The Way of the Warrior in Interwar Japan
Get PDFIn the 1860s, Japan was pulled out of its centuries-long isolation and forced to rapidly adapt to the industrialized world. The state quickly made friends with the more established Western powers and was able to impress them with its surprising miliary victories over China in 1895, Russia in 1905, and Germany in 1919. However, the goodwill that Japan had garnered with the West evaporated after the First World War. How could a nation so adept at modern militarism and economics alienate every friend it had in the span of 25 years? The answer stems from Japan\u27s long feudal age; in the twentieth century, Japan was unable to reconcile feudal concepts of Bushidō and Shinto with emerging Wilsonian idealism, leading to a fundamental disconnect that drove the Japanese down the path to confrontation with the nations that had ushered it into the modern era
Creativity inspires exploration
Get PDFIn today’s society there is a growing problem around students and their hatred towards math. This research explored the various ways of how to make the math classroom a creative and engaging place for students. For this research, the guiding question was “How can teachers use technology in a creative enough way to make students more interested in the subject of mathematics?” The final findings for this research were slightly different than expected. When conducting the research for this project it was done through a Google Forms survey and through an interview with an expert (see Appendix A). Many of the people who responded to the survey had not experienced technology when studying math before. The survey results regarding the question if teachers should use more technology when teaching math was mainly positive. This research project will help me in my future math classroom to foster a love for math. Too many children develop a great hatred toward the subject of math and I would like to help contribute to the change of this growing problem and this research will help guide me
Traditional or technology: A new twist to learning mathematics
Get PDFTechnology is now heavily being used in the classrooms of many schools and they are now finding their way into the lessons plans of many educators. My research manuscript examines the following question, “Integrating technology in Mathematics allows students to have many engaging virtual experiences. But can this lead to students preferring the virtual experience than the authentic hands on (live) experience?” I used Google forms to create a survey and gather information about my topic. I received many mixed responses regarding my topic in study. Overall the participants in my survey believed that technology can have a positive role in a student\u27s learning if used appropriately, and that as educators it is important that we find a balance between using technology and traditional methods in our teaching. This research project has helped me identify as a teacher what methods I would like to use and this assignment has given me an opportunity to reflect back on my teaching philosophy
Assistive reading technologies for struggling readers
Get PDFThe purpose of this research study was to identify how assistive technologies can be used in the classroom to assist elementary students with reading disabilities. The intent of this study was targeted towards identifying and exploring the different types of available reading technologies, their benefits, as well as the potential drawbacks that they inflict. This research draws upon examining findings from various literature reviews which focused on the placement and the impacts that assistive technologies present to students with learning challenges. Additionally, interviews with experts in the fields of inclusive education, early literacy, technology, and English language learners were conducted to further these findings. A survey was sent out to inquire Mount Royal University teacher candidates, educational faculty, and various elementary school teachers regarding how they have seen technology used to assist readers. The results of this research study indicated that assistive reading technologies have the ability to propel readers to reach higher levels of success and self-efficacy, enable readers and nonreaders to engage with literature, increase comprehension, and decrease learning gaps between students. These findings are significant and useful for current and emerging facilitators as they serve to provide an awareness of reading technologies that are available and the benefits that they present to readers. However, it is essential to recognize that not every reading tool will produce the same results for every child and that assistive reading technologies should not solely be relied upon by students or teachers
Math learning disabilities and digital technology
Get PDFThis research study addressed the question that how could the educational technologies help students in learning mathematical concepts in elementary, and especially focused on students who have math learning disabilities. After gathering background information from several scholarly articles, I conducted an online survey and sent out to my education class as well as my friends. For further information, I interviewed my university math professor, and my current mentor teacher in person. There were a total of 15 participants attending my research projects which including 13 online survey participants, and two interviews. According to my investigation, the result showed that more than half of my survey participants never heard about math learning disabilities, and about half of them had used digital technologies in learning math concepts. This research project is important to my own learning as a teacher candidate because it reminded me the challenges of using digital technologies, and also provided me some strategies when teaching math with technologies in an elementary class

This paper will focus on understanding the religious elements of Tempel Anneke’s confession, in an attempt to understand how her religious beliefs changed over the course of her trial. To complete this analysis, Tempel Anneke’s interrogations will be studied in detail for her references to God, Jesus, and the sacraments. This paper will argue that Tempel Anneke’s faith went through four distinct phases over the course of her trial due to the pressures she was experiencing from the magistrates and court officers
Reginald Scot and King James I: The Influence of Skepticism
Get PDFThe witch trials were less robust in England than in contiental Europe and the efforts of England\u27s first skeptic, Reginal Scot, may have contributed to the outcome. Scot\u27s efforts to debunk witchraft in his book The Discoverie of Witchcraft (1584), were done so in a logical, methodical and theological manner. King James VI of Scotland felt the need call out the doubters of witchcraft, and named Scot specifially, in his own work Daemonologie (1597) and upon becoming King James I of England, he banned Scot\u27s book. It is apparent, however, through the King\u27s changing attitudes and eventual desire to reveal the hoaxes for what they were it becomes evident that the information Scot sought to reveal did in deed have an impact on the King
