Smart Vehicle System using Arduino
Get PDFTransportation is a basic need of society and with the increasing population; indirectly there is an increase in the vehicle density, which may lead to many road accidents resulting in injuries and sometimes lead to death. To prevent this particularly, a system has been designed for accident location detection, accident prevention due to the upper issue of the dipper and anti-collision system. In this system, the shock sensor, ultrasonic sensor and temperature sensor are used as an input to the system along with GPS and GSM for real-time analysis and corresponding responses are analyzed; if any hazard occurs, the processing unit (Arduino) will take the appropriate action
Arduino Based Automatic Irrigation System
Get PDFIn the present days, the farmers are suffering from severe drought like condition throughout the year. The main objective of this paper is to provide a system leads to automatic irrigation thereby saving time, money power of the farmers, gardeners in greenhouses etc. Manual intervention is common in traditional farm-land irrigation techniques. This paper presents a technique for Arduino based Automatic Irrigation System. With this automated technology of irrigation, human intervention can be minimized. The moisture sensors will be bedded in on the field. Whenever there is a change in water concentration, these sensors will sense the change and gives an interrupt signal to the microcontroller. Soil is one of the most fragile resources whose soil pH property used to describe the degree of the acidity or basicity, which affects nutrient availability and ultimately plant growth. Thus, the system will provide automation, remote controlling and increased efficiency. The humidity sensor is connected to internal ports of microcontroller via comparator; whenever there is a fluctuation in temperature and humidity of the environment, these sensors sense the change in temperature and humidity and give an interrupt signal to the micro-controller and thus the motor is activated. Evaluating Productivity of Microfinance Institutions Evidence from Palestine and Jordan
Get PDFMicrofinance institutions (MFIs) have been recognized to eradicate poverty through the provision of financial services to the poor in war-torn Palestine and Jordan. To continuously provide banking and financial support to the poor, MFIs need to achieve sustainability by attaining sufficient productivity for long-term economic viability. Hence, this study evaluates the productivity of 13 MFIs in Palestine and Jordan by employing the Malmquist Productivity Index with five years data from 2007 to 2011. The microfinance industry observed overall 2.6% Total Factor Productivity (TFP) progress per annum and the decomposition of TFP revealed that the productivity progress was mainly due to progress in technological change. The result also showed a slight decline in the scale efficiency of MFIs. Overall, Palestinian MFIs seem to perform better than Jordanian MFIs

The Generic Threat in Global Pharmaceuticals
Get PDFIn recent times, the pharmaceutical industry has seen a lot of changes. Big players like Pfizer and Merck are focusing on industry consolidations. The reason is obvious; the threat from competition. Many blockbuster drugs, like Lipitor, are slated to lose their patent protection over the period from 2010-2013 and would be open for generic substitution. Price is the primary differentiator between a branded drug and its generic substitutes. Currently, this is the only basis for competition between the two. Generic drugs have gained popularity amongst consumers, governments and third-party payers (like insurance companies) because these are cheap. The increased competition from generics should have driven down drug prices and benefitted consumers. Unfortunately, it has not. The average price rise of branded drugs has been three times faster than the average price rise of generic drugs. The complex pricing model and the relatively inelastic demand for drugs make it easy for companies to increase prices and maintain margins. From a consumer point of view, increasing prices should be the last strategy adopted by pharmaceutical companies to counter the losses due to increased competition. OTC drug production, reformulation, and mergers and acquisitions are some viable alternatives. In this report, we examine the genesis and the magnitude of the generic threat and look at some of the consumer-friendly corporate strategies to counter the generic threat
A study on the dynamics that influence customer satisfaction and loyalty towards various telecom service providers
Get PDFThe Indian Telecom industry has witnessed exponential growth in the past few years. India today ranks second in the world in terms of the number of telephone subscriptions with a subscriber base of 1197.87 million at the end of Dec 2018. The overall tele density in India is 89.78 as on Dec 2018 as per TRAI reports. India also holds the distinction of being the second largest country in the world in terms of internet subscribers which stood at 604.21 million by the end of Dec 2018. The current governments push to promote digitization of India through the National Digital Communications policy which was launched in November 2018 has also provided a major thrust to the rapid growth in the telecom sector. This policy envisions to attract FDI to the tune of US$100 billion in the telecommunications sector by the year 2022. This has resulted in increased pressure on margins and better pricing power due to consolidation in the telecom industry. In such a scenario, service quality has become a fundamental differentiating factor; both in terms of increasing