English Speaking Anxiety Among High Degree Students of English Education Study Programs Bau-Bau Universities
This study aimed to analyze the levels of speaking anxiety among students, evaluate the key factors contributing to students' speaking anxiety when using English, and explore strategies based on how students cope with anxiety. This study used a mixed-method design with 75 quantitative and 15 qualitative samples of 5th-semester students from Dayanu Ikhsanuddin University Bau-Bau in the 2023/2024 academic year. The instruments used were questionnaires and interviews. The content validity of the instruments was determined by seeking consideration from one expert (expert judgment) who stated that the instruments used were valid after revision. The reliability estimation of the instruments was calculated using the alpha coefficient (Cronbach's Alpha) and deemed reliable. To determine the factors that contribute to speaking anxiety and the fear of making mistakes among students when using English, and to collect data, descriptive analysis was used for quantitative data and thematic analysis for qualitative data. The results showed that the majority of students experienced moderately high levels of speaking anxiety. Specifically, only 6.67% of students had very low anxiety, 8% had moderately low anxiety, 16% had moderate anxiety, 38.67% had moderately high anxiety, and 30.67% experienced very high anxiety. Then, from the results of the interview, various anxiety factors and strategies for dealing with anxiety were identified, and results of the interview, the authors concluded several factors that cause' speaking anxiety, where anxiety factors included internal and external factors consisting of five points, namely: Fear of making mistakes, Lack of self-confidence, Lack of Mastery of Material, Fear of Negative Evaluation, Lack of practice speaking. Teachers' Perceptions of the Implementation of the Blue Ocean Strategy at LKP Mathematics Indonesia Wonogiri in Developing Numeracy Competence in Mathematics: A Case Study in Boyolali
This study is motivated by the importance of strengthening numeracy skills among teachers as a fundamental competency in supporting the success of the learning process, particularly in addressing the increasingly complex challenges of numeracy literacy. Teachers are expected not only to understand numeracy concepts theoretically but also to integrate numeracy skills into daily learning in a contextual and meaningful manner for students. To support this need, LKP Matematika Indonesia organizes a training program designed to enhance teachers' numeracy understanding and skills through an applied and problem-solving-based approach. This study aims to describe teachers' perceptions of the implementation of the Blue Ocean Strategy by LKP Matematika Indonesia Wonogiri in developing numeracy competencies. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method. Data sources consist of primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected through in-depth interviews with informants who met the criteria, namely elementary school teachers in Boyolali Regency who participated in the LKP Matematika Indonesia seminar. Secondary data were obtained from various sources, such as books, journal articles, and other relevant references that support this study. The data analysis in this research follows the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, & Saldana, which includes data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the implementation of the Blue Ocean Strategy by LKP Matematika Indonesia Wonogiri in numeracy training for elementary school teachers in Boyolali has generated positive perceptions. Overall, the application of the Blue Ocean Strategy in numeracy training by LKP Matematika Indonesia Wonogiri is considered an innovation with significant potential to improve elementary school teachers' numeracy competencies in Boyolali. However, to ensure the effective implementation of this strategy, a more inclusive approach, continuous training, and adequate resource support for teachers are required
The Assessment Innovation: AKM Questions With A Bengkulu Cultural Context For Students' Mathematical Reasoning
The Minimum Competency Assessment or Asesmen Kompetensi Minimum (AKM) is an improvement in education quality and learning outcome evaluation applied to the independent curriculum. This study focuses on developing a context-based numeracy assessment instrument for Bengkulu using the AKM model approach to measure students' mathematical reasoning abilities. The type of research is research and development (R&D) using the 4D method, namely define (definition), design (design), develop (development), and disseminate (dissemination). Data was collected using questionnaires and tests. During the development stage, expert/logical validity testing and development testing were conducted, while during the dissemination stage, field testing was conducted to measure students' reasoning abilities, and the final draft of the developed questions was distributed on a limited basis. Expert/logical validity was measured using Aiken’s V index, and reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s Alpha. The analysis of the questions showed that they are suitable for use and have good item quality, as they meet the criteria for validity, reliability, and have appropriate levels of difficulty and discriminative power. Additionally, based on the field test results, the questions are capable of developing and improving students' mathematical reasoning abilities, with the analysis showing that students' mathematical reasoning ability in solving the questions reached 32.3%
