    The occupational hazards of healthcare personnel in hospitals: A study based on review of literature

    Hospitals have many unique hazards that can potentially affect the health of employees. These hazards include biological hazards, chemical hazards, ergonomic hazards, hazardous drugs, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, shift work, stress, and violence. These hazards, if not taken seriously, by the hospitals and the healthcare organizations can have adverse effects on the health of the healthcare personnel. Severe health hazards and injuries can lead to workers missing work or being assigned to restricted or modified duty. This might bring down the productivity of the hospitals and would also leave the healthcare workers in a poor state of health. This paper attempts to identify the different occupational hazards faced by the healthcare personnel in the hospitals and puts an effort to suggest some probable measures to reduce the effect of these hazards.  Keywords: Occupational hazards, health hazards, healthcare personnel, hospitals, health service

    CATALYTIC OXIDATION OF 2-NITROPHENOL IN WATER OVER Fe(III), Co(II) AND Ni(II) ANCHORED MCM-41

    Common biological treatments are not very efficient in removing persistent pollutants from water, such as 2-nitrophenol. Oxidation to harmless constituents is the preferred method of treatment. 2-nitrophenol enters water from dyes, pesticides, plasticizer explosives and solvent industries. This paper describes the use of Fe(III), Co(II) and Ni(II) supported MCM-41 as catalysts for oxidizing 2-nitrophenol in water. Oxidation was carried out in the presence and absence of H2O2 and the effects of reaction time, mole ratio, catalyst load, reactant concentration, temperature, and pH were evaluated. The conversions achieved for Fe(III), Co(II) and Ni(II) anchored MCM-41 were 47.8, 50.4 and 52.2 % in the presence of H2O2 and 39.8, 55.8 and 58.8 % in the absence of H2O2, respectively (temperature 353 K, time 300 min, catalyst load 2 g L-1, 2-nitrophenol 10-3 M). The preparation of the catalysts and their characterization by atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), cation exchange capacity (CEC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) and nitrogen adsorption measurements is described. The oxidation process followed first order kinetics. Some of the oxidation products were identified by gas chromatography mass spectrometry and a probable mechanism is proposed

    In the present work, the activity levels of radon in dwellings and schools are reported for Jowai region. We have used LR-115 type 2 films which belong to the class of Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors (SSNTDs); the ‘Bare-mode’ methodology was adopted. Higher concentration levels were observed in concrete structures as compared to Assam type structures.     Trivalent Erbium ions (Er3+) doped in silica glass was prepared by sol-gel technique which relies on the chemical reaction of liquid precursors to form the glass. Absorption spectrum was recorded in the visible region which shows several peaks resulting from the transition from ground state 4I15/2 to various excited states. The optical absorption has been investigated using Judd-Ofelt (J-O) theory. J-O parameters were obtained from the absorption spectrum.     Within a single experimental specimen there could be several spin species ensembles present. In a strong externally (external to the specimen) applied magnetic field, every one of the spin ensemble would be in equilibrium with the lattice (non-spin quantized levels of various degrees of freedom) and attain thermal equilibrium populations governed by the Boltzmann distribution for the corresponding quantization of energy level differences. In a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, of the several nuclear species, one of the species is selected to apply the RF radiation at frequency corresponding to energy level difference of one of the species namely electron, proton, carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus etc. As a variation, it is possible to saturate the levels of one spin species. That is, by a high power RF radiation the RF induced transition rates can be increased so that the populations almost equalize. This would be a non-thermal population difference. Since this is part of the lattice of some other spin species, its population distribution can be affected. Presence of such a non thermal population difference can cause non-thermal equilibrium in another spin ensemble in the specimen. When such non-thermal equilibriums attain a steady ate, then what is called Dynamic Spin Population exists. In general when it pertains to nuclear ensembles it is referred to as Dynamic Nuclear Polarization. The description of such Dynamic Nuclear Polarization, and the enumeration of a variety of experiments involving Dynamically Polarized nuclear states are the subject matter to be included in this contribution.

    DWT-Differential Analysis Optimization technique Used in the protection of Microgrid

    This paper process DWT-differential analysis for optimal relay coordination issue for the microgrid. This solution works for grid-connected as well as the disconnected mode of operation. Coordination among relays of the microgrid is a complex part to handle, as the insertion of DG causes a bidirectional flow of current. Advanced protection methods involving DWT analysis of fault current can provide intelligent and smart ways of protection. Previous work has been applied with the differential algorithm on grid-connected and islanded mode, but one major deficiency is an increase in operating time of primary and secondary relay, which further decreases the reliability of Microgrid. The proposed system relies on DWT-differential Analysis based approach, which removes all unwanted noise and bandwidth from fault signal and differential analysis helps to select the best pair of a relay. The problem is formulated as a Non-linear programming constraint to minimize overall operating Relay time. The Scheme is tested with IEEE-9 bus system. The comparative analysis is carried out with two traditional methods, the result shows that it achieves a remarkable reduction in operating time in the primary and backup relay