customer base as well as maintaining brand loyalty of existing customers. Though this aspect of service quality is very vital from the perspective of sustainable growth and revenue generation, yet it has always been overlooked by most telecom players whose only priority seems to be increasing their subscriber base. The present study attempts to identify the factors that affect customer satisfaction and explore the interrelationship between those factors with brand loyalty and customer retention. As a part of this study, relevant literature review was done, and an instrument was developed based on the SERVQUAL scale along with the added dimension of customer perceived network quality to measure the service delivery standards and the technical aspects of various service providers. The survey was conducted in the city of Guwahati with a sample size of 100 regular customers of wireless mobile services.  The factors included in the study were subject to multiple regression analysis to analyse and highlight the key service improvement areas. Also, factor analysis was conducted to find out the most significant factors from the customer point of view which affect customer loyalty. The results of the study highlighted that responsiveness were the most significant factor which impacts customer satisfaction. The other factors that impacted customer satisfaction as highlighted by the regression model in order of priority was reliability, customer perceived network quality, assurance, convenience, empathy and tangibility of the service provided. As indicated in the study, telecom service providers need to prioritize the intangible aspects of the service which have a greater impact on customers perceived service quality perceptions rather than the physical aspects of the service. The study also found that with the advent of mobile number portability, customers are more prone to brand switching if they are not satisfied with their current service providers. It can therefore be concluded that customer satisfaction directly affects brand loyalty w.r.t mobile service provider
Store Ambience and Consumer Choice of Retail Store Format
Get PDFThe Retail sector of India is changing at a fast pace as consumers are getting more knowledgeable and demanding. The availability and accessibility of vast options of products, service and knowledge are changing consumer preferences and perceptions. Added to that is the cut-throat competition in the retail format space. And to sustain in the market, the retailer has no other option than adapting to the changes occurring in the market.  The mere presence of product and services is no longer enough to give an unforgettable experience to consumers. The retailer must provide additional values to influence the consumer to visit their respective stores. It has been observed through various studies that consumer behavior is influenced by hedonic values in addition to the utilitarian values. Thus, the need is to have a deeper understanding of the consumer behavior, particularly their preference and perceptions about the modern stores. The need is to understand the differentiating factors between the store formats.  This study is done to understand firstly the factors influencing the consumer’s desire to shift from traditional store to the modern store formats. Linear multiple regression analysis is used to find the relative weight of the price, quality, store ambience and product availability on influencing consumers for shifting to modern retail stores. The associations between the demographic variables and the desire to shift from traditional stores were also further studied. Store ambience was then further investigated to see its association with the demographic variables. 18 constituents of store ambience were also ranked according to the relative importance assigned by the consumers. The result revealed that store ambience is an important consideration for preferring modern store format. The relationship between the effect of store ambience and the demographic variables is significant. Gold nanoparticles for sensing Mn2+ in water
Get PDFAbstract: Gold nanoparticles coated with polymers like chitosan, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) and poly acrylic acid (PAA) can effectively be used to detect the presence of Mn2+ ions in water. A shift in the optical absorbance peak of the Au colloid is observed in the presence of Mn2+ ions. The shift in the absorbance peak wavelength is directly proportional to the concentration of Mn2+ ions in water. Chitosan capping was found to give the maximum shift and as such was selected for the development of a sensor for detecting Mn2+ ions in water. The variation in photo-energy of the photons after passing through the colloidal dispersion of chitosan coated Au nanoparticles varies the conductivity of the detector and this can be related to the concentration of the Mn2+ ions in water. Two different detectors were tested, a nanosensor and a light dependent resistor, with the latter demonstrating better response.
Double Stage chain routing Protocal in WSN
Get PDFWireless sensor networking is most popular fields in today’s world. In this paper, we have discussed the different energy optimization protocols of WSN. We have forwarded a new protocol “Double Stage Chain Routing Protocol†from WSN. Our main focus is on extending the residual energy and network’s life time at least more than LEACH, CCM and TSCP. The result of our protocol is represented with the help of graph with comparison with TSCP and it is found that DSCRP gives better network lifetime than LEACH. The proposed algorithm is acceptable in the network lifetime of DSCRP as well as in network life time
