    It gives me immense pleasure to be able to bring out the Volume 7 (Annual) 2021, a Special Issue on Environment, Development and Our Future of the Journal of Development Practice - A Peer Reviewed International Journal of Experiences from the Field. The Volume has six papers as listed below - The paper by Antara Hazarika on Human-elephant Conflicts and the Preservation of Elephant Corridors in Digboi Forest Division Area speaks about the problem of human-elephant conflict and attempts to evaluate the role played by the forest department in conservation and the concern of local people particularly those belonging to forest villages. The study recommends preservation and protection of environment and wildlife. The second paper by Ratul Lahon and Amarjyoti Mahanta entitled Does Flood Affect the Intensity of Livelihood Diversification? - A Study in the Flood-Affected Areas of Assam, India aims at explaining the livelihood diversification between flood-free and flood-prone areas taking the case of rural areas of the Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts of Assam, India. The study finds that there is moderate diversification in livelihood but towards the low end job and recommends action for creating more opportunities for further diversification of livelihood. An article by Nurzamal Haque and Ratul Mahanta on Teacher Quality and Dropout Rates in Primary Education - the Case of Developing Countries attempts to address the drop out issue in primary education in developing countries. This study examines the role of the teacher in reducing dropouts in primary education. Controlling for the role of socio-economic and individual characteristics, this study finds that the reduction in class size through recruitment of an extra teacher is more effective in reducing dropouts in developing countries than the provision of organised training of teachers. The study also finds that increased income of the household reduces drop out. The paper by Mofidul Hasan on Inequality Adjusted Per Capita Income of Indian States in 2004-05 and 2011-12 examines the issue of inequality. The paper calculates an inequality adjusted per capita income in India with an aim to see whether ranking of states change dramatically from their ranking by per capita income after the states are penalized because of inequality in their distributions of income. The study however does not generate any evidence in support the above argument. The study recommends that adoption of naturally distributing growth patterns may generate growth with reduced inequalities. The paper by Bada Mawkhiew and Darisisha Thankhiew on Informality in Manufacturing Sector in India discusses the issue of informality in manufacturing sector in India. The study uses data from National Sample Survey and recommends that giving motivating incentives to informal units on registration and to formal units for setting up in rural areas may reduce the problem of informality in the manufacturing sector in India. The paper by Polakshi Bhattacharyya and Barsha D. Arengh on Health Issues of Rat Hole Coal Mine Workers of Meghalaya: A Logit Regression Analysis discusses various health problems faced by rat home coal miners in the Garo hills of Meghalaya, India.     Identification of Land undergoing degradation using geospatial techniques: A case study of Kohima, Nagaland

    Land degradation is defined as the process of transformation of productive lands into non-productive lands which affects the living conditions of the people. Assessing land degradation vulnerability is an important step to combat land degradation. To combat the degradation process, it is necessary to understand the causes and impacts caused by the socio economic and natural parameters. The present study aims to assess the areas undergoing Land Degradation in Kohima District of Nagaland using Remote sensing and GIS techniques. Socio-economic Indices such as Economic Development Index, Amenities Index and Natural parameters such as Land utilisation Index and Soil Index are used to derive Degradation Vulnerability Index. The results indicate that, about 40.92% of land of Kohima falls under high vulnerable and 25.40% under very high vulnerable class

    DESIGN OF ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK BASED TID CONTROLLER FOR TRANSIENT STABILITY IMPROVEMENT

    This paper is to present the design of the neural network based TID controller applicable to static VAR compensator (SVC) on two machine 3-bus transmission system to improve the transient stability when sudden disturbances occur in transmission system. i.e three phase fault. The power system network considered is to simulated using phasor simulation method. Comparisons regarding stability are done for the system without controller, PI control ler, TID controller and Neural Network based TID controller. Simulation results show that the proposed Adaptive Neural network based TID controller was effective in reducing power system oscillations compared to other controllers

    Comparison of satellite image-based vegetation indices for extraction and mapping of litchi (Litchi Chinensis) cultivation area in Muzaffarpur district, Bihar, India

    The aim of present study was to evaluate the suitability of various vegetation indices (VIs) to ex- tract litchi cultivation area in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar, India. VIs computed from the multispectral bands of Landsat satellites have been used in delineating litchi cultivation areas from other land cover cate- gories. In this study, ten selected VIs have been applied and compared their effectiveness in litchi cultiva- tion area mapping for years 2016 and 2020 respectively. The results showed that the Normalized Green Blue Difference Index (NGBDI) was found to be most appropriate for extracting and mapping the litchi cultivation area. The area statistics of litchi cultivation was validated and are in closer correspondence with the data reported by the state horticulture department. It was found that the area of Litchi cultivation field is increased from 10272.79 ha to 10400.63 ha during the period of 4 years (2016-2020) in the area under in- vestigation. The spatial distribution maps of litchi fruit represent a vital reference suitable for developing a regional action plan to promote its cultivation and benefits to farmers

