Get PDFTeacher education and teacher professional development programs often focus on the reinforcement of explicit knowledge, ignoring the improvement of implicit ability, such as critical thinking ability. There should not only be a course titled ‘How to develop critical thinking’, but critical thinking education should be integrated throughout teacher education or development programs. This paper tries to define a teacher’s critical thinking in pedagogical behaviors from the perspective of the role of being a teacher and clarify the connotation of a teacher’s critical thinking ability in his/her pedagogical work, which encompasses a multitude of essential elements, including thinking carefully, determining wisely and reflecting rationally. Corresponding initiatives are incorporated by means of cultivation of the awareness of critical thinking ability, development of critical thinking skills that permeate all aspects of the curriculum and revision of the syllabus and implementation process of training courses through evaluation and feedback

The Impacts of “Neijuan” on College Students in China
Get PDFThe concept of “neijuan” has garnered significant attention in the contemporary landscape of Chinese higher education. This study explores the adverse consequences of “neijuan” within China’s rapidly expanding higher education system. Methodologically, this paper employed the Academic Involution Scale for College Students in China (AISCSC) to assess “neijuan” behavior among Chinese college students. An online questionnaire was administered to 353 students enrolled in universities located in the Eastern and Northern regions of China. The correlation analysis revealed a positive relationship between “neijuan” behavior and college students’ anxiety. The findings of this study underscore the significant challenges posed by “neijuan” to the psychological well-being, motivation, and personal growth of Chinese college students. It highlights the pressing need for educational reforms that prioritize holistic development and future success in higher education
Nigerian Playwrights and Social Realities: A Study of Femi Osofisan’s Once Upon Four Robbers and Paul Ugbede’s Mr. Chairman Sir as Praxis
Get PDFPlays by Nigerian playwrights present, represent, expose and reflect the good, the bad and the ugly of the society. Playwrights as the eyes of the society apply all creative antics to critic economic, cultural and socio-political vices and suggest alternatives. However it is worrisome that few people have time to watch these plays in the live theatre or read the play texts hence the contents are not utilized. Adopting the theory of functionalism by Emile Dunkhiem, this paper examines Femi Osofisan’s Once upon Four Robbers and Paul Ugbede’s Mr. Chairman Sir and come out with the finding that playwrights of Nigerian origin lay bare on Nigeria’s social realities in their plays hence are adequate materials for building a better society where peace and justice can reign. The paper Concludes that writers and their writings are products of their societies and that their writings are therefore powerful forces among others for attaining an enviable society, hence recommends, among others that plays by Nigerian playwrights that showcase Nigeria situation should be encouraged and made available in all educational institutions and the society at large and law makers should not only read or watch these plays but pay close attention and react to issues raised in the plays

In the intelligent era, teachers with strong information teaching ability are of indispensable significance to the construction of college English “golden course”, which can effectively improve the teaching ecology and effectively promote the improvement of education quality. From the perspectives of teachers, schools and the country, this paper puts forward the training strategies for college English teachers’ information-based teaching ability, hoping to provide effective help for the normalization and sustainable development of teachers’ information-based teaching ability, and provide certain references for the development of education information-based education in China.
Ocean Economy in Nigeria: Analysis of the Economic Benefits of River Benue, 1960-2020
Get PDFMany scholars of different shades of life have comprehensively undertaken some studies on River Benue. However, these intellectual enquiries have not x-rayed the economic dimensions of the River. This paper, therefore, attempts to narrow the existing historiographical gap on the subject. Using extant and oral historical sources in line with the interdisciplinary methods, the paper analyses the economic benefits of River Benue between 1960 and 2020. It affirms, the indispensable nexus between the River and thriving agricultural production, water transporation, fishing, block industry, and rice milling, et cetera. The study discusses the challenges that have impeded the aforementioned and related economic activities. The evidence thrown up leads to the major conclusion that the protracted flooding and the resultant massive destruction and obstruction of the economic activities, paucity of funds, lack of modern equipment, and double taxation, among others, posed a grave danger to the aforementioned sources of livelihood. Given the above, the paper concludes that River Benue contributed marginally to the development of the Benue economy. It recommends inter alia the dredging of the river and the construction of a buffer dam
Identity perspective of Iranian Society Toward Cultural Study of Language

The most important issue is that language teaching accompanying with culture can boost students’ understanding of the nature of the language, communication and human relations.The goal of this research is to illustrate that culture and language are inseparable and to introduce the ways of enhancing linguistic comprehension. At the first look, language and culture seem two separate fields, but they twisted together and impact each other reciprocally and inevitably language can be considered a part of culture and plays an immense role in it.This phenomenon can be discussed as the social knowledge. It means we gain this expertise subconsciously. By improving the language, the awareness of our knowledge and our culture will develop. We learn to categorize the world around us by a special language according to acquiring words through the transmitting of the culture.In this work, destroying of local languages and dialects accompany culture and identity loss in the capital city “Tehran’’ has been investigated by population expansion and increased migration linked to urbanization.When the migrants establish a residence in Tehran, face a different language spoken, Farsi, so they have to handle matters of their personal and cultural identity.This aspect of urbanization can destroy the native language of the migrants and then their identity and culture might be threatened.In this study, I have debated the populated shift toward Tehranian language, Farsi as a national language in Tehran, from local and Indigenous languages and dialects such as Gilaki, Lori, Azeri Turki, Kurdish and others (Arabic, Mazandarani, Arabic, Talysh, Balochi,Turkaman) over the generations by analyzing twisted identity and culture.Diversity of languages in Tehran, a metropolitan zone, has been illustrated in viewpoint of increased migration and rural-urban fluctuation in population toward chasing a modern lifestyle which erode identity of a territory joint to the language.Potential changes in language and identity over the recent generations were analyzed by considering the population of new inhabitants based on the migration from small cities or villages to Tehran.In this article, the results have indicated recent loss in identity and culture of local and Indigenous languages in Iran due to dying a language which has been influenced by migration toward urbanization

The Anthropocene Catastrophe: The Mystery of the Disappearance of Matacao in Through the Arc of the Rain Forest
Get PDFThe Japanese-American writer Karen Tei Yamashita’s first novel Through the Arc of the Rain Forest discloses the tremendous impact of technological activities on the natural environment in the Anthropocene. Centering on the mystery of the disappearance of Matacao in this novel, the present paper expounds that its disappearance is an environmental catastrophe of the Anthropocene resulting from the retaliation of nature for the replacement of it by human technological activities under the domination of the scientific and technological rationality. Yamashita’s presentation of the disappearance of Matacao serves as a warning to the world, aiming to advocate that the technological activities should not be controlled only by the scientific and technological rationality, but should recognize and respect the irreplaceability of nature, otherwise these activities will be retaliated by nature, triggering environmental disasters in the Anthropocene, bringing destruction to the Earth and the technological civilization.
