Tragedy and its Perpetual Controversy, With a Particular Reference to George Steiner’s Death of Tragedy and Terry Eagleton’s Tragedy
Get PDFThe present article aims to explore the concept of tragedy as delineated by Aristotle, its particularity, nature, objectives, practices, procedures, topics, representations of human beings and complex interrelations with the metaphysical and eschatological factors. A pivotal issue to be highlighted here is the reasons behind the gradual decline or demise of tragedy in our present technological age. This hypothesis implies the economic, cultural, political, ethical and social mutations in European societies throughout the twenty-five centuries ever since its birth in the fifth century BC. The article also provides a sufficient account of the Athenian tragedy as specified by Aristotle and his significant contribution to the tragic genre and its prescriptions and proscriptions. There are some references to the valuable judgments of the philosophers Schopenhauer and Nietzsche. The main argument will concentrate on the striking views of the two twentieth century critics: the French-English George Steiner and his remarkable book, Death of Tragedy (1961), and Tragedy (2020) by the contemporary Irish critic, Terry Eagleton. The main emphasis of the article is on these two critics and their illuminating arguments. The conclusion is a recapitulation and highlighting of the points raised throughout the article.
Effet de l’application des textes littéraires sur l’expression écrite dans une classe inversée de français langue étrangère pour des apprenants iraniens
Get PDFLa démarche de classe inversée implique une telle organisation du processus éducatif dans lequel les devoirs et les activités de la classe sont inversés. Cette recherche s’intéresse à la pédagogie inversée et à son application en cours de français langue étrangère (FLE) en Iran. Afin de parvenir à cet objectif, on leur exige de faire les activités de niveau modéré cognitif à la maison et ainsi, bénéficier de l’heure de classe pour apprendre les contenus plus complexes à l’aide de l’enseignant et en insistant sur la pratique en groupe et l’apprentissage collaboratif. Dans la première partie, on va analyser les particularités de cette démarche d’enseignement/apprentissage en tant que la nouvelle invention pour expliquer la leçon et que les apprenants connaissent le matériel avant le cours. Dans la deuxième partie, afin de valoriser cette démarche pédagogique, on a fait la recherche sur l’évolution dustatut de l’erreur de production écrite des apprenants iraniens du FLE. Donc, on a visé à analyser les types d’erreurs commises ainsi que leurs sources. Les auteurs présentent les résultats obtenus par l’expérience de la réalisation de la classe inversée dans la classe de langue. Enfaite, la recherche indique que l’utilisation de la démarche décrite dans le processus d’apprentissage renforce la motivation des apprenants et améliore leurs résultats éducatifs. Au fond des résultats obtenus sur les grilles d’observation des cours de ces enseignants, notre hypothèse confirme que la démarche de la classe inversée peut être un élément choisi pour favoriser l’acquisition de compétence de l’expression écrite
Research Status and Future Prospects of Coordinated Development of Rural Revitalization and New Urbanization
Get PDFAgricultural and rural development is an important component of national development, and is of great significance to national food security, economic development, urban-rural integration, social harmony, and ecological environment protection. The coordinated development of rural revitalization and new urbanization, like “the wings of a bird and the wheels of a car”, is an intrinsic requirement for promoting national development. However, in the process of urban-rural development, the urban-biased policies have continuously widened the gap between urban and rural areas, which has seriously hindered the pace of national modernization. Based on the current academic research, this paper compares the views of scholars at both domestic and international, and makes a comprehensive collation of relevant concepts. At the same time, it combines dual economics, regional economic development, and the theory of urban-rural relations of Marx and Engels to make an in-depth analysis of the coupling mechanism between the rural revitalization and new urbanization. Eventually, in view of the existing problems, this paper proposes that future research should be deepened in the following three aspects: the connotation and interactive mechanism of China’s rural revitalization and new urbanization, the coupling relationship between the two items, and the construction of an evaluation index system for the coordinated development of them
Decolonising African Indigenous Medicine: A Complementarity of Past and Future in Aramide Segun’s Eniitan, Daughter of Destiny
Get PDFDecolonisation of any kind is as futuristic as it is concerned with erasing the effects of colonial legacies on a culture or nation, although it has largely been treated merely as the reversal of colonial legacies. The concept of decolonisation has not been satisfactorily examined for futuristic tendencies. Therefore, this paper examines how the decolonisation of African indigenous medicine projects into the complementarity of its past and future. The Postcolonial theory is adopted as the theoretical framework of this study while data is derived from Aramide Segun’s Eniitan, Daughter of Destiny.This paper argues that the decolonisation of African indigenous knowledge, which is a slice of the decolonisation of African tradition as a whole, is not merely an effort to rid it of colonial legacies, it is rather an effort to create a future from a reawakened past. From its findings, this paper argues decolonising African medicine also entails treating it as part of the African future.
