Affective orientation in Sarah Kane's 4.48 Psychosis

    No full text
This article explores the affective resonance of Sara Kane's 4.48 Psychosis and its sociopolitical implications. Through the works of Sara Ahmed and Lauren Berlant it proposes a theoretical framework that focuses on affective objects and how they shape the affective orientation of the text. It also studies the figure of the affect alien and the notion of impasse to analyse how they define the affective environment of the play. Finally, the corporeality of affect is taken into account to better understand how Kane's text connects with the reader, affectively orienting them alongside its protagonist in order to reinforce the critique guided by the narrative voice

Facilitating Reflective Inquiries into Dialogic Practices as Part of Vocational School Teachers' Professional Development

    No full text
The study was conducted as part of a project to integrate reflective inquiry around dialogic teaching practices into university courses for teachers of Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET) in Switzerland. The initiative employed a toolkit for this purpose known as T-SEDA. The study explored the challenges, need for support, and mutual roles related to lecturers' involvement in practitioner-led inquiry. A design-based research approach was implemented in two phases linked to in-service courses: the first with five teachers of different subjects, the second with 13 teachers of General Culture. The course monitoring tools (interviews, surveys, teachers' artifacts, and the researcher's logbook) generated data on the lecturer's facilitation and the teachers' learning experiences. Support needs were identified, materials were developed, and the importance of face-to-face supervision was recognized, especially for an initial dialogic activity to begin observation of practice. The findings highlighted a shift from the traditional lecturer role of trainer to a facilitator role, an increase in perceived agency on the part of VPET teachers, and the overall feasibility of integrating the T-SEDA approach into university-based courses for VPET teachers. The research resulted in the design of new courses, allowing for individualized and self-directed teacher professional development in the context of highly standardized VPET requirement frameworks. It has implications for the enhancement of a reflective approach in the professional development of VPET teachers, showing possible strategies and tools for balancing external guidance – mainly for the design of dialogic activities – and teacher autonomy when defining the focus of inquiry and interpreting collected data. The study was conducted as part of a project to integrate reflective inquiry around dialogic teaching practices into university courses for teachers of Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET) in Switzerland. Caring Leadership and Teacher Well-Being : Perceptual Differences Between Less and More Experienced Teachers

    No full text
Teacher well-being (TWB) is a key contributor to teachers' professional commitment and job satisfaction and to student achievement. Research has highlighted the influence of leadership, workplace relationships, and financial reward on TWB; the interrelationships between these factors remain underexplored. This study employs network analysis to explore the structural relationships between TWB, caring leadership, co-worker support, and compensation, with a particular focus on differences in perceptions as a function of teaching experience. A latent network analysis was conducted on survey data from 520 Czech primary and secondary school teachers, with the aim of examining the structural relationships between latent constructs. Additionally, an item-level network analysis explored the associations between TWB and caring leadership at a more detailed level. The results suggest that caring leadership is a central construct that facilitates the connection between TWB and workplace relationships. Notably, while most relationships were positive, weaker links were found between payment and other variables, suggesting their peripheral role in shaping TWB. Furthermore, a distinction was observed between less and more experienced teachers, with the former group perceiving stronger associations between caring leadership and wellbeing. The findings emphasize the pivotal role of caring leadership in promoting TWB and highlight how teaching experience shapes perceptions of workplace support.Teacher well-being (TWB) is a key contributor to teachers' professional commitment and job satisfaction and to student achievement. Political Thought in the Planetary Situation of the Anthropocene

    No full text
The subject of this study is an investigation into the possibility of establishing a new mode of political thought (political theory) under the conditions of the Anthropocene. The basic principle at play is that the typical civilizational thought of the Western (Atlantic) culture – as embodied in technology – is creating a worldwide situation with no simple avenues for escape. The Westerner has turned his thoughts and reason away from a wisdom leading to harmony, but instead towards deconstruction and destruction, a devastation whose consequences will be a slow, painful, but unavoidable annihilation. This single form of human rationality is responsible for the pillaging of the natural and social environment; it is a form painstakingly protected, privileged and nurtured from the start of European modernism. Capitalism’s economic, technological and demographic growth has had unintended ecological and civilisational consequences with catastrophic cumulative effects on the environment

Does the matter matter? : on purpose, mantras and substances in the Ba ri be'u bum

    No full text
This article examines Tibetan private practical rituals through the lens of materiality, understood as tangibility. While recent scholarship has investigated Tibetan collections of such rituals — often labelled as 'magic' — most analyses remain primarily descriptive and qualitative. To address this gap, the study adopts a quantitative perspective, focusing on tangible and intangible components of rituals, conceived as vehicles for achieving their purpose. After introducing relevant terminology and historical context, the structure and purpose-based categorisation of the analysed rituals are outlined. The analysis draws on 54 rituals from the renowned "spellbook" Ba ri be'u bum, attributed to Rinchen Drak (Rin chen grags), also known as Bari Lotsāwa (1040–1112). Findings indicate that tangibility is predominant — though not exclusive — while intangible components are significant. Rituals aimed at swift, practical results favour tangible elements, whereas those involving preternatural beings, such as for wealth or weather control, show a more balanced tangible-to-intangible ratio

Really Independent? Biographies and Typology of Non-Partisan Presidential Candidates in Europe

    No full text
This research article examines the relatively unresearched area in political science – the non-partisanship in the presidential election in Europe after 1989. Although the apparent clarity of the concept was shown, the phenomenon of non-partisan candidacy is not so clear, and it largely relates to party politics. The analysis introduces the composition of this group of candidates for the office of the head of state in terms of age, education, previous political skills and gender. At the same time, I identified five main types of non-partisan candidates based on their partisan background and their real status at the time of the election. Combining these two factors, it was proved that the phenomenon cannot be examined as a separate question. The analysis shows the complexity of the phenomenon. At the same time, the heterogeneity of the phenomenon is connected with a different level of the party system institutionalisation (PSI), but not so much as would be expected

Body Height Development Among Successful Elite Tennis Players (2004–2023)

    Get PDF
Game performance is influenced by somatic factors such as body height. The aim of this study is to examine the developmental trend of body height in elite male and female tennis players at Grand Slam tournaments between 2004 and 2023. The research sample consisted of players who reached the quarterfinals of Grand Slam tournaments from 2004 to 2023. The results showed an overall trend of increasing body height among male players who reached the quarterfinals of Grand Slams. However, the differences between individual Grand Slams (surfaces) in the most recent period (2019-2023) were found to be statistically insignificant and negligible. In women, the results were more variable, and no similar trend of increasing body height among successful players could be observed as seen in men. This study provides insights into the development of physical traits in the best tennis players, which influence their performance. The data obtained shows developmental trends recognized by tennis experts and may be useful for coaching practice in elite tennis, potentially also in the selection of young tennis talents