EFL Indonesian Students’ Voices: Quilbott as a Viable an AI Assistance in Writing
QuillBot is a practical option for students seeking AI assistance in English writing, offering a viable alternative to enhance their writing skills. By providing efficient AI-driven rewriting capabilities, QuillBot aids students in improving their English writing by offering a reliable and user-friendly platform for linguistic refinement. This study aims to investigate students' voices about the Quilbott application as a viable AI assistance in English writing. Descriptive qualitative research is used in this study. The participants in this study consisted of 6 seventh-semester students currently engaged in writing projects at Universitas Hamzanwadi chosen through purposive sampling. Interviews were conducted to gather the data, and documentation, such as audio recordings during the interviews, was employed to reinforce the research findings. The results of the study indicate that QuillBot significantly aids students in their projects by assisting in paraphrasing, improving grammar, enhancing vocabulary, elevating writing quality, and preventing plagiarism. In conclusion, QuillBot emerges as a practical and effective alternative for students seeking assistance in English writing through the integration of AI technology
Ethnomathematics Based Comics of Al-Akbar Mosque Surabaya for Learning Plane Shapes
Mathematics is one of the main subjects that has an important position in education, one of the materials in elementary school mathematics lessons for grade II is flat shapes. However, many students still view metamathematics as an abstract and difficult to understand subject. So there needs to be innovation to increase student motivation and learning outcomes, namely combining ethnomathematics with comic learning media. The purpose of this development research is (1) to describe the process of developing ethnomathematics-based comics on data geometry material; (2) to determine the feasibility of the results of developing ethnomathematics-based comics on flat geometry material; (3) To determine students' responses to ethnomathematics-based comics on flat geometry material. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method. The development process follows the 4D model which is only limited to 3 stages, namely, Define, Design, and Develop. Data collection methods use interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis techniques use descriptive analysis to describe the process and descriptive quantitative analysis to determine the feasibility of the product. The results of the study indicate the feasibility of ethnomathematics-based comic products for learning flat shapes in elementary school class II from the validation results of several experts including validation by material experts obtaining an average value of 95% with the criteria of "Very Feasible", validation by media experts obtaining an average value of 81.8% with the criteria of "Very Feasible", validation by language experts obtaining an average value of 91.6% with the criteria of "Very Feasible", and student responses at SDN Ngagelrejo I/396 Surabaya obtaining an average value of 92.91% with the criteria of "Very Feasible"
The Tradition of Eating Bajamba in the Marriage Ceremony of Minangkabau Cultural Diversity and Local Wisdom in Solok Regency
The tradition of eating bajamba is one of the traditional Minangkabau cultures that aims to create togetherness between families and the surrounding community. Eating bajamba uses a large container in the form of a plate that serves a variety of traditional Minangkabau foods. The tradition of eating bajamba is carried out in marriage ceremonies, especially in Solok Regency. The tradition of eating bajamba is carried out after the implementation of the marriage contract. The tradition of eating bajamba in marriage ceremonies is related to the traditional Minangkabau musical instrument, namely Bansi. This study wants to examine the implementation of the tradition of eating bajamba, as well as its relationship with the traditional Minangkabau musical instrument, namely Bansi in marriage ceremonies in Solok Regency. This type of research uses qualitative and descriptive methods. The data of this research is the community in Solok Regency. The data sources of this research were obtained from observations, interviews, and other scientific sources. The research instruments used were interviews and observations. The results of the research that have been analyzed and described explain that the marriage ceremony in Solok Regency has a series of stages that must be carried out in accordance with the provisions that have been set, but there are variations such as the tradition of bararak and the tradition of eating bajamba. The tradition of eating bajamba in marriage ceremonies in Solok Regency has several important stages, such as delivering speeches, serving food, types of food served, and systematics of togetherness in the process of eating bajamba traditions. Bansi is related to the tradition of eating bajamba in delivering speeches. Bansi is sounded with a subtle and small sound as an accompaniment to the delivery of speeches related to the tradition of eating bajamba, grooms, and brides
Exploring Opportunities for the Islamic Republic of Iran Post-Ukraine War
