Decarbonised closed-loop supply chains resilience: examining the impact of COVID-19 toward risk mitigation by a fuzzy multi-layer decision-making framework

    No full text
Today's primary challenges in supply chains (SCs) include considerable greenhouse gas emissions, waste, and disruptions. Addressing these requires the examination of three interconnected SC paradigms, i.e. decarbonisation, resilience, and Closed-Loop SCs (CLSCs). This paper seeks to investigate and assess the criteria for decarbonised resilient CLSCs, as influenced by the global pandemic, specifically within the context of Iran's small and medium pharmaceutical enterprises, employing a mixed-method approach. Initially, a Systematic Literature Review was employed to identify a categorised list of decarbonised resilient CLSC criteria by determining the impact of COVID-19 on SCs. Afterwards, the list was indigenised via the fuzzy-Delphi method. Two popular Fuzzy Multi-Criteria Decision-Making methods, i.e. fuzzy Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory and fuzzy Interpretive Structural Modelling-Matrix-based Multiplication Applied to a Classification (MICMAC), were then employed to investigate the finalised criteria. This paper has innovatively enhanced these methods by incorporating a multi-scenario analysis approach. The findings indicate that technological advancements, issues related to market and communication, and raw material markets significantly affect other criteria. Transportation and logistics are also crucial in reducing lead times, waste, and CO2 emissions. Two countermeasures are recommended for senior managers, i.e. (i) the identification and application of suitable basic and advanced technologies across each SC process and (ii) engaging in a coevolutionary process beginning with SMEs' cooperation and collaboration towards their co-creation. The importance of regulatory bodies was also emphasised in devising effective policies to improve the markets for raw materials and finished products.Operations Research & Management Scienc

    No full text
This study focused on modelling and analysing photovoltaics and wind systems to meet the heating demand of a commercial greenhouse. The aim is to evaluate technical, economic, and environmental performances of the related systems and to determine the optimum configuration. A novel approach was introduced by integrating hybrid energy systems with large-scale wind turbines and developing a dynamic heat transfer model. A large commercial greenhouse with an area of 26,640 m2 located in Izmir, Turkey was selected for considering Mediterranean climate, and a detailed heat transfer model of the greenhouse were developed considering heat transfers by convection, radiation, ventilation, and infiltration. A combination of air source heat pumps, photovoltaic panels and wind turbines were used for meeting the heating demand of the related greenhouse. Five different on-grid energy systems scenarios, namely (i) Photovoltaics-Heat Pump, (ii) Photovoltaics-Wind Turbine- Heat Pump, (iii) Wind Turbine- Photovoltaics- Heat Pump (iv) Wind Turbine- Heat Pump, and (v) only Heat Pump were considered. The system modelling with a detailed heat transfer analysis of the greenhouse was made by MATLAB. The energy analysis of the systems was performed on an hourly basis for one calendar year. The annual heating demand and the corresponding electricity consumption of the greenhouse were calculated as 497.37 and 114.07 kWh/m2, respectively. Net Present Value, Levelized Cost of Energy and CO2 savings were used to evaluate economic and environmental performances of the systems. Among five on-grid energy system scenarios, the first scenario, consisting of 5271 photovoltaic panels and 20 heat pumps, emerged as the most economically attractive choice with Net Present Value and Levelized Cost of Energy of 547,440.40and0.080146547,440.40 and 0.080146 /kWh, respectively. Critical parameters affecting the economy of this scenario were found to be electricity prices, tomato yield, and photovoltaic panel prices. For environmental evaluation the fourth scenario, integrating wind turbines and heat pumps, achieves the highest CO2 savings of 2,064.73 tons due to increased renewable electricity production and lower life-cycle CO2 emissions of wind turbines compared to photovoltaic systems. This analysis enhanced the understanding of energy dynamics in greenhouse environments, contributing to the advancement of sustainable practices in agriculture.Thermodynamics || Energy & Fuels || Engineering, Mechanical || Mechanic

