A Study on the Source Domain Cognition of Love Metaphors in Yao Folk Songs
Using folk hand-copied text of Yao folk songs collected from Yao counties and Yao townships around Hezhou City as corpus, this study explores the diversity of the source domain of love metaphors in them. Research has shown that due to ethnic integration, the metaphorical origin of love in Yao folk songs has diverse and regional characteristics. The origin of love not only comes from the cultural traditions of the Yao ethnic group itself, but also from the animals and plants, love tokens, and agricultural products and other daily necessities in the production as well as the living environment of the Han ethnic group. The expression of love in Yao folk songs tends to be implicit and concise. Besides, the diversity of love metaphor sources reflects the rich and colorful culture of the Yao ethnic group
Exploring the Representation of Gender Roles and Patriarchal Norms in Pakistani Society through a Feminist Lens: A Critical Analysis of Shazaf Fatima Haider’s Novel “How It Happened” (2012)
The study has been carried out to evaluate Shazaf Fatima Haider’s novel “How It Happened” in order to examine the impact of socially and culturally imposed gender norms on the lives of women in Pakistan, as well as the role of matriarchy in oppressing women. The research approach employed for this study is qualitative, involving the collection of pertinent information from academic journals, textbooks, and online resources. The gathered text has undergone meticulous examination using the approach of close textual analysis. In the pertinent chapters, the material has been gathered and organized into contrasted categories. The selected text has been analyzed using the sociological theory of Gender Socialization, which serves as the theoretical framework. The present study aims to enhance comprehension of how Pakistani authors see the overarching notion of gender roles in Pakistani culture. Society and culture exert significant influence on women’s lives through the imposition of socially and culturally established gender standards. The impact of gender stereotypes on women’s life varies and detrimentally affects their mental well-being. In addition, the matriarch (Dadi) in the given literature assumes the position of a patriarch and imposes socially and culturally defined gender norms on the women within a particular family setting. The study examines the strategies employed by the matriarchs to subdue other women
Viewing Literacy Development of Adult Learner Through the Lenses of a Widened Social Context
Adult learning is one of the major parts in literacy education. Previously, most of the academic researchers had been carried out on the basis of cognitive perspective. It is necessary to study adult learners’ literacy and orality in social context. With the aim to investigate the relation between learning literacy and social context, it is found that adult learners are largely situated in the social context. Adults of 25-34, 35-44, and 45-54 age groups are more likely to study literacy, who, however, have few opportunities in writing practice
A Case Analysis of Disfluency in English-to-Chinese Simultaneous Interpreting Based on the Effort Model
Disfluency is quite common for student interpreters in simultaneous interpreting (SI), which is regarded as a critical parameter for interpreting quality. Therefore, it is of great significance to study disfluency in SI. Based on Gile’s Effort Model, the thesis aims to shed light on causes to disfluency in SI by conducting a case study of the interpreting project on 2020 International Commercial and Legal Cooperation Forum. With reference to the classification system of interpreting disfluency proposed by Dai Zhaohui, the author summarizes three major manifestations of disfluency in SI: pauses, repetitions and self-repairs. Under the guidance of Gile’s Effort Model, interpreting performance deteriorates if processing capacity requirements exceed its supply. The author analyzes the problem triggers of disfluency from the perspective of cognitive overload, which involves Listening and Analysis Effort, Memory Effort, Production Effort and Coordination Effort. To be specific, it is attributed to the fact that the required processing capacity in Listening and Analysis Effort, Memory Effort, Production Effort and Coordination Effort exceeds the available one. Finally, the author proposes technical and non-technical coping strategies with an aim to improve delivery fluency in SI.

This study identified instructional delivery methods and determined the problems associated with the delivery of entrepreneurship education in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), particularly in Osun State, Nigeria. The study adopted the quantitative research design using survey approach. The population for the study consisted 48 lecturers and 2,384 students across the three HEIs owned by Osun State government. The sample was made up of 361 purposively selected respondents based on the courses offered and taught. This comprised 333 students offering one or more entrepreneurship education courses and 28 lecturers teaching entrepreneurship education courses from three HEIs in Osun state. The Entrepreneurship Education Instructional Delivery Questionnaire (EEID-Q) was used to elicit information from entrepreneurship education lecturers and students. Data gathered were analyzed using percentages. The results showed lectures and seminars (75%) as well as technology-enhanced learning (50%) as the predominant methods for teaching entrepreneurship education. It also showed the problems associated with the delivery of entrepreneurship education in Osun State HEIs. These include poor implementation of entrepreneurship education policies 327(90.5%), inadequate funding 325(89.9%), poor orientation and sensitisation for students 322(89.1%), non-inclusion of entrepreneurship education at basic level of education 319(88.3%), as well as infrastructural deficiency 315(87.2%). Consequently, it was recommended that student-centered instructional methods should be employed by entrepreneurship education lecturers to ensure effective delivery of the course. Government should also increase budgetary allocation to her HEIs to be able to establish and adequately equip entrepreneurial development centers for practical work and provide adequate training/instructional materials for the course, giving its relevance to graduate self-employment in this era of rising youth unemployment
Independence National Electoral Commission and 2019 General Elections in Nigeria: Election Monitoring and Observation
Election monitoring and observation occupied a priority of place as both a statutory mandate and policy of the Independence National Electoral Commission (INEC). In Nigeria the study examined and appraised the election monitoring and observation by both the domestic and international observers, and the lesions learnt vis-à-vis the 2019 General Elections in Nigeria. And considering the nature of this study, a single case ex post facto research design that was basically qualitative in character was employed. Therefore, primary data were analyzed thematically while the secondary data were sourced from publications. The data were subsequently analyzed using content analysis. Findings of the study revealed that despite the presence of the election and observation groups to oversee the 2019 General Elections, its essence to guarantee transparency, integrity and credibility in accordance with the universal best practices were not reflected in the elections’ results. The international press conference organized by the monitoring and observer groups at the end of each election, and the final election Reports submitted to the INEC and Federal Government indicated that diverse election irregularities and compromise were found not to reflect on the outcome of the 2019 General Elections, even the judicial election judgments. The implication of the above is that the Nigerian masses have not actually seen the democratic value of the election observation in the country as a result of electoral impunity or compromise by the election stakeholders. It was not, therefore, surprised the criticism, cynicisms, violence and protracted legal battles that followed the 2019 General Elections. In the light of the above, the study recommended the need for political will and sincerity by the stakeholders to faithfully comply with the implementation of the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended) to ensure universal best practices in subsequent elections in Nigeria. This shall smoothly facilitate election monitoring and observation in the future in country

Readers can analyze the structure and the central idea of the whole passage, find out the author’s train of thought and improve the competence and speed of utterance comprehension
