The Effect of Social Media on the Language Use of Teenagers in Makassar
The rapid rise of social media has significantly influenced how teenagers in urban areas like Makassar communicate. This study investigates the impact of social media platforms—such as Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp—on teenage language use, focusing on vocabulary, grammar, and communication styles. Employing a mixed-methods approach that includes surveys of 150 teenagers, interviews, and content analysis, the findings reveal that 85% of respondents frequently use internet slang and abbreviations, while 70% incorporate English loanwords in everyday speech. Common expressions like “DM,” “OOTD,” and “LOL” are now part of their daily lexicon, reflecting a shift toward a more globalized and informal linguistic environment. Qualitative analysis shows a trend toward simplified grammar in casual contexts and a growing reliance on emojis and memes for emotional expression. While these developments promote creativity, adaptability, and digital fluency, they also present challenges to formal language proficiency, especially in academic writing. This study concludes that social media acts as a double-edged sword—encouraging innovative language use while potentially weakening formal communication skills. It recommends integrating digital literacy and language awareness into school curricula to help students navigate and balance the demands of both informal and formal language contexts
A Regression Analysis of Self-Affirmation and Speaking Anxiety on EFL Students’ Oral Performance: A Mixed-Methods Study in an Indonesian Islamic High School
This study investigates the extent to which self-affirmation and speaking anxiety influence English oral performance among Indonesian EFL senior high school students. Employing a mixed-methods explanatory sequential design, the research involved 30 eleventh-grade students from SMAIT Wahdah Islamiyah Makassar. Quantitative data were collected through validated questionnaires and speaking assessments, followed by in-depth interviews with five selected participants to gain qualitative insights. Multiple regression analysis indicated that neither self-affirmation nor speaking anxiety significantly predicted speaking performance, although anxiety demonstrated a marginally negative trend. Descriptive statistics showed wide variations in both psychological and performance measures. Meanwhile, qualitative findings revealed that self-affirmation contributed to mental readiness and reduced nervousness, while speaking anxiety often impaired fluency and focus during oral tasks. Thematic analysis emphasized that self-affirmation alone was insufficient to improve performance but played a meaningful emotional regulatory role when paired with consistent speaking practice. The study contributes to the limited body of research on psychological interventions in Indonesian EFL classrooms by offering empirical evidence and context-specific insights. It highlights that while self-affirmation may not yield immediate performance gains, its potential as an affective support mechanism remains valuable. This research fills a gap in current literature by exploring how self-affirmation operates in tandem with anxiety within a high-school EFL setting in Indonesia—a context underrepresented in previous studies
The Use of Role Play Model to Develop Vocabulary Mastery of Grade Ten Students at SMA Negeri 2 Palu
This study, entitled The Use of Role Play Model to Develop Vocabulary Mastery of Grade Ten Students at SMA Negeri 2 Palu, aims to examine the effectiveness of the role play model in enhancing students’ vocabulary mastery. The research was motivated by the observation that many tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Palu struggle with limited vocabulary, which is often caused by low motivation, monotonous teaching methods, and a lack of confidence in using English. The study employed a pre-experimental design involving one group of 32 students. Data were collected using pre-test and post-test instruments administered before and after the implementation of role play activities based on real-life scenarios. The results showed a significant increase in vocabulary scores, with the mean rising from 12.06 (pre-test) to 18.75 (post-test). Statistical analysis using SPSS revealed that the data met normality and homogeneity assumptions, and the Independent Sample t-Test indicated a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), confirming the positive effect of the role play model. These findings support the conclusion that role play is an effective, interactive, and engaging strategy to develop students\u27 vocabulary mastery

The results show that the mean score of the experimental class significantly developed from 36.30 to 56.54, while the mean score of the control class developed from 38.23 to 42.64. The hypothesis testing results also show that the t-counted value (3.188) was higher than the t-table value (1.688) at a significance level of 0.05, thus confirming that the use of English videos is effective in developing students\u27 speaking skills of grade VIII of SMP Negeri 12 Palu
Milk Caramel Candy Quality by Added Sugar and Red Ginger (Zingiber officinale var rubrum)
Caramel candy or toffee is a confectionery product made from basic sugar, glucose syrup, milk, fat, and salt ingredients. Sugar plays a role in the formation of brown color and caramelization, while the addition of red ginger acts as a flavor enhancer for caramel candy. The reaction results in the production of melanoid and antioxidant compounds. It also affects the taste, texture, aroma, and appeal of caramel candy. This research aimed to analyze the effects of the use and interaction of sugar and red ginger on antioxidants, organoleptic tests, and color L*, as well as chemical (reducing sugar and water content) changes in caramel candy products. This research design used a completely randomized design with a factorial pattern, with factor A adding sugar (0, 5, 10, 15) %; factor B adding red ginger juice (0, 2, 4, 6) %. This research shows that sugar and ginger juice can increase the A* color value, ginger taste, caramel taste, color, ginger, and caramel aroma. Meanwhile, increasing sugar and ginger juice can reduce the L* color value, antioxidant activity, and water content. Adding 15% sugar and 4% red ginger juice is the best for making red ginger juice.

