The Application of the “Three Accordance” Principles in the Translation of Foreign Publicity Texts: Taking the translation of Chinese leaders’ epidemic speech as examples
Get PDFThis paper takes the epidemic speech of Chinese leaders as the research object, analyzes the English translation of the epidemic speech of Chinese leaders in detail based on the “Three Accordance” Principles for External Publicity. The translation techniques of foreign publicity texts are discussed - comparing words with each other, turning images into meanings and adapting to local customs. These three techniques are used in order to show the strengths of China and avoid the prejudice and better publicize Chinese opinions and attitudes
The Spirit of Humanistic Care in Alice Munro’s Dear life
Get PDFDear Life is considered to be Munro’ s last work, which Munro said was “the first, last, and most intimate words” about her life. This work not only takes women as the protagonists, grabs the fragments of women’s life to observe their living conditions and explores their rich inner world, but also creates a large number of male images with marginal status, vague identity, passive behavior and even subordinate to women. These men no longer represent the traditional powerful patriarchy and the supreme male power. Instead, they display anxiety about their own masculinity and their male submissive identity, thus presenting a crisis of masculinity and gender paradox. Whether in her description of the plight of women’s survival or in her portrayal of male images losing their subject identity, Munro, in this work, manages to express a humanistic concern for human nature. From the perspective of her understanding of women and her care for men, this paper will discuss Munro’s spirit of humanistic care in Dear life.
An Ecolinguistic Approach to Language Contact and Lexical Borrowing in Chinese
Get PDFLoanwords have long been recognized as an important part of Chinese vocabulary. With the ever increasing exchanges between China and the West, an immense number of loanwords have flooded into Chinese with unprecedented scale and penetrated every social aspect, which is the natural phenomenon and result of language contact and linguistic diversity. Loanwords have, to a certain extent, altered the linguistic landscape of modern Chinese. The emergence, changes and disappearance of loanwords are similar to the evolution of the natural world with the features and ecological rules of its own. Moreover, the existence and development of language share some intrinsic similarities to some degree with the ecology of natural beings. Ecolinguistics which is a newly emerging linguistic science which integrates ecology and linguistics can be demonstrated and justified in the study of loanwords, since language is inseparable from its environment, and it can never be considered in isolation. Languages can be regarded as entities, which form an ecolinguistic system with their environment, where languages multiply, interbreed, vary, influence each other mutually, compete or converge. This system is in interrelation with the environment.

Socio-Economic Implications of Displacement in North-East Nigeria for Public Policy
Get PDFThis study investigated the causes of displacement, plights of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), and the socio-economic implications for public policy in the North–East Nigeria. The primary data was by in-depth interviews with twenty-four selected key informants that included four senior officials each of National Emergency Management Agency, North East Development Commission, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian, Disaster Management and Social Development. Others were three members each of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria, and Farmers Association of Nigeria, and six IDPs from selected camps in the North-East Nigeria. The secondary data was through journal articles, government publications, and non-governmental organizations’ survey data. Both data were content analyzed. The study revealed that IDPs face challenges of shelter, education, feeding, health facility and denial of the global principles. The study concluded that emergency camps are not equipped with the necessary facilities to take care of IDPs in Nigeria

College graduates are the key group of employment work, and their employment is the focus of social attention. The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of career planning, career values, internship practice and enterprise participation on the employment quality of higher vocational students, and put forward corresponding development strategies. By combing relevant literature and theories, this paper deeply analyzes the challenges faced by vocational students in the process of career planning, the impact of vocational values on career selection and development, the role of internship practice in vocational students’ employment quality and the impact of enterprise participation on vocational students’ employment quality. This paper uses the literature research method to review the relevant theories of career planning, career values, internship practice and enterprise participation. The case analysis method analyzes the current situation of enterprises’ participation in vocational college students’ career planning, vocational values cultivation, internship practice and enterprise participation, so as to reveal the problems. Finally, through questionnaire survey and in-depth interview, the corresponding data samples are collected, and the statistical analysis method is used to process and analyze the data

The study looks into identity and culture to investigate the ethnic traits of Haitian, American, and Nigerian ethnicity depicted in the selected stories. It follows a close reading of the stories’ texts to explore the thematic nuances of Danticat’s, Walker’s, and Nwokolo’s postcolonial style. That is, the selected stories portray the literary reverberations created by Danticat and Walker, and Nwokolo to offer a universal view of the Haitian-American and Nigerian cultural changes that affected their native identity. By studying the characters and settings, the mythology applies the concepts of culture and identity to unravel the authors’ attempts to enhance their ethnicity teetering on the brink of postcolonial cultural transformation
From Metaphors to Metonymies: Two Paradigms of Nature Writing in American Southern Literature

This article analyses The Sound and the Fury written by William Faulkner, the icon of the “Southern Renaissance”, and Mama Day, a critically acclaimed work by contemporary African American female writer Gloria Naylor, focusing on their different strategies of nature writing from the perspective of rhetoric. It unveils the metaphorical and metonymical aspects of the natural symbols in these two novels respectively and further points out the gap is caused by divergent ways of plotting so as to write the Southern history— Faulkner, as a modernist writer, chooses the romantic way, while Naylor, belonging to the postmodernists, writes a tragedy

As an emerging research field in psychology, embodied cognitive theory contains rich educational and teaching implications, which provides new perspectives and enlightenment for the observation and examination of the teaching design of the Open University. In order to effectively achieve the goal of talent training, better reflect the principle of teaching according to aptitude, and effectively solve the needs of classroom teaching, this paper uses the embodiment, situationality and generativity of embodied cognitive theory as the guiding principles of teaching design, and puts forward the practical path of embodied turn in the teaching design of Open University: the establishment of embodied design framework, the construction of embodied teaching field and the implementation of embodied teaching process
