This study aims to compare the piperine content in the fruit and leaves of Javanese pepper (Piper retrofractum Vahl.) in six production centers in Bangkalan Regency, Madura, as a basis for mapping phytochemical potential and developing local phytopharmaceutical raw materials. The background of this study is based on the high demand for Javanese pepper as a spice and traditional medicine commodity, but productivity and optimal utilization of plant parts are still limited. Plant samples aged at least five years were taken from six subdistricts in Bangkalan Regency, then simplified powder was made, and piperine content was analyzed using the High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method. The results showed significant variations in piperine content between subdistricts and plant organs. The highest piperine content in Javanese chili peppers was found in Burneh Subdistrict at 225.22 mg/g, while the lowest content in fruits was found in Tanjungbumi Subdistrict at 103.28 mg/g. In the leaves, the highest piperine content was found in Blega District at 19.18 mg/g, and the lowest content in the leaves was found in Burneh District at 5.73 mg/g. In the leaves, the highest piperine content was found in Blega District at 19.18 mg/g, and the lowest content in leaves was found in Burneh District at 5.73 mg/g. In general, the piperine content of the fruit was much higher than that of the leaves throughout the production area. These findings emphasize the importance of selecting plant parts and production locations to optimize the utilization of Javanese pepper as a source of active phytopharmaceutical ingredients, and serve as a basis for developing quality standards and downstream strategies for herbal products in Bangkalan District, Madura
OPTIMASI DOSIS PEMUPUKAN UREA UNTUK PERTUMBUHAN VEGETATIF CABAI BESAR (Capsicum annuum L.) DALAM POT
Plants cultivated in pots face limitations in access to nutrients and water, as well as other growth-supporting factors, compared to those planted in the field. Therefore, understanding the plant\u27s response to the potted cultivation model warrants attention. This study aimed to determine the optimal dose of Urea fertilizer that supports the vegetative growth of large chili (Capsicum annuum). Large chili plants of the Panex F1 variety were sown for 28 days and then transplanted into treatment pots arranged in a Randomized Complete Block Design with 4 replications. The treatments consisted of varying urea doses: 0, 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9× the reference dose of 388.5 mg, equivalent to 0 – 3.497 g urea per plant. This fertilizer dose was split into 5 applications via watering over a 40-day growth period. The variables observed were plant height, number of leaves, and shoot dry weight. Analysis of variance results indicated that urea dose variations did not significantly affect plant height and number of leaves but had a highly significant effect on the shoot dry weight variable (p<0.01). Through quadratic regression model analysis (R2=0.305), the optimal urea fertilizer dose for large chili pepper was determined to be 3 grams per plant, with a predicted shoot dry weight of 2.42 grams. Investigating The Integration Of Critical Pedagogy In Teaching English As A Foreign Language: Perspectives From Senior High School Teachers In Palu
This study investigates the integration of Critical Pedagogy in teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) based on the perspectives of senior high school teachers in Palu, Indonesia, within the framework of the Merdeka Belajar curriculum. Using a qualitative research design, this study explores how teachers understand and apply key principles of Critical Pedagogy, such as dialogue, problem-posing, reflection and action (praxis), and the development of students’ critical awareness of social issues. Data were collected through classroom observations and in-depth interviews with three purposively selected EFL teachers. The findings reveal that the teachers have attempted to implement student-centered learning through classroom discussions, problem-solving tasks, and project-based learning connected to local contexts, including disaster awareness and community issues. However, several challenges were identified, including curriculum constraints, limited teaching resources, insufficient professional development opportunities, and students’ limited readiness for critical engagement. This study concludes that the effective integration of Critical Pedagogy in EFL classrooms in Eastern Indonesia requires context-sensitive teacher training, greater curricular flexibility, and stronger policy support to promote critical and socially responsive English language teaching

Exploring Students’ Preferences Between Print and Digital English Learning Materials at MTsN Makassar
This study aims to investigates the preferences of junior high school students concerning printed versus digital English learning resources at MTsN Makassar. The research included 120 students from Grade IX who completed a structured questionnaire, along with 10 individuals in semi-structured interviews. In the process of data analysis, we employed descriptive and inferential statistical techniques for quantitative data, while qualitative responses underwent thematic evaluation. The research shows that scholars have a distinct liking for electronic learning content (M = 4.04, SD = 0.7) as opposed to their printed resources (M = 3.19, SD = 0.8). Students noted that characteristics like accessibility, interactivity, and engagement serve as important advantages of digital resources, while printed materials were credited with enhancing concentration and readability. Independent samples t-tests revealed no significant differences based on gender (p > .05); however, students with access to digital devices at home exhibited a significantly higher preference for digital formats (p = .040). The thematic analysis revealed three primary themes: (1) the engagement with digital media and the enjoyment it provides, (2) the motivation derived from easy access and constructive feedback, and (3) the essential task of aligning resource allocation with emerging challenges. Studies suggest that applying mixed learning techniques, combining internet-based and physical resources, can facilitate inclusiveness, amplify student interest, and improve the thoroughness of educational experiences in English Language Teaching (ELT)
Preserving Meaning Across Dialects: Translation Strategies of Hadhrami Expressions by Yemeni Undergraduate Students
This study explores how Yemeni undergraduate students translate Hadhrami dialectal expressions into English and examines the extent to which their translations preserve the original cultural meaning. A qualitative descriptive design supported by quantitative analysis was employed to identify students’ translation strategies and the challenges they encountered. Forty-four translation students from several Yemeni universities completed a validated test containing twenty Hadhrami expressions. The findings revealed that students primarily relied on literal translation and dynamic equivalence, while cultural substitution and paraphrasing were used less frequently. Many translations did not fully convey the intended cultural and figurative meanings of the source expressions. The study also found that linguistic, cultural, and strategic factors interacted to hinder accurate and contextually appropriate translation. These results highlight the importance of integrating cultural competence, dialect awareness, and strategy-based instruction in translation pedagogy to help students manage culturally bound dialectical expressions more effectively
Physiological Response and Productivity Indigofera Zollingeriana Mutan-2 After Salinity Stress with Different Defoliation
ABSTRACT
The cultivation of Indigofera zollingeriana is carried out using coastal areas to develop livestock farming, and the genetic structure of the plant can be altered through gamma irradiation technology to enhance the level of tolerance and resilience. Therefore, this research aimed to analyze the physiological response and productivity of Indigofera zollingeriana mutant-2 plant at several doses of gamma irradiation. A separate plot method was used based on a completely randomized design (CRD). The main plot comprised defoliation duration for 40 (B1) and 70 days (B2), while the subplot consisted of gamma irradiation with dose treatment description A1= Control, A2= 100 Gy, and A3= 200 Gy. Physiological parameters of the Indigofera zollingeriana plant consisted of leaf area, index, proline, chlorophyll, and stomata. Meanwhile, productivity parameters, there are dry matter, total leaf, total branch, and stem ratio, were examined using the analysis of variance. The physiological responses of chlorophyll and stomata parameters were also reported in relation to the dose of gamma irradiation (P<0.05) and age of defoliation (P<0.05), respectively. In this context, gamma irradiation treatment affected productivity, specifically in terms of dry matter (P < 0.05). The interaction between the doses had a significant effect on the total branch of Indigofera zollingeriana mutant-2 (P<0.05). The results showed that a dose of 200 Gy of gamma irradiation, with defoliation 70 days after uniform pruning, was the most effective in providing physiological responses and plant productivity.
