Performance Evaluation Based on the Balanced Scorecard in Port Health Authority

Balanced Scorecard is a performance management concept that is used in public organizations including public government. The study aims were the application of elements of the Balanced Scorecard to measure the performance of public organizations. We used descriptive and evaluative research with a cross-sectional design. The sampling technique in this study was simple random sampling. The variables studied are the Balanced Scorecard indicator, namely: customer perspective, financial perspective, internal business perspective, and learning and growth perspective. The result showed that the performance of public organizations in terms of customer perspective showed good performance (3.3-3.9: mean 3.6). The indicator from a financial perspective in 2019 has succeeded in absorbing the Regional Revenue Budget of 98.39% with an increase of 133.99%. The internal business perspective is evidenced by the existence of vaccination services for Hajj and Umrah. The response time is only 10 minutes by using online admission. Learning and growth perspective with mean = 3,2-3,8. (good category). It is necessary to improve e-services by technology information and focus based on consumer's desires

Zero field splitting parameter of Mn2+ doped guanidine zinc sulphate crystal -a theoretical study

A theoretical investigation of crystal field parameters (CFP) and zero-field splitting (ZFS) parameter D of Mn2+ doped guanidine zinc sulphate (GZS) crystals at room temperature (RT) is done with the help of superposition model and the perturbation theory. The ZFS parameter D determined here is in good agreement with the experimental value reported earlier. The conclusion of experimental study that Mn2+ substitutes for Zn2+ in GZS is supported by our theoretical investigation. The values of D without and with local distortion are 11174.3×10-4 cm-1 and 702.4 ×10-4 cm-1, respectively, while the experimental value is 702.0×10-4 cm-1

Effective Work Cultures: The Alignment Between Marketing/Communications and HR Efforts

The complex nature of organizational culture and structures often rely on departmental cooperation and teamwork. The current paper focuses on two dominant organizational functions: HR and marketing/communication.  It is common for HR to oversee the internal functions of an organization related to onboarding, training and exiting practices. In comparison, marketing/communication functions present the outward or external facing communication related to organizational mission, purpose and strategy. Both functions need to work seamlessly to support employees and customers alike, while expanding strategic and marketplace reach. Implications for enhancing a collaborative work culture are discussed. &nbsp

Validation of the International Engineering Motivation Construct with Multigroup Analysis

The purpose of this study was twofold. First, the study aimed to validate multicultural workforce motivation in engineering. Second, it aimed to perform a subgroup analyses of the identified model to determine if the theoretical model is valid across demographics. Data were collected from a total of 268 employees working in the United States either as a natural citizen or with an Employment Authorization Document (EAD). The theoretical framework used in the study was Herzberg’s Motivation-Hygiene Theory, which is suggested by many (Ben Slimane, 2017; Shuck and Herd, 2012; Singh & Bhattacharjee, 2019). The instruments used were Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) suggested by Weiss et al. (1967) and the Vancouver Index of Acculturation (VIA) suggested by Ryder et al., (2000). Data were collected using crowdsourcing agency.  Both exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) were used in the study. The model was tested with a specific bias test and for model invariance at both the global and local levels. A multi-group difference test was conducted on the participants’ industry, position, birth country, ethnicity, gender, age group, and educational background to confirm or deny configural, metric and scalar invariance. The study validated the results from prior research that reported different number of factors for the motivation construct.  The results of the study suggest that even old theories from a western country, such as Herzberg’s Motivation-Hygiene Theory, still could be valid in multicultural organizations.  Recommendations for future research are provided

Skills Shift and Organisational Sustainability: Perspectives for the Future of Work

Organisational sustainability becomes a nascent concept in the world of business and in academic community. The insurance industry sustainability is beleaguered with low performance of business process, absence of lean structure, poor organisational creativity and excessive talent poaching; suggestively exacerbated by low demand in skills shift (organisational knowledge, critical thinking skill, problem-solving skill and analytical skill). The article addresses this gap by investigating the effect of skills shift on organisational sustainability of selected insurance firms in Lagos State, Nigeria. Methodologically, cross-sectional survey research design was adopted. The findings showed that skills shift had positive significant effect on organisational sustainability (Adj R2 = 0.704, F(2, 337) = 404.206, p < 0.05). The research concludes that skills shift affects organisational sustainability of the selected Insurance companies in Lagos State, Nigeria. The research highlights the need for insurance business to move towards investing in capabilities, knowledge improvement, enhancing critical thinking skill, problem-solving skill, and analytical skill which are valuable enablers of organisational sustainability. These findings suggest unique implications for chief executives, managers, regulators and policy makers

    A Study on Sum Formulas of Generalized Pentanacci Sequence: Closed Forms of the Sum Formulas ∑_{k=0}ⁿx^{k}W_{k} and ∑_{k=1}ⁿx^{k}W_{-k}

In this paper, closed forms of the sum formulas k=0nxkWk\sum_{k=0}^{n}x^{k}W_{k} and k=1nxkWk\sum_{k=1}^{n}x^{k}W_{-k} for generalized Pentanacci numbers are presented. As special cases, we give summation formulas of Pentanacci, Pentanacci-Lucas, and other fifth-order recurrence sequences

Holistic Analysis of Scheduled Tribe College Students

Education is one of the primary agents of transformation towards development. Education is in fact, an input not only for economic development of tribes but also for inner strength of the tribal communities which helps them in meeting the new challenges of life. (KabitaKumariSahu, 2014) Mixed methodology and Follow up Explanation model design is used in the research. Purposive sampling technique has been used for collecting data through Online questionnaire and in-depth interviews. Holistic analysis focuses on analyzing socio, economic and political order of students. The major findings include the influence of peer, adaptability of students, participation roles, challenges faced, and other components. The suggestions would be based on the need in the institution by working accordingly to the instructions of the UGC Guidelines to help build an inclusive discrimination free learning environment. (UGC, 2018

Thoughts and Experiences with Mental Health, Substance Use, and Crime during the COVID-19 Lockdown

The COVID-19 lockdown has taken a major toll on people’s lives.  This study set out to explore how the shutdown has affected families and psychological health.  Data were collected from 637 respondents.  Statistical findings revealed that the majority of people were experiencing increased levels of depression, stress, anxiety, and loneliness.  The majority of respondents also felt that various social problems, such as drug and alcohol use, domestic violence, and victimization, were also worsening because of the crisis.  There was also a general belief that there would be an increasing need for mental health services across society. Even though the majority of participants felt that this pandemic has placed a major strain on their families, nearly 8 out 10 stated that their family relationships have improved. Those from the lower-class seem to have been impacted the most (e.g., stress, depressive symptoms, anxiety) and have the highest concerns about crime and violence. Women were also more likely than men to be experiencing increased mental health issues and to be concerned about larger social problems. Other illuminating findings were found concerning ethnicity and age in regard to mental health and social problems (e.g., crime, victimization, domestic violence).  This study has brought forth additional findings to help elucidate how the ongoing COVID-19 stay-at-home orders are affecting people’s lives and overall functioning.&nbsp
