The Impact of Concurrent Training on Young, Recreationally Active Men

The modern athlete must develop strength and endurance to reach the maximum performance potential. The training incorporating both modalities (strength and endurance) is called concurrent training. It is often accompanied by an interference effect, meaning that endurance training negatively impacts strength-related outcomes (power, strength, hypertrophy). We examined whether concurrent training impedes strength training adaptation compared to strength training alone. We conducted a randomised parallel-group study with repeated measurements. Twenty young, recreationally active men were included in the study and randomised to concurrent or strength training groups; fifteen participants completed the 11-week study protocol (including pre-test, training intervention, mid-test, and post-test). Both groups improved maximal strength pre-to-post (1 RM bench press and squat), both p < 0.001, with no statistical difference between groups (p = 0.362 for squat and p = 0.892 for bench press). Maximum anaerobic power (Wingate test (peak power, W)) also increased pre to post in both groups (both p < 0.05) with no differences between groups (p = 0.892). Both groups experienced an increase in lean body mass measured by DXA scan (both p < 0.05) with no between-groups differences (p = 0.999). Thus, the results indicate the potential for concurrent training to yield similar improvements in strength-related outcomes as strength training in recreationally active young men

This study aims to examine the biomotor characteristics and vital lung capacity of Indonesian elite para-badminton athletes. Methods: This study used an observational method with a quantitative descriptive design. The research subjects were Indonesian elite para badminton athletes with SL3, SL4, SU5, and SS6 standing player classifications. It involved 14 participants, 9 men and 5 women. Each subject performed three stages of tests. The first stage was anthropometric measurements. The second stage measured biomotor characteristics consisting of strength, power, flexibility, speed, and agility. The third step measured vital lung capacity. Results: The average value of biomotor characteristics on arm muscle strength, leg muscle strength, flexibility, and leg muscle power fell into normal categories, while speed and agility were classified as poor. The vital lung capacity of Indonesian elite badminton athletes had FVC and FEV1 below the normal average, and there was no significant difference between male and female athletes. Conclusion: This study revealed that the biomotor characteristics of male athletes were better in arm muscle strength, leg muscle strength, leg muscle power, and speed. Meanwhile, female athletes showed better results in flexibility, agility, and vital lung capacity.

Selected Correlations of Sexting among Secondary School Students and Young Adults

This article discusses sexting as a form of cyberbullying and its selected correlations in three groups: secondary school students, university students, and adults aged 18–45. Research conducted between 2020 and 2025 revealed that the phenomenon of sexting has changed over time, that there are differences between the sexes, and that protective and risk factors vary depending on the age of the respondents. Analyses of gender differences showed that girls experience sexting significantly more often. There were different patterns of relationships between age and sexting: among secondary school students, the frequency increased with age, while among university students and adults it decreased. The results concerning personality traits showed that among secondary school students, sexting was associated with openness to experience, and among adults with lower conscientiousness. The key predictor was the educational functionality of the family of origin: lower functionality was associated with more frequent sexting among school pupils and adults. The results confirm the relationship between sexting and age, which implies the need to adapt preventive measures to the stage of life and the specific psychosocial functioning of the groups studied

Greek intellectual life and literary production in the context of Ioannis Metaxas's régime (1936-1941)

    No full text
The close monitoring of every artistic and intellectual movement by Metaxas's dictatorship has repeatedly been discussed. Th is monitoring was not achieved only in a direct way, i.e. through the imprisonment of intellectuals, book burnings or state censorship, but also by the implementation of various indirect tactics. All these tactics targeted to the limitation of negative reactions by the then Greek intelligentsia – or, at least, to stifle direct protest against the régime. Simultaneously, many bourgeois writers and artists seem either to had grown weary due to the very long political instability and social division, and to had become skeptical about the further strengthening of the left wing, or they were undoubtedly plunged into a greater confusion, viewing the development of a sharp patriotic (if not nationalistic) rhetoric which was identifi ed with the rise of totalitarian and authoritarian régimes throughout the world. In any case, any pertinent evidence needs to be carefully studied, on the one hand to explore the literary and intellectual interests of Metaxas himself, and on the other hand to clarify his personal views and the relationships of the 4th of August régime with intellectuals and artists, as well as of these latter with the dictator and the program of his administration. Furthermore, all this needs to be placed within the context of the actions of Metaxas's régime, the way it was ruthlessly harsh on followers of the left, especially the communists, thousands of whom were sent to prison or into exile. At the same time, the seeming support of those who took up public positions needs careful analysis: each individual writer and artist had mixed motives and often considerable ambivalence, and each case needs exploration in its own terms

