The Predicament and Countermeasures of China’s 1+X Certificates system: Based on the Perspective of Stakeholders
Get PDFChina’s skilled talent evaluation certificates mainly include vocational qualification certificates, vocational skill level certificates and special vocational ability certificates, but they are not aimed at college students. In 2019, China launched the pilot of the 1+X certificate systems, proposing to develop vocational skill level certificates for college students, so as to improve the quality of vocational education in China. From the perspective of stakeholder theory, X certificates are of great significance to students, teachers, colleges, and employers. However, at present, X certificates still have some problems, such as insufficient authority for evaluation organizations, weak construction of teacher team, insufficient teaching supply and insufficient coverage of certificates. In order to improve the effectiveness of 1+X certificates, it is necessary to improve the authority of vocational skill level certificates, restructure the teaching staff, increase the types of X certificates, and restructure the curriculum system.

A Comparative Evaluation of Materials Selection in the Integrated Course of NHCE and NPCE
Get PDFBased on the theories of textbook evaluation, this research chooses materials from the first and second volumes of the Student’s Books in New Progressive College English Integrated Course (short for NPCE, published by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press in 2017) and New Horizon College English Reading and Writing Course (short for NHCE, published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press in 2015) as research subjects for comparison and analysis. The paper analyses the two sets of books in terms of language, contents and exercises according to the College English Course Requirements, and tries to find out which one can better cater for the needs of students. The comparative analyses mainly includes word quantity, word difficulty, word frequency, the proportion of new words, the total number of sentences and their complexity, the genres and topics of the texts and the comprehensiveness of exercises. Results indicate that NHCE is more suitable for students in terms of language and picks passages which have different emphases from NPCE and focuses more on arousing students’ thinking, while the topics and exercises in NPCE are more comprehensive. Both sets of books have their advantages and disadvantages. It is expected that this research will provide textbook compilers with help and reference in their future work.

Get PDFLa construction du système discursif international de la Chine est un concept relativement nouveau, mais sa place dans le développement de la Chine elle est extrêmement importante. Ce concept est devenu une politique nationale ayant pour objectif de former un droit de parole qui correspond à la puissance globale et au statut international de la Chine. Par conséquent, la caractéristique fondamentale du système discursif international de la Chine est la conception globalisée. Le concept du système discursif international est né dans une période où le monde traverse des transformations majeures jamais connues depuis un siècle. La montée en puissance de la Chine l’a mise sous les feux de la rampe de l’opinion publique mondiale, ce qui place souvent le pays dans une position désavantageuse lorsqu’il est confronté au système discursif dominant, qui est depuis longtemps dominé par les États-Unis. Par conséquent, la construction du système discursif international constitue une tâche urgente pour la Chine. Cependant, les lacunes de la Chine à cet égard sont évidentes, car on se trouve encore à une phase où l’image de la Chine est façonnée principalement par les récits des médias occidentaux. Dans cet article, nous avons résumé les caractéristiques du système discursif international de la Chine, analysé les lacunes existantes et proposé des contre-mesures possibles, dans l’espoir de faire un bilan de ce projet à long terme et de servir de référence pour le développement de ce système à l’avenir
“Escape”: Ragtime and American National Identity in the Process of “Mobility”

Doctorow portrays early twentieth-century American society in the process of modernization as an “era of mobility”, and uses the magician Houdini’s “escape” as a lead to connect a series of “escapes” of many characters, which not only deconstructs the “myth of progress” but also shows that the American nation has lost its “center” of cohesion. By using the fluid representation of “escape”, Doctorow conveys a double reflection on the identity of the American nation: first, he denies the significance of “escape” for the construction of cultural identity. On the other hand, he recognizes the pragmatic values and conciliatory political attitude contained in “escape” as a roundabout and resourceful survival strategy, and reshapes the ideal of “melting pot”, revealing an optimistic outlook on American national identity, and ultimately calling for a hybrid and integrative American national identity
The Literature Review of the Translation of China’s Online Novels
Get PDFIn the digital age, the prosperity of China’s online literature has accelerated the process of Chinese culture going global. China’s online novels are rich in traditional Chinese culture, including Yin and Yang and eight diagrams, and have popular expressions and dramatic plots with creative imaginations such as time-travel and rebirth. In this way, China’s online novels gather a large number of overseas fans. As a bridge for Chinese cultural export, translation is all the more necessary at this moment to strengthen the foundation and push China’s online literature onto the world stage. This paper starts with the overview of China’s online literature by discussing its definition, classification, and its international communication. Then, the paper makes a detailed analysis of the current situation of its translation studies from the perspectives of medio-translatology, eco-translatology and functional equivalence theory. The deficiencies of the previous studies are also pointed out to provide some reference for a more comprehensive and in-depth translation study of China’s online novels in the future
Participatory Communication as a Viable Tool for Communicating the Negative Impacts of Drug Abuse in Lafia Local Government of Nasarawa State
Get PDFThe Nigerian nation has been faced by avalanches of social issues over the years. Some of these social menace includes drug abuse and trafficking. By extension, the aforementioned problems have in the recent years fuelled other problems like abnormal and criminal behaviours such as armed robbery, kidnapping, terrorism and formation of local gangs and cultist groups, which have become a threat to a healthy and peaceful society. Thus, the need to solve the problem of drug abuse and trafficking has been one of the major concerns of the Nigerian nation in the recent times. Hence, many agencies including Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency among others have been established to control the issues of drug abuse and trafficking across the country. The media agencies such as radio, television and newspapers have equally been used as attempts to address the problems. However, in face of all these means, the problem of drug abuse and trafficking seems to be on the increase across the country. Many studies have argued that participatory communication has the potential to mitigate different forms of social issues. Hence, this work, through the use of evaluative approach of the qualitative methodology, is undertaken to interrogate the potential of participatory communication in addressing the issues of drug abuse and its related consequences upon the youths of Lafia Local Government Area, Nassarawa State. Among other things, the findings have revealed that drug abuse and its related consequences have serious negative impacts on the youths of Lafia Local Government Area of Nassarawa State, and participatory communication is a viable approach that can be used to mitigate the problems. Therefore, valuable recommendations were made accordingly
