FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE THE FARMERS’ SELECTION IN CROPPING PATTERNS FOR INTERCROPPING-COCOA FARMING AT KOLAKA REGENCY
Selection of the cropping pattern is a way of farmer in managing their resources. Various reasons were expressed by farmers related to the characteristic of a type of plant suitable to the farmers’ expectation. The purpose of the research was to know the factors that influence the selection of farmers in cropping patterns. Multiple cropping is double planting system which is an effort to get the crops more than once from a single type or multiple types of crops on the same plot of land for one year. The analysis used was multinomial logit analysis. Positive factors that influence the selection of farmers in cropping patterns in intercropping cocoa farming were: the number of family members, guidance from agriculture instructors, age of farmers, farmer’s experience, the success of other farmers and land positions. Meanwhile, land size variable did not give effect on the selection of KKJ (cacao-coconut cashewnut pattern) and KKP (cacao-coconut-banana pattern) upon KKN (cacao-coconut-patchouli pattern). It could be seen from the comparison of the coefficient (β) which was greater than the value of the probability
COMMUNITY LANGUAGE LEARNING METHOD: ENHANCING SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS’ ENGLISH VOCABULARY AT SMP NEGERI 4 KOTA TERNATE
Vocabulary is a fundamental unit in learning a language. Vocabulary drives us in learning and understanding English skills (reading, listening, speaking, and writing). Without vocabulary, a reader, listener, speaker, or writer does nothing. This study attempted to carry out Community Language Learning Method to enhance secondary school students’ English vocabulary. Its hypotheses are (1) Community Language Learning Method cannot enhance secondary school students’ English vocabulary (H0) and (2) Community Language Learning Method enhance secondary school students’ English vocabulary (H1). This study used quantitative study by applying experimental design of one group pretest-posttest. The population was secondary school students at SMP Negri 4 Kota Ternate. The number of the population were 337 students. The sample was 35 students from the secondary school. They classified into two sexes namely; 15 male students and 20 female students. Simple random sampling technique used in taking the sample. The instrument applied in this study was a multiple choice test. It consisted of 30 items. The data were collected by applying pretest, treatment, and posttest. The data obtained were analyzed by using t-test formula from SPSS 16 version. Data findings and analysis on score mean and standard deviation indicated that pretest score mean was lower then posttest = (15.625), than for the posttest score mean was higher than pretest = (72.69). And, it compared standard deviation of pretest and posttest, standard deviation score of pretest and posttest showed difference each other. Standard deviation score of pretest = (15.625) and posttest = (10.707). it means that the independent variable had an effect on the total score of the subject (dependent variable). Moreover, t-test results showed that the average score in posttest x2 = 40.163. is greater than pretest x1 = 15.037. by applying the level of significance of 0.5. Therefore, its conclusion that the Community Language Learning Method is effective in teaching English vocabulary to the secondary school students. The alternative hypothesis stating that the Community Language Learning Method enhance students’ English vocabulary was accepted (H1)and null hypothesis stating that the Community Language Learning Method cannot enhance students’ English vocabulary was rejected (H0)
THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ASSESSMENT IN CURRICULUM 2013 IN ENGLISH SUBJECT OF SMPN BULUKUMBA
The objectives of this research are (1) to find out the description of the implementation of the Assessment in Curriculum 2013 in English Subject of SMPN Bulukumba. (2) to identify the problems that the teachers face when implementing the assessment of Curriculum 2013. (3) to find out the solution of the problems. This research is done in several piloting schools in SMP Negeri Bulukumba. They are schools that are pointed by the government to implement the curriculum 2013. In addition, there was also one school which is not a piloting school to continue to implement the Curriculum of 2013. The participant of this research is the English teachers of the first grade. To collect the data the researcher used tape recorder and conducted interview with the teachers and headmaster as additional data. In analysing the data, the researcher used qualitative method. According to Patton (1987) that qualitative method enables the researcher to interview and to interprete the result according to the real-life situation on the site. It allows the use of expressing language and the presence of the participants’ voices in text. This is important because voices brings in other aspects such as moods and tones that may contribute to the quality of data. The findings of this research showed that (1) The respondents had conducted the assessment of curriculum 2013 well in accordance with the assessment implementation guides, eventhough in another side, they haven’t understood it as a whole, lack of material in the text book, and still need more training. (2) There were five numbers of problem were found from the teachers’ perception on the assessment in curriculum 2013, such as: (a) Teachers face problems dealing with the curriculum changing particularly in assessment process, (b) Teachers face problems dealing with the lack of material in the text book, (c) Teachers face problems dealing with the assessment integration of listening to speaking and reading to writing, (d) Teachers face problems dealing with student’s attitude assessment, (e) Teachers face problems dealing with time allocation. (3) The problems solution were suggested by the teachers and headmaster. The points in the suggestion was the teacher should be able to adapt with the curriculum 2013, so would have been easy to implement it wel
LANGUAGE ACQUISITION AND LEARNING ON CHILDREN
Debating on Second Language Acquisition is not merely in terms of concept but also the real phenomena which postulate each research result. It needs more investigation on SLA due to the various realities on how children and adults acquire and learn any language. This research aims to describe how children and adults acquire and learn their first and second language. Participants consisted of children and adults whose ages determined by the researcher based on the purposive sampling technique. They were all six persons and chosen based on certain characteristics. Content analysis technique was applied in order to analyze all data gained. The result showed that since human alive inside mother’s womb especially at up to the age of three months, a fetus has tried to acquire sounds subconsciously. Language proficiency is really determined by three factors of Phased Process Approach namely Subconscious Acquisition, Conscious Acquisition, and Learning. The ideal time for learning something is begun from the age of 2 or 3 years old, by the fact that children have had the ability to bear a meaning on any input that they catch. The learning process has been begun within the process of acquisition. Based on the findings, it is clear that the children acquire the language step by step based on the development of the brain. Children acquire language is just the same as adult in acquiring the language although there will be some constraints faced by adult concern with the first language because adult has had the strong basis of the first language just than children

POTENCY OF DREGS COCONUT FERMENTATION (COCOS NUCIFERA) AS AN ALTERNATIVE FEED FOR FISH AND POULTRY 'PA-BIO’
People of Kolaka accustomed to using coconuts as well be used as a food supplement or a mixture of additives in processed foods, cakes and other confectionary. Therefore utilizing coconut pulp as feed fish and poultry should be made to minimize the potential for household waste. Feed from coconut pulp is a transfer of science and technology to the people who are expected to help poor people to be productive. Fermentation is one method to process coconut pulp into feed ingredients. The fermentation process is done by using spores of Aspergillus niger. The fermentation process is done in stages, by aerobic fermentation followed by anaerobic fermentation (enzymatic process). In short the process of making feed "PA-BIO" from coconut pulp is: Dregs of coconuts added water, stirred and steamed. Cooled and then stirred together with a mixture of minerals, Aspergillus niger spores are added and stirred again until evenly distributed. The mixture was then fermented aerobically and unaerobically. Dregs fermented and then dried and packaged for later in packing. Based on the results of research that the utilization of coconut dregs as cattle feed and fish is potential. Miskiyah et al. (2006), increase protein content after fermentation of coconut pulp 11.35% to 26.09%, or by 130% and decreased fat content of 11.39%. The results also showed that the feed produced quite safe for livestock, namely the aflatoxin content 20 ppb. Feed from coconut pulp is also good for fish farming. Goenarso et al. (2002) on tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus L.), the faster fish growth with increasing the feed protein content of 25%, 30%, 35%, 40% and 45%