Literature museums and memorials in Moravia are significant institutions that preserve and present the region's rich literary heritage. This article summarizes the findings of research focused on five selected representatives of Moravian literature museum institutions: the Otokar Březina Museum, the Department of the History of Literature of the Moravian Museum, the Jiří Wolker permanent exhibition and Memorial House of Petr Bezruč at the Museum and Gallery in Prostějov, and the Mahen Memorial in Brno. Based on an analysis of selected case studies, the article outlines key aspects of their historical development, collecting activities, presentation and educational work, and staffing. The main aim is to characterize literary museology in Moravia and to identify general challenges, such as financial and staffing limitations, insufficient digitization, and difficulties in engaging younger audiences. In an era of increasing digitization and changing audience expectations, it is essential to seek new ways of bringing literary heritage closer to contemporary generations through innovative approaches. The findings reveal a diversity of approaches to presenting literary heritage, ranging from traditional static exhibitions to modern displays based on artificial intelligence

Dos in the comedies of Plautus

    No full text
The aim of the paper is to identify and interpret the references to dowry in the comedies of T. Maccius Plautus (ca. 254–184 BCE). Plautus has traditionally been regarded as a valuable source for the pre-classical Roman law, as most of the preserved Roman legal texts are from the classical, postclassical and Justinianic era. Since Plautus adapted new Attic comedies, his works have intermixed Greek and Roman elements, which poses a challenge from the interpretative perspective. The paper offers a short introduction into the evolution of dowry in Greek and Roman world and then proceeds to the analysis of the use of lexeme "dos" and its derivates in the comedies of Plautus. Based on higher frequency of attested use of these lexemes in two comedies, Trinummus and Aulularia are singled out for a more detailed analysis, followed by a more general examination of the remaining plays

The Miracula beate Marie Visitacionis of John of Jenstein : the circumstances of their creation and preservation

    No full text
The article focuses on extant examples of a collection of miracles associated with the feast of the Visitation (Miracula beate Marie Visitacionis) which was written by the third Archbishop of Prague, John of Jenstein (died 1400). Based on a paleographic, codicological and textual analysis of four manuscripts which include the text of this work, the authors show that Miracula beate Marie Visitacionis has been preserved in two versions – Jenstein's own version (as a separate work) and a modified version (forming part of a work entitled Institucio festivitatis Visitacionis). The article presents the main differences between these two versions of the text of Miracula beate Marie Visitacionis, characterises their relationship, and describes the circumstances, in which Jenstein's miracle collection was created

"To be allowed to have a story of one's own someday." : multiperspectivism as a postcolonial narrative strategy in Sharon Dodua Otoo's "Ada's Realm"

    No full text
This paper argues that Sharon Dodua Otoo's novel Adas Raum (2021) employs multiperspectivism as a postcolonial narrative strategy to explore colonial history, identity, and power structures by amplifying marginalized voices. This way, the novel challenges hegemonic (hi-)storytelling, especially the dominance of colonial discourse in German-language post-/neocolonial literature. Through a combination of autodiegetic, heterodiegetic, and non-human narrators, the novel interweaves polyphonic storytelling with metafictional reflection on the opportunities and limitations of these narrative perspectives. By situating Adas Raum within both postcolonial studies and narratological frameworks, this analysis highlights the significance of postcolonial narratology in reimagining historical representation through literary voice

Fraisenschlüssel or Gnadenschlüssel? : a medicinal amulet or a sign of devotion and pilgrimage found in the crypt of the Church of St. Nicholas the Bishop in Žumberak (Croatia)

There were only two coffin burials inside the crypt of the Roman Catholic Church of St. Nicholas the Bishop in Žumberak (Croatia), and in one of them an older noblewoman was buried. Besides other grave goods, a wooden rosary was placed in her hands or around one of her palms. Three pendants hung form it, a small cross, a pilgrimage medal, and a pendant in the form of a key. Since such key-shaped pendants had a dual meaning in German-speaking lands, medicinal, and religious, the main aim of this paper is to define which of these meanings was dominant in the case of this specific burial
