Implementation of Grid Search Optimization Algorithm and Adaptive Response Rate Exponential Smoothing for Hyperparameter Tuning in Production Activity Determination

    No full text
This research aims to improve the accuracy of production planning at PT Bilah Baja Makmur Abadi by combining the Adaptive Response Rate Exponential Smoothing (ARRES) algorithm and Grid Search optimization. The main problems faced are unpredictable demand fluctuations, dead stock risks, and high operational costs due to imbalances between production and demand. The ARRES algorithm is used for demand forecasting with adaptive exponential weighting, while Grid Search optimizes the alpha and initial year parameters to improve prediction accuracy. This study uses a 5-year sales dataset (2017-2021) with model evaluation using Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE). The results showed that the combination of Grid Search and ARRES optimization algorithms proved effective in helping predict production needs. This can be seen from the significant decrease in the average MAPE value, which is 7.07% using this combination method, compared to 8.18% in the ARRSES method. The lower MAPE value indicates that the Grid Search method is effective in optimizing the ARRSES model parameters. With relatively high prediction accuracy (MAPE < 10%), this method is able to cope with unexpected demand fluctuations

This research investigates the effectiveness of counseling methods, incorporating seminar models and PowerPoint presentations, in enhancing students’ knowledge and preparedness for fire emergency response at Universitas Prima Indonesia. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental, one-group pretest-posttest design was employed, involving 78 students from the Public Health Bachelor Program. The intervention comprised four counseling sessions covering basic fire knowledge, preparedness steps, emergency actions, and the use of firefighting equipment. Data was collected through questionnaires administered before and after the intervention, assessing students' knowledge of fire extinguishers, hydrants, fire alarms, assembly points, emergency exits, and emergency stairs. The results indicated a significant positive impact, with post-test scores for both knowledge and preparedness substantially higher than pre-test scores (p < 0.001). Before the intervention, only 25.6% of participants demonstrated good knowledge, while after the intervention, 97.4% achieved this level. Similarly, preparedness levels significantly increased, with 97.4% of participants feeling ready after the intervention compared to only 19.2% before. The study underscores the effectiveness of the implemented counseling methods and supports the recommendation for continuous fire safety education to ensure sustained preparedness

Antimicrobial activity of red dragon fruit peel extract against Staphylococcus aureus for root canal irrigation

    No full text
Staphylococcus aureus is a type of bacteria that can colonise root canals, leading to infection and pain. Root canal irrigants are substances used during root canal treatment, and sodium hypochlorite is the gold standard, despite its toxicity. Red dragon fruit peel has several active compounds with antibacterial properties. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of red dragon fruit peel extract (Hylocereus polyrhizus) against S. aureus as a root canal irrigant. This was an experimental study with a post-test-only group design. The study population was pure S. aureus. The study consisted of five treatment groups: red dragon fruit peel extract at concentrations of 80%, 40%, and 20%, 0.2% chlorhexidine, and DMSO, with five repetitions. Antibacterial effectiveness was tested using the disc diffusion method. Data were analysed using the Kruskal-Wallis statistical test and Post Hoc LSD. The study results showed average inhibition zone diameters of red dragon fruit peel extract against S. aureus of 12.18±0.228 mm, 11.16±0.305 mm, and 9.54±0.603 mm for concentrations of 80%, 40%, and 20%, respectively. The highest average inhibition zone diameter was found in the positive control (0.2% chlorhexidine), which was 13.20±0.255 mm, while the negative control (DMSO) showed no inhibition against S. aureus. The Kruskal-Wallis test results indicated that there was a significant effect of red dragon fruit peel extract against S. aureus (p=0.0001; p<0.05). The Post Hoc LSD test results showed that there were differences in the effectiveness of red dragon fruit peel extract between the two different groups (p=0.0001; p<0.05). Red dragon fruit peel extract can be used as a root canal irrigant, with a concentration of 80% being the most effective concentration

Factors associated with self-medication practices of primary dysmenorrhea among students

