    Total of Escherichia coli Excreta Broiler Given Enterococcus sp. as Probiotics Candidate of Poultry

    The purpose of this study was to see the effect of giving Enterococcus sp. bacteria at Escherichia coli of excreta broiler. The research design used was a completely randomized design consisting of four treatments, three replications, and each replication had four broilers. The treatment given consisted of T1 (0 mL/L), T2 (1 mL/L), T3 (3 mL/L), and T4 (5 mL/L) control treatments. The number of colonies of Enterococcus sp. given through drinking water every day, namely 107 CFU / mL. The results of the study respectively showed the number of Escherichia coli in the treatment of T1 (Log 7.54 CFU/g), T2 (Log 7.53 CFU/g), T3 (Log 7.48 CFU/g), and T4 (Log 6.78 CFU/g). The colony total of Escherichia coli of broiler excreta decreases with increasing doses of Enterococcus sp. It is shown that Enterococcus sp. has an antimicrobial compound activity which can inhibit pathogen growth in broiler digestive tract so that it has the potential to be developed as a probioti

    Aluminum (Al 3+) is rhizotoxic ions in the soil (mineral) acid. Al activities increases with increasing soil acidity, below pH 5.5 the solubility of Al 3+ cations will increase. High level of soluble can cause interference with metabolic processes and plant physiology. Cumulatively, the physiology of metabolic disorders and initially looked at the root system. The tip of the root and lateral roots become thickened and hair and roots become lower, causing a decrease in root length and root tissue enlargement thus inhibiting the growth of roots, the absorption of nutrients and water, will further lower the growth, production and productivity of crops. Although Al disrupt metabolism and suppress the growth of the plant, until a certain threshold of adverse effects in Al still be tolerated, depending on the type of plant and the level of activity of Al. Tolerance of crops to Al can be expressed through two mechanisms, namely: external tolerance mechanism and internal tolerance mechanism.     AbstractVocabulary learning often implies that there is no other way of learning than to memorize the words. This research showed that guessing meaning from context procedure can accommodate students in learning new vocabulary items. Since students were not equipped with a dictionary all of the time, it is essential to seek for an alternative in learning vocabulary. One of the alternative techniques in vocabulary learning was guessing meaning from context. The purpose of the study was to investigate the implementation of the guessing the meaning from the context in junior high schools in Yogyakarta. The research participants of this study were 30 students from different classes from a junior high school in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The researcher conducted a pre-test at the beginning and a post-test at the end of the research. The result of the pre-test and post-test showed that there was an increase of students’ vocabulary mastery. The questionnaire was used to confirm the result of pre-test and post-test comparison. The result of the questionnaire showed that guessing meaning from context procedure was helpful for the students to understand word meaning

    FROM INLAND TO OUTLAND: EXPERIENCES OF NON-NATIVE EXPATRIATE TEACHERS TEACHING IN A FOREIGN CONTEXT

    The numbers of English language learners and limited domestic English language teachers have grown exponentially in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as to the ASEAN region over the past decades due to the demand of globalization. Given the huge cultural and linguistic diversity among learners, educating these populations of English language learners can be a challenging but also beneficial for foreign language teachers. This study aimed to analyse the experiences of fifteen Non-native English Speaking Foreign Teachers (NNESFT) teaching in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. The results of this study suggested that although teachers’ reasons in teaching English language in a foreign classroom were more extrinsic reasons rather that intrinsic and altruistic. NNESFT recognized benefits of teaching in foreign classroom, namely, financial aspects, personal development, and building cultural awareness. Meanwhile, challenges were reported include as a non-native English speaking teachers in a foreign classroom, on the part of textbooks and curriculum, and cultural differences in the classroom. Implications were discussed in light of the findings and recommendations formulated for future research directions

    USE OF HAND GESTURES THROUGH DIGITAL VIDEO TO IMPROVE PHONEMIC AWARENESS AMONG YEAR 2 PUPILS

    Pupils need phonemic awareness so that they have the ability to manipulate the individual sounds in words. However, they sometimes focused more on reading comprehension rather than recognizing the letter sounds which build the words for reading. This action research was designed to improve the pupils’ phonemic awareness by using hand gestures through digital video and it involved three cycles. The participants involved were 24 Year 2 pupils from one of the primary schools in Malaysia. Three different data collection methods used were tests, pupils’ work and observation. The findings showed there was an improvement of mean scores from 40% in Test 1 to 91% in Test 2. The pupils’ oral exercises also improved from 52.14% to 96.07%.  The results from the observation checklist and notes also showed they became more aware in learning English through their increased communication and active participation in the lesson. This shows that the technique was able to help pupils to learn and remember the sounds of phonemes as they could read the words correctly. It is suggested to carry out further research to develop the pupils’ skills in phonemic awareness through body movements in addition to hand gestures

    Characteristics of Soil Fertility Affecting the Rice Fields Productivity in Bogor Regency

