    Detection of underground mining induced land subsidence using Differential Interferometric SAR (D-InSAR) in Jharia coalfields

    Mining induced land subsidence is very common in the areas of extensive underground coal mining which affects the overall geo-environmental scenario of the area. Jharia coalfields in Jharkhand has been experiencing land subsidence for several decades essentially due to underground mining and coal fire. Differential interferometric SAR (D-InSAR) technique has been used widely to identify and measure land subsidence. In this study, six ALOS PALSAR data pairs acquired during 2007-2008 were used to study land subsidence phenomenon in the Jharia coalfields. Two-pass D-InSAR was used in this study which uses two SAR images of the same area taken at different times to calculate the Line-of-Sight (LOS) path difference of a target point due to land displacement with the help of an external Digital Elevation Model (DEM). Well defined subsidence fringes were obtained in most of the differential interferogram pairs. The fringe areas were integrated to obtain the total subsidence affected areas during the observation period with rates of subsidence (in cm/year). The maximum subsidence rate calculated from D-InSAR processing is found to be 56.72 cm/yr and the minimum is 7.88 cm/yr. The total affected area in the study area is 7.2 sq kms. Field checks were done for confirmation of D-InSAR based subsidence results

    Aegle marmelos fruit pulp is medicinally important, cures diabetes and different part of it has been used generally as a remedy for gastrointestinal infections, anaemia, fractures, asthama, healing of swollen joints, controlling blood pressure, jundice as well as many more problems of human. In this study we want to reveal a comparative study of the antioxidant potentials of Aegle marmelos fruit pulp extracts in different solvents available in Kokrajhar area. Standard methods were adopted to screen antioxidant and phytochemical nature of A. marmelos fruit pulp and results are compared of.Â

    A Conceptual Model for Determining Factors Influencing Online Purchasing Behavior

    The world over, with the increase use of the internet, online commerce is also witnessing a huge jump. It is mainly because online retailing offers a lot of advantages for the consumer in terms of convenience, options, anytime, easy accessibility and so. However, it does suffer from some disadvantages in the form of say the physical absence of the product, security risks, privacy concern, non-delivery risks and so on. But still then, online retailing is growing at an unstoppable speed. And with this understanding of factors influencing online purchase behavior becomes more and more serious matter.  Researchers have been exploring online consumer behavior for many years and two widely accepted views stand out in the e-commerce literatures: consumer-oriented and technology oriented view. The consumer oriented view places focus on consumers’ salient beliefs about online shopping, whereas the technology-oriented view studies the impact of website design and usability on consumers’ behavior. Most of the researches are based on Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Theory of Planned Behavior to understand the behavior of online consumers.  However, India, a country where internet penetration is still low, becomes a different case altogether. Though the number of people using the internet is increasing, e-commerce is not witnessing a proportionate increase. The question in the case of Indian customers is of Adoption of online retailing i.e. what are the factors that influences consumers to shop or not to shop in Internet.  Thus, in that sense it can be seen as just an issue of New Product Adoption process, considering online retailing as just a new product for offering services to the consumers.   This study is done to incorporate the product adoption process model with the research models of TAM/TPB and others, to provide a comprehensive roadmap for further studies. The model ‘Online Shopping Adoption Model’, suggested here incorporates the major findings of studies done on consumer behavior in India and abroad

    A Review on Optimal Operation of Distributed Network Embedded to Wind-Battery Storage System