Self-medication and home remedies are the most frequently used methods to relieve menstrual discomfort among female college students. The practice of self-medication varies among adolescent female students. Therefore, this study aimed to observe and analyze the factors associated with the practice of self-medication for primary dysmenorrhea among university students. This study used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 207 female health students from Universitas Prima Indonesia. The sample was obtained through a purposive sampling technique. Data analysis included univariate analysis, bivariate analysis (chi-square and Fisher's exact test), and multivariate analysis (logistic regression). The prevalence of self-medication was reported to be 36.7%. Several factors were found to be associated with self-medication practices for primary dysmenorrhea among students, namely menstrual cycle (p<0.001, OR: 3.27, 95% CI 1.75-6.10), duration of pain during menstruation (p<0.001 OR: 3.85, 95% CI 2.10-7.07), and severity of pain (p=0.009 OR: 2.21, 95% CI 1.24-3.93). In contrast, age (p=0.316), academic year (p=0.889), family history (p=0.470), age at menarche (p=0.223), and menstrual duration (p=0.552) did not show a statistically significant association with self-medication practices for primary dysmenorrhea. The dominant factor influencing self-medication practices for primary dysmenorrhea was pain duration. Notably, self-medication with medications was found to be relatively low among health students with primary dysmenorrhea. Therefore, educational programs that address the limitations of self-medication with drugs need to be implemented effectively

The effectiveness of natural tooth whitening using herbal substances on coffee-induced tooth discoloration

    No full text
Tooth discoloration can be caused by many factors, including food and beverages. One of the drinks that can affect tooth color is coffee. Tooth discoloration can be overcome by teeth whitening procedures, which often use chemicals that can cause tooth sensitivity. Therefore, in this study, researchers are looking for safer alternatives, namely using herbal ingredients such as kepok banana peel and pineapple stem. This study used a laboratory experimental method with a pre-test and post-test only research design with control groups. The sample consisted of 27 central and lateral incisor teeth, which were divided into three treatment groups. The samples were then soaked for 14 days in coffee solution, and then group one was soaked in 100% kepok banana peel extract, group two was soaked in 100% pineapple stem extract, and group three as a control group was soaked in 6% hydrogen peroxide. All samples were soaked for two days in an incubator. The results of the one-way ANOVA test showed that there was a significant color difference (p<0.05) between the three treatment groups. The Post Hoc LSD test showed there was a significant difference between the 6% hydrogen peroxide group and the two extract groups, and also a significant difference between 100% kepok banana peel and 100% pineapple stem extract. Each group has an effect on tooth discoloration. Hydrogen peroxide is indeed the group with the highest tooth color change but has an effect that can make teeth sensitive. The banana peel and pineapple stem extract groups also had a significant and safer effect on teeth. 100% kepok banana peel extract and 100% pineapple stem extract have an effect on tooth discoloration but are not better than hydrogen peroxide. In addition, 100% pineapple stem extract has a better ability in teeth whitening than 100% kepok banana peel extract

Observations in Pancur Batu District, Deli Serdang Regency, revealed an abundant growth of Bacang mango trees (Mangifera foetida), yet their potential benefits remain underutilized by the local community. This study aimed to investigate and provide insight into the antibacterial properties of Bacang mango leaf extract. An experimental laboratory study was conducted using a randomized posttest-only control group design. The results demonstrated that Bacang mango leaf extract effectively inhibited the growth of Streptococcus mutans in vitro, surpassing the efficacy of 0.2% chlorhexidine digluconate used as a positive control. Measurement of the inhibition zone diameters indicated a proportional relationship between extract concentration and antibacterial efficacy. At 25% concentration, the mean inhibition zone diameter was 13.15 ± 0.49 mm. Increasing the concentration to 50% yielded a larger diameter of 15.75 ± 0.66 mm, while the highest antibacterial activity was observed at 75% concentration, with an inhibition zone diameter of 16.73 ± 0.55 mm. In comparison, the 0.2% chlorhexidine digluconate positive control produced an inhibition zone diameter of only 12.50 ± 0.26 mm. These findings suggest that Bacang mango leaf extract at 75% concentration is the most effective in inhibiting Streptococcus mutans growth. Its significantly greater inhibitory effect relative to lower concentrations and the positive control highlights its potential as a natural antibacterial agent
