Promoting Practice-Teaching-Research Nexus: a goal to develop the social work profession globally
The scope of professional social work in the 21st century is ever widening. Started as a helping profession on an individual basis, it now reaches to a wide range of target groups and communities, justifying its cause, contributing to the integrated development of the individual, family, group and societal levels. Professional Social Work Education provides the budding aspirants a platform to practice their theoretical knowledge and skills in different social work settings. One of the major goals of professional social work education is to mould these trainees into unique individuals, so that they contribute the best out of them for the growth and development of the society. Social work education has recognised the need for research informed practice and as such evidence based practice has been accepted as a paradigm in the professional fields of social work, thus making the research-practice nexus embedded in the values of the profession. In this regard, it is worth mentioning the core mandate of the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) to enhance social work education and training at a global level that focuses broadly on the practice-teaching-research nexus. To promote and accomplish this goal, the students of social work were given an opportunity for experiential learning by making a study of the novel initiatives of professionally run NGOs
Comparative Analysis of Different Control Schemes for DC-DC Converter: A Review
DC-DC converters are some power electronic circuits that convert the DC voltage from one level to another. They have a very large area of applications ranging from computing to communication. They are widely used in appliance control transportations and high-power transmission. Its increasing demand is based on its capability of electrical energy conversion. The basic topologies of DC-DC converter are Buck converter and Boost converter, other topologies are derived from these two basic topologies. Mathematical modelling of both Buck converters is done. Some of the control schemes are summarized in this paper. Current mode control (CMC), PID, Sliding Mode (SM) control including their advantages and disadvantages are highlighted in this paper
Behaviour of solar cell in different shading condition and calculation of maximum power point at partial shading condition
Because of the presence of any obstacle some part of Solar Module (SM) may get shaded. This condition is called as partial shading condition (PSC). During PSC the output power from SM degrades severely. If the pattern of PSC is continuous for a longer period of time, there may be the possibility of generation of hot spot because of which mechanical damage will occur in the module. So it is utmost important to understand the behavior of SM in PSC and the root cause of generation of hot spot. So, in this paper a detail description is given explaining the behavior of SM at different modes of lighting condition. Along with that the characteristic behavior of SM is shown for different shading pattern and irradiance condition
CONTROLLERS AND METHODS FOR DIFFERENT ELECTRICAL MEASUREMENTS IN SYNCHRONIZATION OF RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES FOR GRID CONNECTIVITY: A REVIEW
In this paper, different controllers used in synchronization of renewable energy sources are studied. A study regarding the use of artificial intelligence in synchronization of grid connected power converters, efficient method for phase angle detection, frequency variation detection and good performance during voltage depression etc  carried out here. Importance of hybrid controllers over conventional controllers is also presented. Possibility of Z source T type inverter as an alternate solution to DC-DC converter is explored based on existing works
Design of DC Microgrid Based on Photovoltaic Power Supply System
This paper describes the possibilities of the application of DC Microgrids to solve the energy problem in the country. DC Microgrids open a gateway for integration of solar energy which is efficient and cleaner way of renewable energy generation, which can be integrated into the power distribution network. DC microgrid is an intelligent mix of smart grid and renewable source with increase in the efficiency of energy. Therefore, very little energy is wasted during distribution and transmission. It has several other advantages, which include - reduction in transmission losses, improvement in power quality & reliability, reduction in emissions and even it is cost effective. The circuit for solar power availability sensing and switching to battery supply is done on hardware. Design of DC microgrid from the solar energy is done in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The most important characteristic is that it provides a possibility for electrification of remote villages which are far from the reach of the conventional grid
Centralized Air Pollution Detection and Monitoring: A Review
Air pollution has become a major concern over the last quarter century and therefore mitigation of poor air quality for health and environmental reasons has been a primary focus for local governments. Industrialization and increasing number of vehicles are the primary source of pollution. There is ever rising need for continuous monitoring of air quality. A lot of technologies have introduced for measuring the air pollution. This paper presents a comparative study of the available technologies. Comparisons have been done based on measured pollutants, sensitivity, range, implementation cost, level of complexity etc., which are provided in tabular form for easy comparison. Paper also includes a proposed model which is an idea to implement the same as a real time project for air pollution detection and monitoring using microcontroller and Wi-Fi module
High Voltage Boost Converters: A Review on Different Methodologies and Topologies
Power converters are a fundamental element in the industries, micro-grids and households appliances providing all the necessary power regulation increasing the flexibility of the voltage, current, power, and phase. In this review a number of boost converters are studied, responsible for converting a low direct current voltage to a higher magnitude using a number of different methods including coupled inductors, series combination of a capacitor and two parallel inductors and an inductor discharging to two series connected capacitors in a transfer of power. The converters encounter two major practical issues sudden rise in di/dt and dv/dt that drastically reduces the efficiency and increases power loss in passive elements and stress in active switches
Alternative Approach for Evaluating the Performance of Microfinance
The commercial approach of microfinance has been hailed by global microfinance institutions whereas it has been criticized by development studies groups. The relatively high returns of microfinance institutions may meet the necessary condition for their financial sustainability, but they may fail to cater for the sufficient condition for alleviating mass poverty. This article argues that it may be required to reflect different economic and social context for evaluating the performance of microfinance among the outreach for the poor, financial sustainability, and the welfare impact. It recommends that cooperative microfinance may be more effective for alleviating mass poverty than commercial one
Nanostructured biosensor to estimate the freshness of fish
Freshness of fish is of importance for consumers because of its connection with health and taste. A mixture of complex volatile biogenic amines collectively known as total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) are released from the fish spoilage due to enzyme-catalyzed decomposition of biogenic amines by spoilage microorganisms. The release of TVB-N, due to microorganism growth in fish samples are considered as potential analytical indicator of fish spoilage. The developed sensor contains a mixture of pH sensitive anionic dye, cresol red (CR) and cationic surfactant cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) above the critical micellar concentration. The mixture of CR-CTAB (1:1) was immobilized on the reduced graphene oxide (rGO) modified electrode surface. A change in static voltage was observed across the CR-CTAB/rGO biosensor when TVB-N are released from spoiled fish under room temperature. The developed biosensor can be used for the real time measurement of fish freshness
