    THE QUALITY OF TEACHER-MADE TEST IN EFL CLASSROOM AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND ITS WASHBACK IN THE LEARNING

    One of essential phases in language learning is measurement. Test as a tool of measurement process must then be well constructed. The quality of test itself can be determined through test item analysis. However, in some occasions, teachers tend to ignore test item analysis because of time limitation and other responsibilities.  Referring to this problem, this research aimed to describe the quality of test items including the difficulty index, the discrimination index, the distractor index, and the reliability of the test and the Washback of teacher-made test on students’ motivation in learning English. It was conducted at Gamaliel Elementary School in academic year of 2016-2017. This case study utilized purposive sampling. In collecting the data, the researcher used interview, observation, and document analysis as the techniques of collecting data. The informants were an English teacher and students of Gamaliel Elementary School. The documents were students’ answer sheets. In analyzing test items, the researchers used ITEMAN program. The result of this study shows that the teacher-made test can be classified in good test. The test brings both positive and negative Washback in students’ motivation in learning. Therefore, it is recommended for the teacher to conduct test analysis as a way of evaluating and improving his teaching and learning and test itself as well as to encourage the students to study even though they are not confronted with a test

    IMPROVING THE STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL THROUGH DEBATE TECHNIQUE

    This study is based on the important of speaking skill. Speaking was important to be learnt because speaking is the way to communicate with other people in order to deliver opinion and express idea, but in fact, the students’ ability in speaking English is low. It is caused by several factors such as the elements of speaking like vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and fluency that must be mastered by students in order to be good English speaker. In this research, the researcher used debate technique to improve students’ speaking skill. The main objective of this study is to describe the implementation of debate technique in teaching speaking and to identify how much students’ speaking skill improvement after being taught by using debate technique. This study is classroom action research that was done in two cycles. The data collection was done using test and observation. The data from the test and observation that had been taken from every cycle were analyzed quantitatively. The implementation of debate technique in teaching speaking at the second year of SMA Negeri 1 Lasusua was conducted in two cycles including cycle one and cycle two. The participants of this study were 29 students in class XI/IPA 2. The result of this study showed that using debate technique can improve students’ speaking skill. This is proven by students’ test score that improved in every cycle. In the first cycle, the students’ average score was 64 and in the second cycle students got 78, Debate is an appropriate technique used to improve students’ speaking skill for the students at class XI/IPA 2. The result of this study is helpful information especially for the English teacher who is teaching at that class and all English teachers generally

    Processing business of banana flour is a business that is the utilization of agricultural products combined with local knowledge will result in a business that is not only interested in the business, but also will increase the added value of agricultural products and the main thing is to increase the value of bananas from economical low into a product which has a high economic value can increase the added value of farmers in terms of product diversification. The business group banana flour in the village Wowoli Toari District of Kolaka comprised of mothers of farm households collected in Welasih business groups and business groups of Sido Maju. Both partners develop business plantain flour and banana farmers as provider of raw materials. Raw materials used banana banana flour that has been processed through drying. Method of activities carried out in both partners is the application and practice of using a pressing machine, pressing the practice reduces packaging for air content in aluminum foil and practices as well as the sale process of drying banana banana flour heating process. Based on the results of the training activities of banana flour processing as a result of the diversification of the banana plant can be concluded that, their knowledge of cultivation and post-harvest handling and processing technologies banana flour in an effort to increase farmers' income. Through this training, the production of abundant banana plants can be overcome because farmers can cultivate their own, in an attempt diversification of food as well as value-added income of farmers.     LAND PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENT THROUGH GIVING FERTILIZER N, P, K AND PLANTING TIME OF PEANUT (ARACHIS HYPOGAEA L.) IN THE INTERCROPPING SYSTEM WITH MAIZE (ZEA MAYS L. )

    The purpose of this research is to investigate the productivity of land by N,P,K fertilizer and time of planting peanuts in intercropping systems with maize. This research was conducted applying experimental garden at Agriculture Faculty of Halu Oleo University, Kendari. The research was conducted in the dry season, from August to November 2015. The research was arranged meant by split plot design with two replications. The main plot is NPK fertilizer dose (S) consisted of three levels namely 56-36-25 kg ha-1 (S1), 90-54-25 kg ha-1 (S2) , 124-72-50 kg ha-1 (S3). The subplots was planting time of peanuts with maize intercropping (W) consisted of three levels, namely planting time of peanuts 10 days before planting (DBP) maize (W1), planting peanuts with maize simultaneously (W0), and planting peanuts 10 days after planting (DAP) maize (W2). There are nine treatment combinations of two factors mentioned. Each combination treatment was repeated three times, coupled with each of the three experimental plots for monoculture cropping systems of peanuts and maize. The total number of units was 45 units experimental. Data experiments were analyzed by using analysis of variance followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The results showed that the treatment time 10 DBP planting peanuts with maize to increase productivity, reduce competition index and efficient of the use fertilizer.     This research aims to identify the availability of input, effort and determine the feasibility of developing a business development of strategy of the District Polinggona. The method of this research was purposive sampling and was as many as 45 heads of household. Data collected consist of primary and secondary data. The resultof this research showed the availability of inputs in the research area.  Economically feasible to be developed because of the acceptance and the average obtained by the average total cost every goat breeder consecutively year of Rp. 10,120,888.89 and Rp. 9,733,614.43 with the value of R / C Ratio was 1.04. Obstacles encountered in the research area was the rainy season, still traditional inputs, using of care of livestock, lack of education and competition. Strategy needed to tackle the problem is to increase the production and quality of livestock as well as cooperating with the government Kolaka. The conclusion of this research were availability of the factors of production, encourage increased gains achieved so goats worthy effort in development and is supported by a development strategy that is effective in raising goat

