    CHELATION, PHYSICOCHEMICAL AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITIES OF SOME MIXED CLOXACILLIN-VITAMIN C METAL COMPLEXES

    A new series of Ni(II), Co(II) and Mn(II) chloride complexes of mixed Cloxacillin and Vitamin C were synthesized using Refluxing method. Characterization of the ligands and their complexes were carried out by Molar conductivity, Elemental analysis and FT-Infrared spectroscopy. Antibacterial activity of the ligands and their metal complexes were investigated against selected test bacteria (Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa). The stoichiometry of the reaction between the ligands and the metal ions was determined following standard procedures. Based on the mobility of ions, the complexes were non-electrolytic in nature. The percentage elemental composition of the complexes and ligands indicated that they are in good agreement with each other. The FT-IR data showed a bathochromic shift in the band of the complexes observed at 1670 cm-1 which is attributed to nitrogen of azomethine and oxygen of carbonyl group in cloxacillin. In vitamin C, Coordination occurred through the oxygen of hydroxyl and carbonyl group. The complexes were found to be in octahedral geometry. Evaluation of antibacterial activity revealed the metal complexes to be higher in activity compared to their parent ligands implying that metal complexes possess a better affinity for bacterial plasma membrane of than their ligands. The relationship between ligands and metals  confirmed a 1:1 metal to ligand ratio in all the complexes

    Vehicles Safety System Using Arduino

    Transportation is a basic need of society and with the increasing population; indirectly there are increases in the vehicle density, which may lead to many road accidents resulting in injuries and sometimes lead to death. The aim of our project is to make human driving safer and to overcome accidents. This project is developed by integrating the vibration sensor, alcohol sensor, and ultrasonic sensor with the Arduino board. The vibration sensor used in this project is SW420 that detects the vibrations occur in a car and the data obtained can be utilized to detect an occurrence of an accident. The alcohol sensor used in this project is MQ3, which can detect the alcohol content in human breath. The ultrasonic sensor is used in the project to detect the presence of a vehicle for Anti-collision system. The system also makes use of GPS and GSM for real-time analysis

    Effect of road transport accessibility on agricultural produce marketing and livelihoods of farmers in the Kasena-Nankana West District of Ghana

    For developing counties like Ghana, tackling existing internal economic and social disparities demands long term strategic solutions to mitigate the severity of poverty among some specific vulnerable groups within the society. By enabling the effective exchange of goods and services, the road sector makes a tremendous contribution to the economic development of rural societies and the eradication of existing rural-urban disparities. In many developing countries, however, rural road transport networks are generally of a low quality owing to little priority accorded to them. This paper, therefore, assessed the effects of poor road transport accessibility on the marketing of agricultural produce in the Kasena-Nankana West District of Ghana. The paper draws on the experiences of 150 respondents; farmers and transport operators from three communities (Babile, Chiana and Naania) and officials from the Feeder Roads Department of the District Assembly on the challenges of marketing agricultural produce in the District. Data collection was based on primary sources using questionnaires and interview guides. The analyzed data was presented in descriptive statistics such as percentages using tables and graphs. The condition of the road has engendered the practice of drivers overloading their vehicles. Utmost among the challenges confronting produce marketing is the issue of increased transport fares. The major impact of poor road transport network on the marketing of agriculture produce, identified by the study was the high incidence of post-harvest losses. Also, the increased cost of transportation compels farmers to sell their produce at farm gates at lower prices. The study, therefore, recommends that the District Assembly and Department of Feeder Roads improve the road networks within the area while storage facilities should be built and strategically sited in the communities to store farm produce.

