Research on the Integrated Application of Backward Design and Task-Based Language Teaching in Second Language Instruction

    Get PDF
With the rapid acceleration of globalization, second language teaching is encountering unprecedented opportunities and challenges. Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) has emerged as a widely recognized and adopted methodology in the field of second language education due to its focus on practical language use and learner engagement. However, significant areas for improvement remain, particularly in terms of goal setting, instructional design, and assessment methods. This paper introduces the Backward Design model as a guiding framework for TBLT, exploring the integrated application of these two approaches in second language instruction. Backward Design, with its focus on defining desired learning outcomes and planning instruction backward from these endpoints, aligns well with the task-centered focus of TBLT. The integration of these two approaches can lead to more coherent and effective teaching strategies. This study proposes a comprehensive teaching framework that aims to enhance instructional effectiveness by ensuring better alignment between learning objectives and tasks, providing enhanced assessment and feedback mechanisms, and fostering a more engaging learning experience. Through practical case studies, this paper illustrates the successful implementation of this integrated approach, demonstrating that this combined strategy can significantly improve second language acquisition by fostering clearer objectives, stronger learner motivation, and more effective skill integration. The practical application of this integrated method shows that it can address common challenges in language teaching, such as maintaining student interest, providing relevant and practical language practice, and effectively measuring language proficiency. Ultimately, this study offers practical recommendations for educators seeking to adopt a more cohesive and effective approach to second language teaching, highlighting the potential for this integrated model to contribute to overall academic and professional development of learners

Nowadays, with the rapid development of information technology, “new liberal arts” has broken through the barriers between disciplines and injected new vitality into the development of traditional liberal arts. As an important course in the postgraduate stage, the teaching of public English course should take the construction of new liberal arts as the background. Based on the influence and inspiration of the construction of new liberal arts on English teaching, this paper explores the construction of a multi-dimensional public English teaching model for graduate students, which integrates information technology with English teaching, ideological and political education with English classroom practice, and the first and second classrooms from the aspects of teaching philosophy, teaching objectives, teaching content, teaching methods, resource allocation, and evaluation system. The aim of this study is to optimize and perfect the English teaching model and teaching connotation at the graduate level, and to promote the development of the reform of public English teaching for graduate students

Have the High Court of Australia’s Directions in Farah Constructions Regarding “Seriously Considered Dicta” Needlessly Undermined the Doctrine of Precedent and Legal Certainty?

    Get PDF
In the 2007 decision in Farah Constructions Pty Ltd v Say-Dee Pty Ltd, the High Court of Australia criticized the New South Wales Court of Appeal’s recognition of a new cause of action as inappropriate since it departed from “long-established authority and seriously considered dicta of a majority of” the High Court. The High Court’s statement concerning “seriously considered dicta” apparently introduced a new rule of precedent that a species of judicial dicta could be binding on lower courts. This article analyses the impact of the statement on the doctrine of precedent and legal certainty. It argues that the statement undermines the doctrine’s function in maintaining the legitimacy of judge-made law and the balance achieved by the doctrine between certainty and flexibility. The statement also introduces considerable uncertainty. It is unclear what constitutes a ‘seriously considered’ dictum and its relationship to ‘long-established authority’. Given the negative effect of the statement, the High Court should clarify the doctrine of precedent by declaring that dicta cannot be binding

    Get PDF
Taking Halliday’s transitivity system and corpus linguistics as the theoretical framework, this study uses corpus research tools to conduct Critical Discourse Analysis on the news discourse of China’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative reported in the Western media. The study finds that most Western media reports on the Initiative adopt an objective and rational manner, believing that the Initiative demonstrates China’s openness and cooperation; however, there are also instances of ideological and ecological bias and distortion in some Western media, which portray it as a means of military expansion or economic incursion by employing linguistic tactics and vocabulary choices. And there are also cases of ideological bias and distortion in some Western media that portray the Initiative as a way of military expansion or economic invasion through language strategies and word choice. At the same time, this study further interprets, analyzes and explains the discursive stance constructed in the news reports of the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as the internal motivation and logic of its formation. To a certain extent, this study provides a new research horizon for combining critical discourse research with modern technological tools