The Ukraine war, as one of the most significant recent geopolitical developments, has created new opportunities and challenges for the Islamic Republic of Iran. This article examines the impact of this war on Iran's economic, diplomatic, and geopolitical position and proposes strategies for leveraging these opportunities. The present study employs a descriptive-analytical method and utilizes secondary data, including international reports, scholarly articles, and economic data. The theoretical framework of this research is based on the theories of realism, neoliberalism, and international political economy. In the economic analysis section, the opportunities arising from energy market developments and regional transit are explored, while challenges related to sanctions and infrastructural weaknesses are discussed. From a diplomatic and geopolitical perspective, this article assesses Iran's relations with global powers, regional rivalries, and the prospects for international cooperation. Furthermore, potential future risks, including the intensification of sanctions, shifts in Chinese and Russian policies, and domestic economic fluctuations, are analyzed. The findings indicate that Iran must undertake economic reforms, enhance its diplomatic strategies, and develop its transit and energy infrastructure to capitalize on these opportunities. Finally, recommendations are provided to reduce dependency on a single trade partner, strengthen international cooperation, and enhance economic stability
The Implementation of Problem Based Learning Approach to Improve Students’ Writing Skills
The aims of this research are to find out how far the effectiveness of problem-based learning (PBL) in enhancing students' writing and identifying the key elements contributing to students’ improvement in English learning. This study requires qualitative and quantitative method. The subjects were 30 students from SMPN 2 BANTUL in grade VII and this study was conducted in two cycles. The instruments of this study were tasks, tests and field notes in collecting data. Then, the results indicated that the implementation of PBL positively impacted students' writing abilities. The PBL approach incorporated real-life problems to inspire writing, group discussions, research and inquiry facilitated by worksheets, drafting, creating a descriptive text report, group presentations, and collaborative critique. Assessment through tests demonstrated a significant increase in average scores, rising from 49.38 in pre-test and then in post-test Cycle 1 was 58.88. After that, the post-test in the last cycle was 80.94 after. In summary, the research concluded that PBL was a beneficial strategy for enhancing descriptive text for writing skills among seventh-grade students at SMPN 2 Bantul
Unlocking Scotland’s Tourism Potential: How Perceived Value Drives Traveler Satisfaction and Visit Intentions
This study explores the critical factors influencing traveller satisfaction and visit intentions to Scotland’s renowned tourism destinations, focusing on perceived value dimensions: conditional, emotional, functional, social, and epistemic. As Scotland's tourism sector shows promising recovery post-pandemic, understanding the drivers of visitor behaviour is essential for leveraging its economic potential. By applying the Consumption Value Theory, this research addresses key gaps in existing literature, offering a detailed analysis of how perceived value dimensions influence satisfaction and the likelihood of revisiting. Data were collected from 267 tourists visiting major destinations such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, and the Highlands and analysed using Smart-PLS software. Findings suggest that enhancing these value dimensions can significantly boost satisfaction and revisit intentions. Practical recommendations include leveraging Scotland’s distinctive experiential offerings, optimising resource use, and integrating social media influencers into marketing strategies. The study provides valuable insights for improving service quality and fostering economic growth through increased visitor satisfaction and visit intentions
Improving the English Teaching & Learning Process and English Writing Skills of Grade Eight Students at Junior High School in Yogyakarta through Coggle Mind Mapping in the Academic Year 2024/2025
This classroom action research aims to improve second-grade students' English teaching and learning process and writing skills at Junior High School in Yogyakarta by utilizing Coggle mind mapping. The study involved an English teacher as the researcher and another English teacher as a collaborator. The subjects were eighth-grade students of the Junior High School in Yogyakarta in their first semester. Conducted over one month in two cycles, data collection methods included observations, interviews, and students’ writing tasks. This classroom action research followed Kemmis and McTaggart’s (1998) action research model, as adapted by Burns (2010), which consists of four steps: reconnaissance, planning, action, observation, and reflection. Qualitative data were gathered from observations and interviews and analyzed using Miles et al.’s (2014) technique. Quantitative data were obtained from students’ writing performance, measured through pre-tests, progress tests, and post-tests. The final analysis compared pre-test scores with progress-test and post-test results to assess improvement. Data triangulation, combining observations, interviews, and tests, was used to confirm students’ writing skills enhancement. Based on the research results, using Coggle mind mapping in this study was believed to enhance the English teaching and learning process, improving students’ writing skills, particularly in terms of organization and content. Moreover, students’ engagement in the learning process also increased. They enjoyed the teaching-learning process, felt motivated, and were more confident about participating in the writing task. The improvement was also supported by the students’ writing scores, which increased by 17.88 points, from 53.11 in the pre-test to 70.99 in the post-test
