Exploring the Feasibility and Necessity of Moral Evaluation of College Students
Get PDF“A country cannot prosper without virtue, and a person cannot succeed without morality.”Morality is the core and key of the talent quality system, and it is crucial for the development of the country and individuals. However, there has been a lot of controversy in the theoretical circle about whether morality can be evaluated and whether it is necessary to evaluate it. In fact, morality itself is an objective psychological reflection with stable structural content. Coupled with the fact that the formation and performance of college students’ morality have certain regularities, this provides a solid theoretical foundation for the feasibility of college students’ moral evaluation. In addition, through the evaluation of college students’ morality, it can also help cultivate and develop college students’ moral literacy, test the effectiveness of ideological and political education in colleges and universities, and improve the ideological and moral level of the whole society, which provides sufficient practical basis for the necessity of college students’ moral evaluation.
An Analysis of Conrad’s Colonial Thoughts From Heart of Darkness

It is regarded by many readers and critics as an important anti-colonial work, and Conrad is also viewed as an anti-colonial writer. But in fact, Conrad’s praise and defense of colonialism is evident in his work. The cultural hegemony and the distortion of the image of Africa and African indigenous people in the novel just meet the needs of colonial ideology, provide the cultural support for the colonialists, and make Conrad an accomplice of other colonialists. This paper will focus on the analysis of Conrad’s colonialist identity based on the text of Heart of Darkness.

Transnational Collaboration Within Higher Education in China: Context, Characteristics, and Challenges
Get PDFThis paper discusses the development of transnational collaboration in Chinese higher education (TNHE). TNHE refers to arrangements and institutional partnerships between Educational Institutions, in which the students are located in different countries from the one in which the awarding institution is based. Through analyzing the cases of TNHE in China, we found that the convergence/globalization model and the borrowing/localization model are two main TNHE prototypes. TNHE in China is guided by the Government, which is aiming to enhance China’s international competitiveness, in a globalizing world. This paper discusses the consumers and the operation of TNHE in China. In addition to the context analysis, critical factors for the success of TNHE in China are addressed, consisting of the long-term strategic vision, governance, management, and strategy. TNHE in China faces several challenges, including duplication of similar projects, quality assurance and legal status. Study on Translation, Dissemination and Influence of Three Character Classic by Chinese Repository
Get PDFThere have been many studies on the English translation of Three Character Classic, but not enough attention has been paid to the translation of Elijah Coleman Bridgman published in 1835 by Chinese Repository. Most of the present studies briefly mentioned its translation, but few systematic and in-depth investigations have been made into it. Therefore, the historical significance of its translation has been undervalued. This study aims to objectively describe and analyze the historical motivation, process, communication, and impact of the translation of the Three Character Classic by Chinese Repository. It is found that Bridgman took advantage of a large number of paratexts to make sweeping accusations against Confucian educational thought and philosophy, forcing the essence of Chinese primary education to be exposed to the western world, aiming to reveal that China desperately needed the salvation of the Christian Gospel to enlighten its children as well as to lay the foundation for its missionary work. However, it is undeniable that its translation action objectively spread the culture of Chinese primary education and the basic concepts of Confucianism to the West, and built a bridge for westerners to understand China’s traditional culture.
Translation and Dissemination of Yang’s Selected Tales of Liaozhai From the Paratext Perspective

Based on the paratext theory, this paper attempts to analyze the paratexts of Yang’s English version Selected Tales of Liaozhai and the role it plays in the translation and dissemination by exploring the epitexts including translators’ identity, autobiography and the magazine Chinese Literature as well as the peritexts such as the book cover, titles, annotations, preface and postscript, in hopes of revealing inspirations for “going out” of the Chinese culture.
Gendered English Constructions and Women Invisibility in Nigerian Newspapers
Get PDFThis study investigates how Nigerian journalists use gendered English in their writings with a view to inter alia identifying and determining the occurrences of gender-bias expressions in Nigerian newspapers. The study also shows how Nigerian journalists’ use of language has led to women’s invisibility in the press. Data for this study are from four widely read purposively selected Nigerian Englishmedium newspapers. Data gathered were analysed quantitatively and qualitatively using mainly the framework of Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis. The study’s findings reveal an overwhelming use of masculine nouns/pronouns as generic terms, stereotypic references to male gender with respect to professions when referents are for both feminine and masculine genders. The findings also show male precedence in word-pairing, relative references to women with typical masculine words and preponderant references to men which are demonstrative of reduction of female gender to a state of invisibility while affirming the dominance of male gender. The study concludes that the use of gendered English expressions has become the norm in Nigerian newspapers through the indiscriminate use of gendered expressions. It recommends, among others, the need to revisit the general media code of ethics and practice for journalists in Nigeria to include a stipulation on the gender-fair reporting and encourage the usage of gender-neutral English.
Underreporting Violence Against Women in Edo State: The Implications
Get PDFDomestic violence has become a regular occurrence in many African societies but its reporting is argued to be very much below especially domestic violence against women in Nigeria. This is unacceptable. This study investigated incidences of violence against women happening in various communities in Edo State. It was carried out using content analysis and qualitative research design. The population comprises of journal articles, books, reports, website and other related materials published in Nigeria from which a convenience sample was selected (2013 to 2023). The study found that the underreporting of violence happening in Edo State is the same as the underreporting of violence happening in other parts of the country. It found that there has been a slightly visible impact of the provisions of the law and the National Gender policy in abating the violence against women in Edo State. The study concluded that the incidences of violence against women results presented in the paper were a vivid reflection of the situation in Edo State. It recommended that awareness about the ills of violence should be created and severe sanctions should be given to perpetrators to eliminate violence
Manifestations of Ethnicity and Religion in 2023 Presidential Election in Nigeria
Get PDFUndoubtedly, the twin problems of African politics for ages reared their ugly heads in the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria. Thus, the thrust of this paper is basically to empirically demonstrate the manifestations of ethnicity and religion in the election. With the official results from the Election Management Body (EMB) that is Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), this paper has proved beyond reasonable doubt that Nigerian politics since independence in 1960 has not grown beyond pettiness of ethnicity and religion. In view of the debilitating impacts of the twin problems vis-à-vis national integration, the paper recommends that all efforts should be geared towards truncating the impact of the phenomena before another general election by public enlightenment if all efforts at national integration will be not be a mirage after all. More so, there is a need to evolve appropriate electoral system that can help democracy survive in the face of deep cleavages of ethnicity and religion.
Research on International Communication of Ceramic Culture in Jingdezhen Tourist Attractions
