The Effectiveness of Group Video-based Smoking Cessation Strategy (GRACIOUS) on Patient’s Motivation to Quit: A Randomised Study Among High Cardiovascular Risk Smokers

    No full text
Background: Smoking is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, particularly in high-risk individuals. This study aimed to evaluate an effectiveness of innovative, tailored group video-based smoking cessation intervention in enhancing knowledge and motivation to quit among high cardiovascular risk smokers. The group video-based programs may offer a flexible, engaging and impactful alternative to traditional in-person interventions.  Methods: This was a two-armed, randomized control trial involving 100 high cardiovascular-risk smokers attending the outpatient clinic Hospital Pakar Universiti Sains Malaysia. Participants were randomized into two equally divided groups. The intervention group received a group video-based smoking cessation seminar and standard care, while the control group received only standard care. Knowledge and motivation scores were measured at baseline, 2 weeks, and 8 weeks post-intervention. Results: There was a significant group-time interaction for both knowledge (p<.001, 95% CI) and motivation scores (p<.001, 95% CI) between the intervention and control groups. Both groups showed significant improvements in knowledge and motivation at 2 and 8 weeks compared to baseline (p<0.05, 95% CI), with the intervention group showing a greater mean difference in both scores. Conclusion: The addition of a group video-based smoking cessation strategy to standard care significantly improved knowledge and motivation to quit smoking among high cardiovascular-risk smokers

The counseling process requires engaging media to effectively enhance understanding and promote behavioral change within the target population. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of health counseling delivered through video and leaflet media on adolescents’ readiness to face menarche. A quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group was employed. The study population consisted of students in grades 4 to 6 at SDN 101816, totaling 136 individuals. From this population, 60 respondents were selected and divided equally into two groups: one group (n = 30) received counseling via video media, while the other group (n = 30) received counseling through leaflets. Results indicated that adolescents' readiness to face menarche increased following health counseling with video media, with mean scores rising from 26.47 pre-intervention to 31.20 post-intervention, representing an improvement of 4.73 points. Statistical analysis confirmed a significant effect of video-based counseling on readiness (p < 0.001). Similarly, counseling using leaflet media resulted in an increase in readiness, with mean scores improving from 24.73 before intervention to 27.10 after, an increase of 2.34 points, also statistically significant (p < 0.001). Furthermore, comparison between the two groups revealed a significant difference in the effectiveness of video versus leaflet counseling approaches, favoring video media (p = 0.002). These findings suggest that health workers should prioritize the use of engaging media, such as videos, in health promotion efforts aimed at preparing adolescents for menarche

    No full text
Dehydration poses a significant health risk to construction workers due to heavy physical work and exposure to hot working conditions. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of dehydration and identify associated risk factors among construction workers. A cross-section study was conducted involving 32 construction workers in a construction project for the construction of a wheat flour and soybean mill owned by PT. Agri First which operates at KIM 2 Medan. Data were collected using questionnaires, fingertip pulse oximeters, urine refractometers, and observation sheets. Dehydration is categorized based on the level of urine specific gravity (ultrasound). The data was statistically tested using the Fisher Exact test (α=0.05). The majority of workers (75%) were dehydrated. There was no significant relationship between dehydration and age. However, workers with more than 3 years of experience were more likely to be dehydrated compared to workers with less than 3 years of experience (OR = 8,333, 95% CI: 1,392-49,872). Workers with moderate workloads were also more likely to be dehydrated compared to workers with light workloads (OR = 18,333). There was a significant association between water intake and dehydration (p = 0.000). All workers who did not drink enough water were dehydrated, while only 66.7% of those who drank enough water were dehydrated. Workers with more than 3 years of experience, moderate workload, and inadequate water intake have a higher risk of becoming dehydrated. Interventions to improve hydration among construction workers are urgently needed

This study investigates the influence of Kaizen Culture and Talent Management on employee performance, with Reward as a moderating variable at CV. Sumber Beton, Lubuklinggau City. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 40 employee respondents. The results reveal that Kaizen Culture has a significant positive effect on employee performance, with a path coefficient of -0.519 and a p-value of 0.004. Talent Management shows a significant positive effect, with a path coefficient of 0.670 and a p-value of 0.000. However, Reward does not significantly moderate the relationship between Kaizen Culture and employee performance, as indicated by a p-value of 0.363. Similarly, Reward fails to significantly moderate the effect of Talent Management on performance, with a p-value of 0.455. These findings suggest that while Kaizen Culture and Talent Management directly affect employee performance, Reward does not strengthen these relationships and may even weaken them. This study highlights the importance of focusing on internal cultural and talent development strategies rather than relying solely on reward systems to enhance employee performance

    No full text
The language that emerges in interactions between individuals reflects the close relationship between language and culture, which contributes to the mindset and behavior of individuals. As a means of expression, language not only functions as a means of communication, but also as a reflection of how a person understands the world around them. Language reflects an individual's identity, shapes thinking habits, and influences how individuals interact with others. In the realm of language psychology, language is seen as an important factor in building perceptions, emotions, and effective communication patterns. This study will further explore how the language used by counselors and the language responses of clients can affect the effectiveness of communication in guidance and counseling services. This study will examine the strategy of using appropriate language in the context of education and language psychology, in order to optimize the interaction between counselors and clients and improve the quality of counseling services