    Dear ReadersI am happy to introduce you the Volume 5 (Annual), 2019 of The Journal of Development Practice – A Peer-Reviewed International Journal of Experiences from the Field (ISSN 2394-0476). The volume carries a section on Microfinance (three articles) Guest Edited by Md Aslam Mia and two other articles related to development. The articles address various themes related to Sustainable Development Goals and puts suggestions to enhance quality of life.The paper by Md. Sohel Rana, Md. Aslam Mia, Izlin Binti Ismail and Mohd Nazari Bin Ismail evaluates the productivity of microfinance institutions (MFIs) from Palestine and Jordan by employing non-parametric Data Envelopment Analysis. The study uses balanced panel secondary data of 13 MFIs and proposes that to ensure long term sustainability, MFIs need to be financially sustainable and productivity could be one of the ways to promote financial sustainability. According to the study the microfinance industry observed 2.6% productivity progress per annum due to change in technological capacity of the MFIs. Moreover, the study also finds that Palestinian MFIs perform relatively better than Jordanian MFIs.The second article Zakat as an Alternative of Microcredit for Poverty Reduction in Bangladesh by Isahaque Ali, Azlinda Azman, Paramjit Singh Jamir Singh, Syazwani Drani, Zulkarnain A. Hatta, Manzur Kadir Ahmed and Tahmina Akhter discusses micronance and Zakat based on Islamic financial philosophy to poverty reduction. The study based on evidence argues that microfinance alone may not be enough to eradicate poverty; however, microfinance and Zakat jointly increase the monthly and yearly income of the recipients.The third article Pitfalls of Microcredit towards Sustainable Economic Development of the Microcredit Borrowers - Evidence from Rupsha, a Locality of Bangladesh by Idris Ali, Ashiqun Nabi and Muhammad HelalUddin discusses the pitfalls of microcredit in Rupsha, Bangladesh. The study points out those high interests rates, lack of proper monitoring mechanisms, failing to lend to right borrowers, lack of training and other factors lead to achieve its larger aim of sustainable economic growth and development.The fourth article Northeast Cultural Values and Principles, Good Governance and Conflict Reduction - A Bodo Socio-Cultural Framework by Leon Miller proposes a solution to problems occurring in Northeast India that result in conflict – that are the consequences of the prior approach to development and governance. The article argues that the problems can be solved in a way compatible with micro level cultural values and that benefit stakeholders at the local, regional, and national levels. The study carried out in context of the Northeast India and a Bodo Socio-Cultural Framework is used to present the case of application.The fifth article Effect of Road Transport Accessibility on Agricultural Produce Marketing and Livelihoods of Farmers in the Kasena-Nankana West District of Ghana by Anthony Kwame Morgan, Emmanuel Dogbey, Wahid Abdul Arimeyaw and Alfred Foster Senior Owusu speaks of roads making significant contribution to economic growth and development in rural societies thus eradicating rural-urban disparities.     Northeast Cultural Values and Principles, Good Governance and Conflict Reduction: A Bodo Socio-Cultural Framework

    This article proposes a solution to problems occurring in Northeast India that result in conflict – that are the consequences of the prior approach to development and governance. The article argues that the problems can be solved in a way compatible with micro level cultural values and that benefit stakeholders at the local, regional, and national levels by integrating Amartya Sen’s approach to freedom with the Creating Public Value Theory (i.e. state-of-the-art strategies for freedom and good governance). The article uses an exploratory study of relevant literature as a method to analyze the dynamics of Northeast India and to explain how recent scholarship on Development as Freedom, multi-level governance, Creating Public Value, and social networking contribute to conflict reduction and peacebuilding. Bodo culture is used as a context to demonstrate the viability and applicability of the model.     Developing Assamese Information Retrieval System Considering NLP Techniques: an attempt for a low resourced language

    This paper engulfs the activities involved in developing a Monolingual Information Retrieval (IR) system for an Indo-Aryan language- Assamese. In a multilingual country like India, where 23 official languages exist, the task of digitizing local language contents is growing tremendously. To meet the need of each individual’s relevant information, monolingual Information Retrieval in own language is very essential. The work aims to develop a search engine that retrieves relevant information for the fired query in one's respective language. Various Linguists, Researchers collaborated with the work, provided valuable information and developed various important resources. Many informative resources, language resources, tools technologies were research, analyze, develop and applied in implementing the overall pipeline. The search engine is frame worked on open search platforms- Solr and Nutch with NLP applications embedded in it. Computational Linguistics or Natural Language Processing (NLP) enhances the performance of the IR system. Each phase of the system is being elaborately described in this paper and explained step-wise. This work is a remarkable contribution to Assamese language technology and an important application of NLP

    Word and syllable Boundary Determination in Continuous Bodo Speech

    The idea of word boundary is very fundamental and one of the important factors as far as the study of any human language is concerned. In actual practice it seems, describing boundaries of word are somewhat easier to define, although it is a subject with limited spread. In this paper, we try to study the spoken Bodo language, we considered four common criteria for detection of boundaries of syllable or word namely quick initial speech, sluggish terminating speech, reset in pitch and pauses) and examined their existence in a fragment taken from a recorded database that contains approximately 23 similar units. The recorded speech was parsed by two linguistic experts and the result so obtained were examined acoustically to establish which were present at each separation of words. Later on the obtained result is compared with the result obtained from SVM classifier. It has been noticed that both approaches gives similar and comparative result. Further, it is found that only a few of the determined separation of words conformed to all cues. It is found that the sluggish terminating speech was most prevailing, followed by reset in pitch, then pauses, and finally quick initial speech. An intense study, involving large set of units and more speakers is still under process

    A precise modeling and an analysis on an artificial arm have a very significant role in the control action applications. The control activities are useful to identify the system performance and design requirements. The efforts have been made by the researchers to initiate different approaches to direct the best effective model. The state-space analysis has been introduced to analyze different control performances such as controllability, observability and stability testing of the standard artificial arm model after producing the closed loop representation by the simulation approach using Jury stability and Lyapunov stability analysis. The control action analysis shows the relevancy and the precision of the proposed mathematical model