The Institutional Restructuring of the Chinese Communist Party under Xi Jinping
This paper investigates the internal restructuring of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) under Xi Jinping’s leadership and its influence on policy-making and foreign policy behavior. Drawing on an integrated theoretical framework that combines the Bureaucratic Politics Model and Two-Level Game Theory, the study examines how China\u27s increasingly centralized political architecture allows for a more coherent implementation of policies from the top down. The paper argues that the restructuring of the CCP through the consolidation of decision-making power within the Politburo Standing Committee, the elevation of Party-led commissions, and the expanding control over state bureaucracies not only enhance administrative efficiency but also to strategically align domestic priorities with China’s international ambitions. Domestic economic policies, often managed by Party-led bureaucracies, now function as instruments of external leverage. This analysis contributes to a more nuanced understanding of China\u27s domestic–international policy nexus, particularly how centralized authority and controlled bureaucratic channels reduce fragmentation in domestic preferences, thereby shaping China’s negotiation behavior, strategic signaling, and foreign policy consistency
Spatial And Temporal Analysis Of Changes In Mangrove Vegetation Area In Jawai District, Sambas Regency During 2013-2023
Monitoring mangrove vegetation is an essential initial step in mangrove management. The aim of this study was to observe the spatial and temporal changes in the coverage and extent of mangrove vegetation in the Jawai District. The method used in this research was remote sensing through geometric analysis of changes in coverage and the density of mangrove vegetation using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Green Chlorophyll Index (GCI) as indicators of mangrove vegetation health. The results of the analysis using Landsat 8 satellite imagery recorded in 2013 and 2023 as input data revealed that the extent of mangrove vegetation coverage experienced both increases and decreases in certain villages. A total of six villages saw an increase in mangrove vegetation covering 171.2 hectares, including Dungun Laut, Sentebang, Sei Nyirih, Parit Setia, Pelimpaan, and Sarang Burung Kuala. Meanwhile, five villages experienced a reduction in mangrove vegetation area, comprising Bakau, Sarang Burung Usrat, Sarang Burung Kolam, Sei Nilam, and Sarang Burung Danau. The village with the largest increase in mangrove area was Parit Setia, with an addition of 45.075 ha, while the greatest decrease occurred in Sarang Burung Usrat, with a reduction of 32.917 ha. Furthermore, the NDVI and GCI values showed a similar pattern, with an increase in index values from 2013 to 2023. When the NDVI value increases, the GCI value also increases. The density of mangrove vegetation based on NDVI ranged from 0.0249 to 0.4300 in 2013, and increased in 2023, ranging from 0.0451 to 0.5117. The GCI values in 2013 ranged from 0.0030 to 1.1628, and in 2023 they ranged from 1.0499 to 2.5708
Handling Dangerous Goods Issues Based On Radio Frequency Identification as An Export-Import Solution
Indonesia\u27s maritime territory covers an area of 6,400,000 km², accounting for more than 77% of its total area, presenting significant prospects for maritime trade and economic growth through sea trade. With ports serving as important gateways for trade in goods, maritime transportation commands an 80% share of the global market. However, the handling of dangerous goods poses significant risks, requiring strict adherence to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code) to ensure safety and compliance. Current challenges include inadequate regulations, non-compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and cases of document manipulation, which exacerbate safety concerns. This study proposes the utilization of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology as a solution to enhance the process of identification, verification, and real-time monitoring of dangerous goods, thereby improving operational efficiency and accuracy. A Research and Development (R&D) method focused on potential problems identified through stakeholder interviews revealed common issues such as misclassification of goods and lack of transparency in documentation. The new RFID system features components such as tags, readers, and a management system that integrates live tracking and automatic classification verification. After conducting a pilot test, the system showed a 95% accuracy rate in item identification, which significantly reduced misclassification. The recommendations include phased implementation at key ports, cross-agency collaboration, comprehensive training for personnel, and future upgrades to RFID technology with Internet of Things (IoT) integration to further improve transparency and data security in dangerous goods logistics in Indonesia