    Energy is a vital requirement for today’s socio-economic welfare and development. But due to the continuous increase of the demand the conventional energy resources are depleting day by day and on the verge of extinction. Hence more renewable generation units are emphasised to integrate to the power network to supply the required demand. This incorporation of the distributed generation into the distributed network has the advantages of controllability, flexibility and tremendous potential if it can be exploited properly. However, due to their intermittent and unpredictable nature, there is a need for energy storages to ensure continuous operations, i.e., to meet the load all the time. There are many possible options for energy storage, but the most popular and technologically sound option is battery storage. Along with this battery storage system (BSS), a power conditioning system (PCS) has to be connected for generation of both active and reactive power from the BSS which in turn increases the overall installation cost of BSS. Moreover, the energy storage cost is a function of the storage device power, energy capacities and their specific costs depending on the chosen technology of optimization. Thus, profit from those renewable energy producers have to be maximized, and losses are to be minimized by using dynamic optimization techniques. But along with the advantages there comes the complexities due to the inclusion of distributed generation and the additional energy storages in the power system network. Moreover, it is highly critical to operate the vast system optimally. Hence there are lots of research had been done or are in process for finding the proper approach of optimization of the system. This paper presents a review of the current state of the optimization methods applied to renewable and sustainable energy source embedded with the Energy storage for maximization of the revenue obtained from the power trading to the network

    Mainstream Gender and Development Concepts and Theories at the Interface with Local Knowledge Systems: Some Theoretical Reflections

    The field of gender and development has been marked in recent years by extensive debates about the shortfalls of gender mainstreaming and the depoliticisation of gender and other concepts in development praxis. In these discussions considerably less thought has been given to the theoretical premises of these concepts and the implications of their interface with the epistemological and normative systems of the diverse communities in which they are employed. In the current paper I hope to undertake a more theoretical project by delineating how three foundational conceptsgender, gender equality, and empowermentare directly linked to secular epistemologies and western gender metaphysics, to suggest how this might be interfering with effective gender and development practice in non-western/non-secular contexts. I propose that more effort may need to be put in reconstructing and theorising gender realities through local conceptual repertoires in order to better design gender interventions that are attuned to local normative systems

    Investigating photocatalytic activity of titania coated fresh water diatom frustules by the degradation of polluting dye

    Silica frustules of diatoms contain nanoscale pores arranged in periodic order. In this report we have synthesized TiO2 nanoparticles coated diatom frustules followed by annealing at 500ºC. The as synthesized DT500 catalyst is characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and EDX. UV-visible spectroscopy is performed to analyze the band gap (BG) energy of the material which is found to lie in the visible light range. The photocatalytic properties of the catalysts are investigated via typical polluting dye as a model organic compound under visible light irradiation. The as synthesized DT500 catalyst contains anatase phase of titania exhibited more light absorption in the visible region and found to have higher photocatalytic efficiency due to morphology of frustules and TiO2 coating

    Evaluation of Axial Young’s Modulus of CNT-based Composites using Square, Hexagonal and Cylindrical Representative Volume Elements

     In the present work, finite element (FE) analysis has been performed for evaluating effective axial Young’s modulus of CNT-based composites considering different types of representative volume elements (RVEs). Different types of matrix materials from low strength to high strength have been considered to observe the effect of axial Young’s modulus on matrix materials. Effect of volume fraction on axial Young’s modulus has also been investigated. The present computational results are also compared with the theoretical results obtained based on rule of mixture (ROM). It has been found that the cylindrical RVE underestimated the Young’s modulus but the square and hexagonal RVEs give more closer results to those obtained based on ROM. It has also been observed that the axial Young’s modulus of CNT-based composites for all the RVE models increase with increase in volume fraction

    Eco-routing of Electric Vehicles: A Step Towards a Greener Environment

    The calamitous effect of the industrial revolution has had severe consequences on the environment. The development and use of electric vehicles have become almost a necessary alternative. This paper emphasizes on the use of electric vehicles and their potential in minimizing energy consumption. It also accentuates a fairly new navigation concept known as “eco-routing†of electric vehicles. Electric vehicles have received soaring attention because of the increased focus on environmental issues and sustainable energy. Their merits include low green-house emissions and lower maintenance cost as compared to internal combustion engine vehicles. It has been predicted that if the power used by electric vehicles is produced from renewable energy sources, it will prove to be a true green alternative. .Plugging into renewable energy sources outweighs the cost and short driving ranges for consumers intending to buy electric vehicles. Keeping pace with the technological progression diverse navigation systems are being proposed which aim at reducing the energy consumption and an „eco-route‟ seems just the perfect solution
