Bone and antler objects from the high and late Middle Ages
This study lists published bone and antler objects that have been found in Czech territory and fall in the period of the high and late Middle Ages. The list is the first compiled for Czech territory, and it might thus seem that objects made of this material from the observed period were rarely found in this country, or not at all. However, the list of different groups of artefacts shows that objects made of hard animal materials were part of everyday life in medieval society. Last but not least, the paper examines the production materials (bone and antler) and their availability in the period under stud
Absurdita a persifláž v súčasnej slovenskej a českej opernej tvorbe
Contemporary theatrical work often reflects the artists' sceptical view of the relationship between man and the world, or the frustration of the individual existing amidst negative forces outside and within himself, against which he cannot effectively define himself or escape. The present text, using a selected sample of works from Slovak and Czech operas of the 21st century, explores the means based on the poetics of absurd and post-dramatic theatre, which authors use to convey a sense of meaninglessness, banality, and the hopelessness of life, and/or use them in the sense of persiflage, caricature, or nonsense. The author of the study identifies them in the sense of expressing the creators' attitude to the state of society, also in the musical-dramaturgical structure of individual opuses. She also examines them in the relation of the creators to opera as a music-dramatic art, which is, on the one hand, connected with the past, but on the other hand, is created and reciprocated in the current time.Súčasná divadelná tvorba často odráža skeptický pohľad umelcov na vzťah človeka a sveta či frustráciu jedinca existujúceho uprostred negatívnych síl mimo neho i v ňom samotnom, proti ktorým sa mu nedarí účinne vymedziť alebo im uniknúť.

Grit and Competence among Swimming Coaches in the Philippines: An Explanatory-Sequential Inquiry
The concept of grit has been understudied in the local literature in the Philippines compared to other international nations. Furthermore, studies that focused on grit to swimming coaches has not yet been documented. In this regard, this research probes the dynamic relationship between grit and competence among swimming coaches (n=207) of Central Luzon Philippines, aiming to analyze the impact of these key factors on coaching effectiveness and athlete development. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews, to gather data from a diverse sample of experienced swimming coaches in the Region. Quantitative measures will assess coaches' levels of grit through the Grit Scale and self-perceived competence through the Coaching Competency Scale, while qualitative insights will provide a deeper understanding of the challenges faced and strategies employed in the demanding field of swimming coaching. As hypothesized, results from this research revealed that Grit influences Coaching Competency (F(3, 203) = 20.251, p <.001). However, Ambition did not register a significant relationship to Coaching Competency (β = .141, t = .889, p = .375). Coaches are very willing and highly enthusiastic in sharing the knowledge and skills to their swimmers towards improving their athletic abilities. Amidst adversities, coaches defined their resiliency in developing strategies to cope. Central Luzon coaches share their vision to their athletes towards achieving their goals through motivational strategies towards productive transformation. Lastly, coaches share the importance of serving as a role model towards improving motivation, game strategies, technique and character building of swimmers. Results of the study may be used to formulate programs for further enhancements on coaches’ grit and competencies. It is recommended to conduct parallel researches to other regions in the Philippines and other nations
On the 90-year tradition of studying and teaching the history of Eastern and South-Eastern Europe in Brno
This analytical article, based on sources and primary literature, discusses the traditions that led to the establishment of the field of Eastern and Southeastern European history at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University in Brno and in non-university research environments. It focuses on the scientific, organisational, pedagogical and professional activities of Professor Josef Macůrek (1901–1992), the creator of a unique concept of the history of Eastern and Southeastern Europe and the founder of a scientific school that developed it at university and non-university institutions even after Macůrek was forced to leave the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences for political reasons at the beginning of normalisation, and then Masaryk University
