    Understanding Delinquency as a Sequel of Father–Son Relationship

    Fathers are indispensable in the lives of children. They are responsible in the nurturing and grooming of children and they enable the children go through a smooth transition into adulthood. They play versatile roles at different stages of their life as role models. As a father, he is invested with a responsibility to bring up the child, inculcating discipline and values by demonstrating love and concern. Unfortunately, many children are not privileged to experience the love of the father in their life either because of his absence or due to the negative traits exhibited by him that make their life traumatising. This study was conducted to understand the impact of such relationship from the child offender’s perspective of their father. Adolescent boys, lodged in observation homes in Assam, were interviewed from a constructivist approach using grounded theory methodology to explore what they perceived about their father. Crucial categories emerged from their sharing, ranging from a responsible to an aggressive father whose absence left a void in their lives and whose presence led to an embittered relationship. Effective parenting skills and alternative care programmes to strengthen the relationship between the child and the father, and also creating support systems to ensure that children grow up in the protective environment of the family are emphasized in the study

    Under suitable conditions and appropriate management practices, the soil can be a good reservoir for terrestrial carbon. If the carbon-retention capacity of soil can be improved it will lead to a corresponding reduction of carbon in the atmosphere and will improve the situation arising from release of carbon to the atmosphere and subsequent global warming. However, agricultural practices, if not properly managed, can result in release of a large amount of carbon stored in soil to the atmosphere aggravating the situation.     The study of impact of Psychological Capital on work attitude and commitment

    This project is the result of the study conducted on “The study of the impact of psychological capital on the employees work attitude and commitment.â€Â In today’s ever-changing world, effective management of human resources is a necessity, but is accompanied with differing management philosophies and methods. This study addresses the growing body of psychological capital research, defined as a positive situation for personal development with the features of self-reliance while dealing with the challenges (self-efficacy), positive expectations for the future success (optimism), being full of determination (hope), and accomplishment in spite of obstacles (resilience).   Based on a review of pertinent literature and theory, this study aims to examine all Psychological Capital concepts with employee’s commitment towards to the organization. The greatest source of references is management literature   specifically related to Psychological Capital and its management. Due to increasing psychological capital approach in organizations, the study aimed to evaluate the effects of psychological capital on organizational commitment. The study population consisted of employees from both the government sector as well as the private organizations located in Shillong, Meghalaya. The study population size is 200 people out of which the sample size used in the study is 165 people. The private organizations in which the study was conducted include Aircel (North East Circle) and Idea (Zonal Office). The Government sectors included in the study comprised of NEEPCO (North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd, MBDA (Meghalaya Basin Development Authority, Department of Fisheries, Department of Water Resources, Department of Labor and Employment and the Forest Department.  Respondents were across a range of demographics including gender, age, and nature of work, educational qualification and years of service to the organization. The questionnaire administered was a culmination of 5 standard questionnaires which measured the four constructs of psychological capital (Hope, Self-efficacy, Resilience and Optimism) and Employee’s Commitment towards the organization.The primary objective of the study is to prove that there is a significant relationship between psychological capital and Commitment. The Psychological Capital was taken as the independent variable, whereas Commitment was observed as the dependent variable. Having determined the variables in the study, the hypothesis was formed. The study also included secondary objectives which focussed on finding a significant relationship for each respective psychological construct with overall commitment and analysis of data collected around the demographics of the sample and come to some conclusion with regards to psychological capital and overall commitment. For the analysis, SPSS statistics software and Microsoft Excel were used. The analysis carried out included the test for reliability, the regression test and the correlation test. A reliability test was carried out to determine the internal consistency of the administered questionnaire. Here the Cronbach’s alpha showed a satisfactory value indicating a good reliability. To test the hypothesis, regression was used and from the results of the analysis it was observed that psychological capital had no significant relationship with employee’s commitment. However, the results of the secondary objectives showed a different result. Here the analysis observed optimism as one of the psychological construct displaying a significant relationship with commitment. Also, when the individual components of psychological capital were analyzed with individual components of commitment, it was observed that Optimism and Self-efficacy displayed a significant relationship with normative commitment. For Continuance commitment, none of the four constructs showed a significant relationship with the dependent variable. For Affective commitment as well, all constructs except for optimism showed a significant relationship with Affective commitment.  However, the R square value was very low for all those factors that had a significant relationship with commitment indicating that a low percentage of change in the dependent variable can be attributed to changes in the independent variable. In some fields, it is entirely expected that R square values will be low, especially in fields that attempt to predict human behavior such as psychology as humans are simply harder to predict

    A study at NE-SAC, Umiam of Rain Attenuation to Ka-Band signals has been made with ISRO’s GSAT-14 Satellite carrying two Ka-Band beacons at 20.2 Ghz and 30.5 Ghz and with the help of instruments like High Gain receiving antennas; Humidity Profiler Radiometer, Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge , GPS antenna etc.. The study has been a joint collaboration of ISRO and CNES/ONERA, the French Aerospace Lab. The study comprises simultaneous signal attenuation and rainfall recording of a time period ranging from Pre-Monsoon to Post –Monsoon season at Umiam, from March to October for the year 2016

    Environmental Applications of Nanotechnology: A Review

    Nanotechnology is an incipient technology for scientific development and holds a great potential for the continued improvement of environmental protection technologies. Environmental problems such as air pollution, water pollution and excessive consumption of natural resources are some of the formidable challenges faced by the communities globally. Application of nanotechnology is receiving more attention on environmental protection and is being applied in the areas of water treatment, wastewater treatment, groundwater remediation, soil remediation and waste management, etc. The volume of nanomaterials and nanoproducts has been anticipated to grow dramatically in the near future and the effective management of nano-waste is of great concern. “This paper reviews the application of nanomaterials for addressing environmental problems.†It also highlights the challenges and priorities for responsible management of nano-waste. From the literature analysis, it can be inferred that the technologies like nano zero valent ion, titanium dioxide, carbon nanotubes and metallic nanoparticles are greatly implemented across diverse areas of the environment. It is surmised that there exists a need for the development of adequate regulatory policy on the management of nanomaterial risk. Further, research needs to be conducted to study the life cycle of the nanomaterials and their impact on health and environment

    TCAD based modeling and simulation of Graphene Nanostructured FET (GFET) for High Frequency Performance

     In this paper, the modeling of a Graphene based Field Effect Transistor(GFET) is presented. The modeling is done using the SILVACO TCAD tools. The structure is developed in ATLAS virtual framework and the model is used to investigate the performance of graphene based FET. First we deposit 5nm thick polysilycon film instead of graphene film to generate the device structure. Graphene is modeled as a semiconductor, a carrier mobility of 10,000 cm2/V-s and used as the channel material. The characteristics curves: output characteristic and transfer curve are plotted using TONYPLOT. Pristine graphene has no band gap. So it is considered as semi-metal or zero bandgapsemiconductor. Due to the lack of bandgap, ION/IOFF is relatively low compared to the Silicon based transistor, so for digital logic circuits, GFET still lags behind comparing to Si transistors. It is more suitable for RF application with its very high mobility. Therefore, in this paper, the parameters which are considered to the FOMs of RF transistors i.e. maximum cut off frequency (fT) and the maximum frequencies of oscillations (fmax) are extracted