    Get PDF
Objective: The objective of this study is to assess the high-quality development of commercial health insurance in mainland China, and discuss its effectiveness and efficiency in the sense of coordination with economic development. More specifically, the objective is threefold: (1) to construct an all-round assessment matrix with a compound index to measure the high-quality development of commercial health insurance; (2) to track the dynamic evolution of regional commercial health insurance development, as well as the regional disparities; (3) to measure the coupling coordinated development level between regional commercial health insurance and regional economics. Methods: The study was supported by the 2011-2020 provincial panel data from China Statistical Yearbook、China City Statistical Yearbook、Yearbook of China’s Insurance、Almanac of China’s Finance and Banking、China Population and Employment Statistics Yearbook、China’s environmental Yearbook. The analytic hierarchy process - entropy weight method was applied to analyze high-quality development of commercial health insurance and high-quality economic development. For study on regional disparities, the Theil index was used for the analysis. The coupling coordination degree model was constructed to measure the coupling coordinated development level. Results: (i) There were around one third regions that had achieved superior commercial health insurance development and coupling coordination between commercial health insurance and economics than national average, and most of them were in the east/coastal area. (ii) The overall improvement of coordination relationship was significantly inferior to that of commercial health insurance development, which reflects the difficulty of achieving coupling coordinated development between commercial health insurance and economics. (iii) The nationwide population-weighted Theil index decreased by around 50% over the past decade, which indicates that regional disparity has been reduced remarkably. The decomposition results indicate that the total Theil was dominated by the intra-regional difference and thus it can explain a significant portion of the overall inequality. (iv) The nationwide coupling coordination degree was quite stable before 2016, and got improved rapidly since 2017. Most regions had a low coupling coordinated development level in 2011 and 15 of them finally reached medium- or high- level in 2019. (v) The COVID-19 pandemic had obvious adverse impact on commercial health insurance development and coordination relationship between commercial health insurance and economics. Conclusion: The existing assessment is limited in that it emphasizes partially the regional disparities in an absolute sense. In contrast, the all-round assessment matrix and the coordination analysis in our study can provide decision makers with reliable measurement. It is necessary to continuously monitoring the high-quality commercial health insurance development index and the coupling coordination degree. As such, the appropriate health insurance industry policy could be developed accordingly. As the most important supplements to social security system, commercial health insurance and commercial pension scheme should serve local economic society development, effectively and efficiently.

Through the investigation of the operation mechanism and activities of Red Scarf College in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, it is found that the unique role of Red Scarf College in leading the thought of children is not enough. By means of questionnaire survey, interviews, field observation and other investigation and research methods, it is found that the main reasons for the insufficient guidance of ideological and political education for children in Red Scarf College are insufficient curriculum orientation, team stability, unclear public welfare boundary, and weak publicity strategy. To solve these problems, the following countermeasures can be adopted: to establish a top-down working mechanism by "Party team integration"; To build a series of enlightening courses of political thought with "expert gatekeeping"; To construct the internal and external integration of the disputing chapter system with "internal and external connection"; Broaden the practical education map of the Young pioneers by "co-construction + self-construction".

The Impact of Renewable Energy Consumption, Economic Growth and Exports on CO₂ Emissions in Pakistan: An ARDL Approach

    Get PDF
The dynamic relationship among CO₂ emissions and Economic factors such as renewable energy consumption, GDP growth, and exports is an important aspect in view of environmental sustainability and economic development for developing countries like Pakistan. This research aims to explore the short-term and long-term relationship between CO₂ emissions and renewable energy, GDP growth, and exports in Pakistan. by using data from the year 1991–2022 and the ARDL technique of cointegration to check both long and short-term relationships among GDP, RE, exports and CO₂ emissions. and to check the stability and robustness of the model after estimation, a range of diagnostic tests is carried out. These include descriptive statistics, unit root tests, ARDL bounds testing. The results of the ARDL analysis reveal that Increased use of renewable energy significantly reduces CO₂ emissions in both the short and long term. GDP growth is associated with increased CO₂ emissions, both currently and with a lag, indicating a persistent relationship between economic activities and carbon emissions. In the short term, increased exports are associated with a decrease in CO₂ emissions, and in the long term, exports do not significantly affect CO₂ emissions. This paper, therefore, further contributes to what the literature provides through an in-depth analysis of how economic activities and environmental impacts interplay in Pakistan, emphasizing balanced economic and ecological policies for long-term sustainability

On the Improvement of the System of Asset Reporting by Judgment Debtors

    Get PDF
Asset reporting by the judgment debtor is the most effective and fastest way to identify the assets of the judgment debtor in the enforcement procedure. However, the refusal or false reporting by the judgment debtor is a common issue that impedes the effectiveness of the asset reporting system. This article proposes several improvements to enhance the system’s efficacy. Firstly, it suggests that the insufficiency of the debtor’s assets to satisfy claims determined by valid legal instruments should be a prerequisite for the debtor’s reporting obligation, which requires court review. Secondly, it advocates for expanding the scope of the asset report to encompass all assets and changes in assets within the preceding five years from the date of the asset reporting order. Thirdly, it recommends an appropriate increase in the duration of detention for non-compliance during the asset reporting procedure. Lastly, the article calls for clarification of the judgment debtor’s right to object, as well as the conditions and scope for the petitioner for enforcement to access and inquire about the asset information obtained through court investigation

Semantic Hierarchy of English Unaccusative Verbs Based on Telicity

    Get PDF
The syntactic representation of unaccusative verb hierarchy is reflected through the use of auxiliary verbs in some languages. The choice of auxiliary verbs in syntax is not solely determined by agency and telicity at the semantic level. The semantic hierarchy of unaccusative verbs stems from the diversity of telicity, as telicity is not a traditional static point in time but rather an event’s dynamic process that projects in various combinations with dynamic processes. Thus, when unaccusative verbs are derived syntactically, they do not simply manifest in one sentence pattern but instead derive different patterns based on the choice between static and dynamic telicity. This research not only helps us understand the characteristics of telicity semantically but also assists us in exploring the relationship between telicity and the semantic hierarchy of unaccusative verbs, effectively explaining the underlying mechanisms behind the generation of various unaccusative  syntaxes