Optimizing Instructional Design and Business English Teaching Using the BEICF Conceptual Framework in Universities in Zhejiang, China

It draws on a BEICF conceptual framework from the theory of MBO in management, and analyzed data from the teaching experiment of experimental group with BEICF conceptual framework and control group. This paper shows how instructional design and business English teaching with BEICF conceptual framework different from the current teaching practices and the achievement it has reached. Although with some challenges, it offers solutions to the short-comings of current business English teaching in Chinese universities in Zhejiang
Parents’ Satisfaction With the Services Provided to Their Students With Mild Intellectual Disabilities in Special Education Schools in the State of Kuwait
Get PDFThe current study aimed at the level of parents’ satisfaction with the services provided to their children with mild intellectual disabilities in special education schools in the State of Kuwait. The study sample was chosen by the available intentional method, and the study sample consisted of 120 guardians of male students with intellectual disabilities in the State of Kuwait for the academic year 2022/2023. To achieve the goals of study, the researcher constructed the tool and reliability and validity were obtained. The results showed that the total mean level of parents’ satisfaction with the services provided to their children with mild intellectual disabilities in special education schools in the State of Kuwait was (1.84), with a mean level. The results also indicated that there were statistically significant differences in all sub-domains of the measure of parents’ satisfaction with the services provided to their children with mild intellectual disabilities in special education schools in the State of Kuwait, due to the educational qualification variable. The study recommended identifying the opinions of parents about the nature of the services provided to their children with mild intellectual disabilities in Kuwait
Creative Ingenuity and Gender Studies in a Digital Era: A Rumination on Some Selected Playtexts
Get PDFAcademic discourse and scholars for decades, have shifted attention to gender issues. The area of gender discourse that most received this attention, is maltreatment and subjugation of women or the girl-child. But little or no attention has been given to the area of women battering men or wife battering husband. It is so disheartening to note that men are also subjects of maltreatment in the hands of women and cannot talk about it. Thus, many of them are dying in silence. The study aims at examining the spate at which this menace has eaten deep into the ‘flesh’ of men. The paper achieves this through the study of some playtexts that silently house the issues of women battering men and how this can be read or seen through digitalized means, especially now that the world has become a global village. In order to attain this fit, the researchers adopt the qualitative research methodology through content analysis and merging it through digital means for wider coverage of their contents. The research therefore, concludes that if playtexts are studied beyond ordinary reading, more messages and information would be found through them. The study thus, recommends that once such messages are discovered, they should be presented to the world (audience) via digital means for wider and broader viewing
Tumpangsari as Agroforestry Practices in Gunung Arjuna-Lalijiwo Forest Reserve, East Java, Indonesia
Get PDFAgroforestry is a land that uses a management system in which trees are mixed in the same land with food crops or pasture for domestic animals. The interactions were reflected in community-based activities by utilizing forest land to cultivate crops using tumpangsari agroforestry system. The study was conducted at the Karangploso sub-district in Tawangargo, Donowarih and Ngenep villages in Universitas Brawijaya Forest (UBF) forest reserves. The objectives of this study are to examine factors contributing to the total area of cultivated land from tumpangsari agroforestry and to assess the impact caused by the transition of the forest management system on the socioeconomic in terms of income. Data was gathered through questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and site observation. This study applied the dominant quantitative approach and less dominant qualitative as well as convenience sampling technique. Descriptive and multiple linear regression analyses have been used to analyze socio-economic factors contributing to the total area of cultivated land. The study revealed that the income of tumpangsari farmers at UBF have increased after five years of transition, from IDR1M - 2M to IDR 2M - 3M monthly. The highest income are from respondent who cultivated coffee, vegetables and other crops range between IDR 3M - IDR 4M or 10.1% of the total respondents and 1.7% earned more than IDR 4M monthly. In addition, 82.29% of farmers strongly agreed that UBF management play an important role in helping farmers in tumpangsari agroforestry practices to increased their family income.
Glorification of True Love in Shakespeare’s Sonnet 116: A Textual Approach

The sonnet is famous for the speaker’s conviction and passion as they set out to define and confirm their faith in love, and it is this exploration into what love means and what it does to people that lends the poem to universality. Many people cannot identify with this desire to find and understand love, reflecting the universal nature of love in themes and topics found in all of Shakespeare’s works. The study first provides a historical background of life in the sixteenth century in England followed by the Renaissance period in England, after that it presents the sixteenth century English poetry, then it introduces sonnet in general and Shakespearean sonnet in specific. The existing literature is explained on Shakespeare and his works, also the methods which the researchers used to reach the conclusion have been highlighted. Types of love are explained briefly and love in “Sonnet 116” is discussed at the end along with the idea of the sonnet.The researchers attempted to demonstrate clear and brief answers to questions like “How did Shakespeare define true love in sonnet 116?” The imagery of this sonnet, also the glorification of true love by Shakespeare and Shakespeare’s view about true love have been discussed through textual and historical approaches
Miguel Street in the Perspective of Jungian Analytical Psychology
Get PDFBritish writer of Indian origin Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2001 for Miguel Street, his acclaimed work, for which he won the Maugham Literary Award for this collection of short stories. This work portrays a large group of marginalized people with psychological imbalance and eccentric behavior by describing the minutiae of life and the mental world on Miguel Street in Port of Spain, the capital of British colonial Trinidad. This paper will apply the theories of Jungian analytical psychology such as archetypes and complexes to provide psychological explanations and support for those marginalized people. Archetypes like persona and shadow and complexes like poet complex and hero complex are mainly theoretical foundations used in this paper.