This study is a literature research using descriptive research design. Sources of data in this study are a collection of poetry Horison Indonesian Literature, poetry internationally 2002. The data is text (lines and stanzas) that contain stylistic poetry. Data was collected by using read and record technique. Data were analyzed by using the theory of stylistic, with the objective approach. The results showed a significant choice of words connotation dominate poems by Abdul Hadi W.M. Meaningful words used connotation poet to style or personal characteristic (idiosyncrasy) poet, style or technique of exposition and style or technique of the highest quality literary achievement that is used to reach the top aesthetic poet poetry. The imagery are dominated by the image of feelings. The imagery feelings become style or characteristic (idiosyncrasy) personal, style or technique exposition technique and style or quality of the highest literary achievement. The sound is dominated by the sound of Kakafoni.     This research aims to; 1) determine the factors that affect the production of patchouli production, 2) determine the allocative efficiency of production factors patchouli farming, 3) determine the scale of business, 4) To determine the financial feasibility of farming patchouli. The sample in this study is a research location patchouli farmers totaling 50 respondents. Data were analyzed using Cobb-Douglass, Statistics Test Analysis, analysis of allocative efficiency, scale of operations and financial feasibility. This study shows that: 1) The results of the analysis test F known that simultaneously all variables significant impact significantly on the production, t test results showed that the only variable land area, insecticides, and plant spacing real impact significantly on production, while seeds and fertilizers (Urea and NPK), pesticides (herbicides and fungicides), labor and parts not significant 2) from the analysis of allocative efficiency is obtained that the widespread use of land and insecticides have not been efficient, from the economic aspect adding the proportion of these variables can still be done to maximize profits , while the seeds, fertilizers (Urea and NPK), pesticides (herbicides and fungicides) and labor efficient, 3) The results of the analysis of the business scale is known that farming patchouli in District Toari under conditions of increasing returns to scale means that they do increase production factor physically to maximize production, 4) The results of a financial analysis proves that farming patchouli in District Toari provide benefits for a total of land area of 37.9 hectares, obtained acceptance of Rp 674.1 million, with a total cost of USD 310 048 508, in order to obtain net income of Rp 340 130 475, while the value of NBCR 1.17, 51.77659 million NPV, IRR of 26.3%, average BEP Revenue USD 713 393, average BEP Production of 102kg, and average BEP Price Rp 3,376/kg

    LEXICAL FEATURES OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS’ WRITING ON RECOUNT TEXT

    This study was aimed to find out the lexical features of senior high school students’ writing on recount text. The corpus being analyzed in this study consists of 38 recount texts. The corpus was analyzed by using text analyzer online application. It was found that students’ vocabulary has exceeded over 853 words family. The lexical density of the students’ writing was 35.8%, and its beta alternative (readability factor) was 70.7. In accordance with the high frequency words appearing in the recount text, they were categorized into five prominent lexical classes. They are noun-pronoun to identify objects being involved in events, action verbs which refer to events, conjunction and time connectives to sequence the events, adverbs and adverbial phrases to indicate place and time, and adjectives to describe nouns. These five prominent word classes of recount text existed in the students’ writing

    THE EFFECT OF FERTILIZER UREA AND KCL ON ULTISOL AND INCEPTISOL TOWARD SOIL CHEMICAL PROPERTIES ON CORN ( ZEA MAYS L. ) GROWTH

    The research was conducted at green house of Agriculture Faculty, North Sumatera University. The research was done to study on the Urea and KCl fertilizer of chemical effect characteristic and growth of corn plant at Ultisols and Inceptisols. The research designed by randomized block factorial with two factors and four dosage replications. The first factors were kind of soils (Ultisols and Inceptisols). The second factor was Urea and KCl fertilizer, each others at 0 ppm, 100 ppm, 200 ppm, 300 ppm N and 0 ppm, 100 ppm, 200 ppm, 300 ppm K2O. The result showed that application of Urea and KCl fertilizers increased height and dry weight of corn plants, soil acidity, nitrogen content and exchangeable Kalium at Inceptisols. Dosage excess of Urea was more at 100 ppm N responsible on height and weight of corn plant

    The major problem of this research is racism reflected in Maya Angelou’s poems. The aim of this research is to find out how racism reflected in Maya Angelou’s poems. This research focuses in Maya Angelou’s poems especially about racism. The type of the research is qualitative research. The method of data collection is document analysis, and the technique of data collection is note taking, while the technique of data analysis is descriptive analysis in which the researcher interprets the text and the content of the poem. This research uses two data sources, namely primary and secondary data source. The primary data source of the study is Maya Angelou’s poem itself, from the collection of Maya Angelou published in 1994. The secondary data sources are Biography of the author Maya Angelou, websites in the internet about Maya Angelou, and other resources which support to analyze. Based on the sociological approach, the researcher concludes that Maya Angelou’s poems reflected racism based on the poem text and the expression in the poem. Maya Angelou’s poem also indicates types of racism such as slavery and discrimination.