Dual Band Cavity-Backed Filtering Antenna with Modified Coupling Slot Structure

    No full text
In this study, the loading stub technique is proposed to convert a wideband 2 x 2 full metal cavity-backed antenna into a dual band antenna for satellite communication (SatCom) systems. A wideband 2 x 2 cavity-backed antenna is converted to a dual-band antenna by simply adding stubs to the conventional coupling slot structure, which act as a filter. The filtering antenna does not change the wideband antenna's lateral and longitudinal dimensions and does not distort gain and radiation characteristics within in-band frequency regions. By integrating these stubs, the undesired frequency band of 12.5 - 13.75 GHz between Rx (10.7 - 12.5 GHz) and Tx (13.75 - 14.5 GHz) in-bands at Ku-band is effectively suppressed, which improves isolation and lowers interference. The simulated fractional bandwidths (FBW) for vertical bar S-11 vertical bar <-10 dB are 15.78% (10.68 - 12.51 GHz) and 8.1% (13.74 - 14.9 GHz) at the Rx and Tx bands, respectively. The peak gain values range from 13.06 to 13.92 dBi at Rx and 13.57 to 14.24 dBi at Tx bands. Besides, the out-of-band rejection level reaches 20.7 dB at 13 GHz while covering the entire Rx and Tx bands of the Ku-band.Engineering, Electrical & Electronic || Telecommunication

The impact of cognitive filters on strategic actions and relationships: an analysis from local environmental advocacy in the Aegean Region, Turkey

    No full text
Although several internal and external factors may influence environmental non-governmental organizations' (ENGOs) action sets and networking behaviors, their values and priorities deserve special attention. Existing research highlights the importance of mobilizing resources and utilizing political opportunities in environmental advocacy || however, there is relative silence regarding the impact of how ENGOs cognitively position themselves in a contested field. Through a quantitative analysis of survey data from 117 local ENGOs in the Aegean Region of Turkey, we examine whether and how organizational identity, scope of environmental issues, and core environmental purpose (transactional or informational) as three cognitive filters play a role in shaping grassroots ENGO activities and relationships with diverse actors. A set of regression models indicates that claiming an activist identity, pursuing a higher number of environmental issues, and having a confrontational goal significantly influences local ENGOs' strategic actions and the type and intensity of their external ties. These findings contribute to the discussions around resource mobilization theory and the political opportunity structure framework by highlighting the importance of intangible, less visible, ideological dimensions, and of cognitive framing in mobilizing for environmental causes.Environmental Sciences || Environmental Studie

Integrating digital and sustainable entrepreneurship through business models: a bibliometric analysis

    No full text
While research exploring the benefits and challenges of integrating sustainability and digitalization in new ventures has been on the rise, a comprehensive examination of the accumulated knowledge on this topic remains elusive. Addressing this gap, this study aims to identify the simultaneous focus on digitalization and sustainability aspects in entrepreneurship literature and to investigate how the business model perspective has been incorporated into these studies. Using a two-phase bibliometric analysis of 284 papers from 2005 to 2022 in the Web of Science database, this paper identifies the unique research clusters in the literature. The gathered data was subjected to co-occurrence, citation, co-citation, co-author, and bibliographic coupling analysis. The results reveal that while some studies prioritize digital entrepreneurship with minimal consideration of sustainability, others predominantly emphasize social impact and sustainable development, treating digitalization merely as a means to an end. Additionally, only a small group of scholars have surveyed business models in this context. This study not only offers valuable insights into current trends and patterns in digital sustainability, but also provides a framework and suggestions for scholars and entrepreneurs alike to navigate this evolving landscape. The findings especially highlight the need for business model thinking to connect the digital and sustainable features of entrepreneurship, for the creation of more diverse international scholar networks, and for the execution of in-depth empirical research that allows for the inquiry of particular relationships and mechanisms.Busines
