    Factors Motivating Employee Participation in Decision-Making Process on Organisational Performance: Evidence From Osun State University, Nigeria

    Employees play a vital role in the development of an organisation’s growth and continuous existence. Employees who are incorporated in the decision-making process see themselves as an imperative member of the organisation and as such commit their skills, ideas, initiatives, and expertise to the realisation of organisational set goals and objectives. However, in most organisations today, adequate attention has not been given to the participation of personnel in critical organisational decision-making process. Therefore, this study examined factors motivating personnel participation in decision-making process using Osun State University Nigeria. The study utilised primary and secondary data and adopted a descriptive research design. Data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics. The population of the study (422) comprised academic staff, non-teaching staff and management team while 20% of the population 84 respondents were used as sample size for questionnaire administration. The findings of the study revealed that decentralisation of decision-making process, adequate feedback mechanisms, transparency, and accountability in the management of the institution, and proper clarification of procedures and rules regarding the administration of the institution among others were factors deployed for personnel involvement in decision-making process of the institution. The study concluded that employee contributions to the development of institutions cannot be undermined in today’s contemporary society. The study recommends among other bottom-to-top approaches to the implementation of the institution’s decision-making processes

    This paper attempts to explore bipolar disorder on the monster’s psyche, as a result of trauma that he develops from the society in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. This study follows the monster’s possible symptoms of bipolar disorder, and analyse them gradually, from the first stages of the disorder to more severe stages. It aims to prove the monster’s unstable mood, lack of identity, negative self-image, criminal behaviour, and suicidal thoughts in bipolar disorder symptoms’ frame. The study applies psychoanalysis, mainly the concept of bipolar disorder by Kraepelin, Falret, and Baillarger. This study follows a qualitative methodology to provide a deep analysis of the monster’s conflict with bipolar disorder on one side and the society on the other side. This concept is rarely studied on the novel from the monster’s perspective by scholars. Thus, the study’s main results are the investigation of bipolar disorder experience in the novel, and the main role of society in escalating the disorder

    An Exploration of Ivom Dance Festival of the Tiv People of Nigeria

    In Tiv society like most societies in Africa and the world in general, the primary and most general function of a festival is to renounce and then to announce culture; to renew periodically the life stream of a community by creating new energy, and to give sanctions to its institutions. In sum, a festival presents a holistic range of behavioral modalities, each related to the modalities of normal daily life. At festiva l times, people do something they normally do not; they abstain from something they normally do; they carry extreme behaviors that are usually regulated by measure; they invert patterns of daily social life. This paper is thus, a synoptic appraisal of what constitutes the world of the Ivom dance festival and how it can be treated to become a reference African theatre tradition. To this end, the paper is a product of an anthropological survey of the Ivom dance festival of the Tiv people of central Nigeria with emphasis on performance aesthetics. The methodology employed in this paper was based on the writer’s participatory-observation approach. The essentials of this paper are achieved by realizing some of the objectives of the Ivom dance festival by demonstrating the nuances of the dance performance as well as establishing the facts about its socio-cultural, and political aesthetic functions

    How “my” role is concealed or revealed: A corpus-based research of Malaysian Airline media statements

    This study adopts a corpus-based approach by creating two sub corpus comprising official media statements released by Malaysian Airline regarding its two captioned aeronautic incidents, namely MH370 and MH17 outbroke in the year 2014. Critical discourse analysis and systemic functional linguistics as two analytical frameworks empowered the corpus-based approach. Very distinctive self-portraits of Malaysian Airline in these two incidents have been found through the analysis of key wording, collocations and occurrence of wording. This study suggests that the deliberate choice of wording in media discourse by text producer is affected by its role in positioning in the regarding incidents.  A combination use of different linguistic analytical frameworks can help us to understand how the hidden meaning by the text producer is implicitly mentioned or explicitly expressed through the passage of wording

    The Contributions of Modern Islamic Schools Towards the Growth of Arabic Language: A Case Study of Lokoja, Kogi State

    Language is an essential mechanism that fills the emptiness of communication gap. Arabic language is undisputable universal and acceptable language in the world given its connection with the fastest growing religion in the world. Therefore, there is no gainsaying the fact that the genesis and evolution of the language in Nigeria and Lokoja in particular has an enormous relationship with the introduction of Islam into the domains. The paper examines the contribution of the modern Islamic Schools to the growth of Arabic Language in Lokoja, as it investigates the diverse pedagogical methods used in disseminating the knowledge. It examines the challenges encountered during the exercise. Findings of this research, states that modern Islamic schools have displayed an enormous role in the growth of Arabic language, facilitating a topnotch learning atmosphere for the beginner of Arabic in the school to develop fast assimilation through the curriculum. It is recommended that, the school should organize a symposium on the important of Arabic language in the religion, society and the lucrative advantages imbibe in it. In addition, Arabic text should be substantiated with transliteration to assist the assimilation and learning process. However, care should be taken not to let that overrule the original Arabic text. In conclusion, the modern Islamic Schools contributed to the Arabic language to the level that you will come across who never precede higher institution to be a good translator
