Agony of Postmodern Love: A Study of Patrick Marber’s Closer
As one of the most significant British plays of the 1990s, Closer depicts a postmodern consumerist society where young adults suffer from the agony of love. In light of the inadequacy of current interdisciplinary studies on the play, this study is aimed at extrapolating the reasons for the characters’ failure to attain closeness in Closer based on Byung-Chul Han’s philosophy of postmodern Eros. As is manifested in the play, these young men and women are isolated and dissociated due to their egocentric tendency to appropriate and use the Other for their own ends; their substitution of uniqueness in the Other with self-imaged Homogeneity; the commodification of love to pornography in society which induces their fuzziness of true identify and incapability of differentiating between the real and the fake; and their complex play of power relations between two competitive sexes. Hopefully, this study can not only enlighten the contemporary humanity who still wish for a healthy and long-lasting relationship but provide some reference for subsequent scholars to conduct more diversified cross-field studies of Marber
Sustainability in Sanitation: A Comparative Analysis of Cities in Brazil and Canada
This paper presents a comparative analysis of sanitation practices in Brazil and Canada, focusing on the challenges faced and efforts made to improve sanitation facilities and universal access to clean water and hygienic treatment. The study utilizes a qualitative research design, incorporating a systematic document review methodology to examine peer-reviewed articles, governmental reports, policy documents, and official statistics from both countries. The analysis reveals the specific challenges encountered in Brazil, particularly in rural areas and marginalized communities, as well as the initiatives taken by the government to enhance sanitation. Similarly, the study explores Canada’s commitment to sustainable development, including the obstacles encountered in ensuring access to clean water and sanitation, with a special emphasis on indigenous communities. Thematic analysis is employed to identify commonalities and differences between the two nations, leading to valuable insights and conclusions. While the study acknowledges limitations such as the broad scope of the topic and the absence of primary data collection, it contributes to the existing literature on sanitation issues and underscores the importance of a multi-sectoral approach in addressing water and sanitation challenges

Effects of Graphic Organizers on Reading Comprehension of Pupils With Dyslexia in Primary Schools in Owerri, Imo State Nigeria
Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition, by poor spelling and decoding abilities. A good number of pupils experience it. Therefore, intervention strategies are needed to ameliorate these challenges because of its effect on learners and their learning. This study examined the effects of graphic organizers on reading comprehension of pupils with dyslexia in primary schools in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. Participants were 80 pupils with dyslexia selected through convenience sampling. Pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design was used for the study. Three hypothesis were tested using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) and Multiple Classification Analysis (MCA). Results of data analysis shows that graphic organizer had significant main difference on reading comprehension of the participants (F-ratio = 85.329; p<.05) while gender had no significant main effect on reading comprehension of the participants (F-ratio = .344, p<.05). Significant interaction effect of graphic organizer on reading comprehension of the participants was also found (F-ratio = .305, p<.05). The need for workshop on the use of graphic organizer for teaching reading comprehension to pupils with dyslexia and the need to ensure gender balance should be considered while grouping pupils with dyslexia for graphic organizer were advocated
The Impact of AI from the Perspective of Multilingual Students
In a world marked by the rapid ascension of AI technology, the consequences of this transformation extend across industries. Automation is becoming more prevalent, and human-machine interactions are redefining job markets. This article delves into the influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the professional landscape, with a focus on the experiences of multilingual students. As AI technologies reach their zenith, traditional, labor-intensive sectors are adapting to the reality of AI-induced unemployment. The shift is most apparent in fields dependent on manual labor, such as construction, manufacturing, and electronics assembly. Industries that have thrived on repetitive, labor-intensive tasks are now transitioning to AI, replacing human workers with automated machines that offer precision, efficiency, and reduced operational risks. Consequently, we are witnessing the onset of an AI-induced unemployment wave that has far-reaching implications. Parallel to the automation of manual labor, language-related sectors are undergoing substantial changes. Translation, simultaneous interpretation, foreign language instruction, and editorial work are no exceptions. The meteoric rise of machine translation, fueled by advances in AI, has reshaped this landscape. Machine translation, evolving from rudimentary word-for-word conversion to a context-aware understanding of language nuances, is poised to challenge human translators. However, its capabilities remain concentrated in widely used languages, and challenges arise when translating less common or non-universal languages. The predicament of translating non-universal languages underscores the limitations of AI, demonstrating that it can provide invaluable assistance but may not replace the finesse of human language experts. This shift leaves multilingual students and language professionals in a unique position. They can add value by leveraging their deep understanding of languages, cultures, and contextual nuances. The skill of bridging linguistic and cultural gaps is becoming increasingly indispensable in international business, diplomacy, and cross-cultural communication. As the AI era advances, multilingual individuals must recognize the unique skills they possess in understanding emotional, cultural, and contextual subtleties. In an environment where AI excels at translating factual content but falls short in conveying the emotions of a letter, the nuances of a poem, or the cultural depth of a phrase, multilingual students and language professionals stand as indispensable figures
Modern War Technologies and Global Peace and Security
An attempt was made in this paper to reflect on the transformation of war from 18th-century military engagements on the battlefield to the use of modern technology where wars are fought in decentralized ways from land, air, and sea with devastating impact on peace. The study becomes necessary to unveil how the relics of war with its multiplier effects impact world peace. War is a violent conflict declared by two or more states over resources, occupation of territory, among others, with debilitating consequences on both human and material resources. In the study, three theoretical orientations were used for analysis. These include devil’s theory, realists, and the military-industrial complex. Historical analysis was employed as the incidents of wars were past events. The paper uses a qualitative method of data gathering. The findings of the paper revealed that peace is elusive where war is fought. Since people are vulnerable to hunger, diseases, decay infrastructure, among others, it was recommended that disarmament is the option among others if the world would enjoy peace

Intergenerational Learning: A New Approach to Overcoming Participation Barriers in Education Among Older Adults: Based on the Perspective of “the Elderly and the Young”
Based on an analysis of 734 samples from Hangzhou, it is found that older adults face numerous barriers to participation in education, including institutional barriers, situational barriers, intention barriers, and information barriers. The intergenerational gap in grandparent-grandchild caregiving is a significant factor affecting participation in education. As a new perspective for older adult education, intergenerational learning can break the traditional thinking of intergenerational caregiving, promote innovation in older adult education, explore new elderly care models, and achieve collaborative learning, mutual benefit, and lifelong learning. This paper explores the design concepts and practical models of intergenerational learning and, based on the perspective of “the Elderly and the Young”, actively addresses participation barriers in fields, such as concept reshaping, mechanism integration, resource provision, and institutional support. This is done to provide a reference for the construction and development of intergenerational learning models in China and respond to the new demands of active aging in the new era