    The purpose of this study was to determine the parameters of soil fertility in rice fields and the effect of soil fertility on paddy productivity in Bogor Regency. This research was conducted in the districts of Cileungsi, Darmaga and Leuwiliang, Bogor Regency. The location selection was done deliberately based on the location of rice production facilities with Ciherang and Inpari varieties. Sampling was conducted at several sampling points at each location. Each sub-district was taken 8 samples or 24 in total, then analyzed in the laboratory. Data processing using multiple regression with a dummy. The results showed that the soil in Bogor Regency was generally acidic, where soil fertility characteristics with organic C content were low to moderate, nitrogen was very low to moderate, P was low to high, K was very low to moderate, CEC was moderate to high, and saturation bases (KB) are moderate to high. Soil biology, namely total bacteria, total fungi, total solvent P bacteria, Azotobacter sp., And Rhizobium sp. Are generally low to moderate. Variable characteristics of soil fertility in the form of organic C, Nitrogen (N), K2O HCl 25%, and CEC significantly influence rice productivity. Soil fertility in the three districts is almost the same and does not affect the productivity of rice fields. While the productivity of rice fields with Inpari varieties is higher than those grown by Ciherang varieties.     The Southeast Sulawesi government has designated Kolaka Timur as one of the cocoa production centers in Southeast Sulawesi. One of the successes of the superior seed assembly business depends on the availability of complete and accurate information about the potential of cocoa to be chosen as elders for subsequent development, so that yield analysis and early selection in the analysis of genetic diversity of smallholder cocoa have been developed in that location. This research was carried out using the Split-Plot Design (RPT). Sampling was carried out in 3 main locations (L) with an area of ± 2 ha, in each of the main locations divided into three plots (P) namely plots one Sulawesi 2 clones, plots two local clones and plots 3 MCC02 clones. A sampling of cacao leaves and fruit was taken as many as 30 samples with three replications per location. The results showed that cocoa which has the potential for good yields to be developed in the East Kolaka Regency based on the analysis of the component production of dry seed weight was the MCC02 cocoa clone with an average of 35.33 grams of fruit (L2P3) respectively.     The Implementation Of Discovery Learning Model To Improve Students’ Learning Activities and Cognitive Abilities Of SMP Negeri 1 Wakorumba Utara

     This study aims to improve student learning activities and cognitive abilities through discovery learning model on the material characteristics and classifications of living creatures in class VII 1 of SMP Negeri 1 Wakorumba Utara. This research was conducted in the 2nd semester of the academic year 2015/2016. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) with three learning cycles. Each cycle goes through four stages: (1) planning; (2) implementing actions; (3) observation and (4) reflection. The data source of this study was an assessment using observation sheets of student learning activities, evaluation questions as tests of cognitive abilities and observation sheets of teacher activities in cycle I, cycle II and cycle III. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The success of the learning activities of the students in cycle I achieved a mean score of 3.1, cycle II 3.5 and cycle III 3.5. The average achievement of the cognitive abilities of students in the first cycle was 66.36. Cycle II was 79.09 and Cycle III was 78.18. The mean achievement of teacher activity in the first cycle was 3.2, the second cycle was 3.6 and the third cycle was 3.7. Based on the results of the study concluded that the application of discovery learning models can improve learning activities and cognitive abilities of students on the subject matter of the characteristics and classifications of living creatures of class VII1 students of SMP Negeri 1 Wakorumba Utara.                                                   Keywords:  Discovery Learning Model, Student Learning Activities, Student Cognitive AbilitiesÂ

    Yield Evaluation and Selection of M6 Wheat Mutant adaptive to Medium Land

    Wheat is a sub-tropical plant that can adapt well at altitudes of 1000 - 3000 m above sea level and requires relatively low temperatures. At this height, wheat crops in Indonesia are unable to compete with horticultural crops with higher economic value. This causes national wheat production to be very low and results in high wheat imports. Therefore, wheat varieties are needed that can grow and develop in Indonesia in the low to medium plains. The study aimed to test the adaptive mutant population descent in the middle plains to prepare multi-location tests and release of varieties. The benefit of this research is obtaining potential strains from high-temperature adaptive wheat mutants in the lowlands. This research was conducted using a randomized block design with three replications. The treatment consisted of 16 M6 Wheat mutants and four comparative varieties. The results showed that the genotypes of wheat mutants that had high production in M6 propagation in the central plains were N 350 3.7.1 (2.74 t. ha-1), N 350 3.6.2 (2.33 t.ha-1) and N 350 3.1.3 (2.26 t.ha-1).     This study aims to improve the understanding of biology concepts of students of class XI IPA 3 in SMA Negeri 5 Kendari by applying Jigsaw type cooperative learning models. This research was conducted in the second semester of the academic year 2013/2014. This type of research was a classroom action research (PTK) Kemmis and Taggart with three learning cycles. Each cycle goes through four stages: (1) planning; (2) implementing actions; (3) observation and (4) reflection. The data source of this research was the measurement of students’ worksheets as a test of understanding concepts in cycle I, cycle II and cycle III. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive analysis. From the results of the study, it was found that students' understanding of biology concepts in the first cycle with a mean of 77.68%; the second cycle was 87.20% and the third cycle was 91.37%. It can be concluded that the implementation of the Jigsaw cooperative learning model can improve the understanding of the biology concepts of students of class XI IPA 3 at SMA Negeri 5 Kendari.  Keywords:  Jigsaw, Conceptual Understandin