    Detection of Alzheimer’s Disease using CNN Architectures

    Alzheimer’s disease is a neurological condition that causes some structural alterations in the brain. In this paper we have given an overview of all the available good CNN models used in medical imaging for image classification purpose such asAlexNet, GoogleNet, ResNet 18, ResNet 50, SqueezeNet and DenseNet. Using these CNN models, we have been able to classify three different stages of Alzheimer's disease – Cognitively Normal (NC), Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer’s Disease(AD). The dataset is derived from ADNI and has been preprocessed before applying various CNN models. The experimental results demonstrate that all models performed well and the best accuracy has been acquired by the GoogleNet of 96.81%

    A Comparative study on Ferro-fluid Lubricated Porous Journal Bearing

    This research considered hydrodynamic theory on ferro-fluid flow models such as R. E. Rosensweig model and Jenkins model for axially undefined journal bearing with porous attached at the inner surface (i.e. on the journal). In this study, the variable external magnetic field is assumed. The expressions of (non-dimensional) pressure and load-carrying capacity are obtained. The values of load capacity for both models are calculated for various parameters like porous thickness, slip velocity, squeeze velocity, permeability, and eccentricity. Also, calculated load capacity by cons idering porous structure models like the globular sphere model and capillary fissures model. Based on the obtained results, the globular sphere model gives much better performance for load capacity rather than the capillary fissures model. From the study, it is suggested that to design the journal bearing, globular sphere model of porous structure should be preferred over the capillary fissures model. Also, for the better performance of the journal bearing, the choice of fluid-flow model depends on the values of parameters

    Cosine Based Non-Linear Frequency Modulation Waveforms with Low Sidelobes

    Suppression of sidelobes is critical in most radar applications. The sidelobes of around -30 dB to -60dB are of primary interest in several radar applications. Several studies focused on the design of Nonlinear frequency modulated (NLFM) waveforms. Two cosine-based NLFM waveforms, NLFM I and II, are designed and investigated for their performance for sidelobe level for different time-bandwidth (BT) products. The designed waveforms achieved sidelobe levels of about -65.25 dB and -79.42 dB at BT product 1000. For low BT product 50, the sidelobes achieved are -52.71 dB and -42.05 dB, respectively. The reduction in sidelobes increased with an increase in BT product. For overall performance, the designed waveforms were investigated for doppler tolerance and signal to noise ratio (SNR). An increase in SNR caused sidelobe levels to decrease. Like other NLFM waveforms, they exhibited doppler intolerance

These recent known results suggest to us introducing a concept of II-ward continuity in the sense that a function ff is II-ward continuous if IlimnΔf(xn)=0I-\lim_{n\rightarrow\infty} \Delta f(x_{n})=0 whenever IlimnΔxn=0I-\lim_{n\rightarrow\infty} \Delta x_{n}=0 and a concept of II-ward compactness in the sense that a subset EE of R\textbf{R} is II-ward compact if any sequence x=(xn)\textbf{x}=(x_{n}) of points in EE has a subsequence z=(zk)=(xnk)\textbf{z}=(z_{k})=(x_{n_{k}}) of the sequence x\textbf{x} such that IlimkΔzk=0I-\lim_{k\rightarrow \infty} \Delta z_{k}=0 where Δzk=zk+1zk\Delta z_{k}=z_{k+1}-z_{k}. We investigate II-ward continuity and II-ward compactness, and prove some related problem

    In this world, there are millions of people who suffer from quadriplegic, paralysis, mobility disorder, neuromuscular disorder in which organ below the neck can’t be controlled by the patients. The system which has been developed in this project is using electroencephalogram based promising and important technology using Brain Computer Interface. It helps unblessed people to control the organ below neck using their own brain. Modern electroencephalogram-based Brain Computer Interface uses gel type electrodes and this type of technology is only limited to hospitals and laboratories and it requires 30 minutes to acquire a brain signal and this proposed system is very costly. But to overcome this cup type electrodes are used and overall cost is reduced to make it cost effective. It has been made portable, so that users can handle and carry it easily. It is possible to operate an electric wheelchair for individuals with disabilities using electroencephalogram signals of their eye movements, which is accomplished via the application of algorithms in MATLAB.     Renewable Energy from Living Plants to Power IoT Sensor for Remote Sensing

    Renewable energy which can be used to replace traditional energy sources from fossil fuel is in dire demand to protect the earth from the further negative effect of climate change resulting from mining or drilling of fossil fuel and its related pollution. There are various renewable energy sources available, however, there is none currently that does not compete for arable land in nature or land for food production to enable the installation of the renewable energy facility. Thus, in this research, it is proposed a novel type of electrical energy which can be harvested from living plants and coexist well with nature without competing for any arable lands and at the same time generate energy for human needs. Plants generate energy from photosynthesis, respiration, and intercellular activities, and this energy, although is minute, still can be harvested as a new potential energy source to power any ultra-low power sensor for remote sensing purposes. Thus, it is presented in this paper, a characterization of the specific setup condition to harvest optimum minimum 3V from living plants and a power management circuit that can further boost the energy to an optimum level to power a wireless IoT sensor for remote sensing purposes. It turns the living plant into a plant-based cell. As there is wide vegetation in forests, jungles, plantations, and agricultural lands on earth, the combination of this energy from the plants could be a promising source of new renewable energy to mankind as this vegetation can exist for both food and energy production while it does not compete for arable land for the installation of energy sources such as what happens in fossil fuel, solar or wind energy to create greener earth
