete democratic process. Examples have been taken from life experiences: practical witnesses and documented evidences, reports, publications on abuses. Culture, ethnicity, subjective poverty, colonial “mind set or mentality”, hypocrisy, politics, lack of education, educated illiterates and lack of adequate Human Rights campaign have been seen as factors. Human Right Education is not yet a subject under Universal Basic Education (UBE) curriculum in a majority of African societies school systems. It is only done indirectly in social and cultural studies, civic education rights and responsibilities. The children need education on this with a laboratory practice so that they grow with it – respecting the rights of the other person. Until this is done Human Rights protection, practice or observation will continue to elude many societies, especially peoples of modern Africa
