Quality of Life: Effects of Physical Activity in an Anthropometric, Cognitive and Psychosocial Background, and Variation of Odontoiatric Parameters

    Get PDF
The "Quality of Life" project arises from the need to observe and define the existing interconnection between a "healthy" lifestyle and the quality of life perceived by people. Starting from the W.H.O. (World Health Organization) definitions of quality of life and health, and analyzing the studies that describe the benefits of both movement physical and mental, a protocol three months has been set for the pursuit of a diet and personalized training. For this purpose, 20 healthy subjects from the 1st year of the Physiotherapy degree, who had never practiced sports at an agonistic level, have been recruited. All individuals were subject to initial evaluations to define psycho-physical wellbeing, then they have been divided into two groups: the first group, defined as experimental, followed the protocol for the duration of the study, while the second, was only subject to evaluation. At the end of the three months period, the subjects of both groups were evaluated twice, the first immediately after the last training session, the second was evaluated one month from the latter. The final evaluation aimed at verifying a possible conservative effect on modification of experimental group parameters, even when physical activity and nutrition were not supervised by us. The ultimate goal of the project was to specifically analyze, after three months, the changes in cognitive memory capacity and concentration, the stress experienced in work or study, and psycho-physical wellbeing perceived by the concerned subjects. Data collected during the three evaluations showed that, in the experimental group, as our scientific protocol has altered all these parameters in terms of quality of life in positive terms, modifications are susceptible to changes in the event that physical activity and proper nutrition are not followed

From Krashen to Porcher: The Duo Acquisition/Learning

    No full text
In this article we take into account the following factors characterizing the learning/teaching process of a foreign language: implicit and explicit learning/teaching, as well as awareness of teachers and learners about learning/teaching strategies in the light of information provided by the communicative method of Krashen and Porcher. The aforementioned factors are understood as central to approaches and integrated teaching methods wishing to address the complexities of teaching a foreign language. The understanding of a foreign language-culture or rather the internalization of an non-own system - and participation to the values shared by another group are, despite appearances, among the most difficult skills to integrate to learning "off natural production environment" ie learning driven. What are the roles, styles and strategies of teachers and learners in the learning/teaching process?

The Catenary in History and Applications (La Catenaria nella Storia e nelle Applicazioni)

    Get PDF
The catenary is one of the most common curves; it is, in fact, the shape assumed by a homogeneous and inextensible chain, fixed to the extremities, which is subject only to its own weight. The catenary has always fascinated not only mathematicians but also architects and engineers, who have often used it in their works due to its remarkable properties. In this note, the catenary is introduced by determining its equation and considering its history from Galileo Galilei to the present day, pointing out a historical mistake. Then, some of its applications to architecture and engineering are shown and the catenary is compared to the parabola, a curve that at first sight can look similar to catenary but must not be confused with it. Finally, some variants of the catenary are considered: the weighted catenary and the catenary of equal resistance, highlighting their properties and their practical applications

    Get PDF

Dealing with randomness and vagueness in business and management sciences: the fuzzy-probabilistic approach as a tool for the study of statistical relationships between imprecise variables

    Get PDF
In practical applications relating to business and management sciences, there are many variables that, for their own nature, are better described by a pair of ordered values (i.e. financial data). By summarizing this measurement with a single value, there is a loss of information; thus, in these situations, data are better described by interval values rather than by single values. Interval arithmetic studies and analyzes this type of imprecision; however, if the intervals has no sharp boundaries, fuzzy set theory is the most suitable instrument. Moreover, fuzzy regression models are able to overcome some typical limitation of classical regression because they do not need the same strong assumptions. In this paper, we present a review of the main methods introduced in the literature on this topic and introduce some recent developments regarding the concept of randomness in fuzzy regression

Risks connected with railway transport: sociological-psychological point of view

    Get PDF
The article brings a completely unconventional view of the issue of examining causes of the worst railway disasters in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, as well as marginally in the world. The author is trying to find an answer to the question: “If the individual overviews of emergency events are analyzed, do the results relating to the cause of these emergency events differ?

Valuation of Barrier Options with the Binomial Pricing Model

    Get PDF
Derivatives are products of different nature which are becoming increasingly common in financial markets. In certain cases, determining the assessment criteria can sometimes be a difficult task. Specifically, this paper focuses on one type of exotic option: the barrier option. This option has to satisfy some conceptual conditions which are specified at the time of its purchase and define its characteristics. In order to analyze this type of option more deeply, in this paper we choose a specific one, the so-called barrier option cap, whose value is going to be derived by the binomial pricing model

A Recursive Variant of Schwarz Type Domain Decomposition Methods

    Get PDF
In this paper a slightly different approach to the use of the domain decomposition method of the Schwarz type is proposed. Instead of the standard coarse space construction we propose to use a recursive solution on each domain. Thus we do not need to construct a coarse space but nevertheless we are still keeping O(1) convergence speed. For local problems we use the standard iterative solvers for which the amount of the work for one step is O(N), where N is the number of equations. Due to the fact that the overlapping is under our control we can keep total work in O(N^(1+γ) ) operations with arbitrary positive γ

Relevance of financial information in quick loans negotiation

    Get PDF
Nowadays, most loan transactions are contracted by using the exponential discounting as the underlying standard economic model to value this type of financial operations. In a framework of absence of fees to be paid by the borrower, the interest rate of the exponential discount function is, moreover, the true interest rate of the operation. Nevertheless, there exist a set of circumstances which make this identity false. Among others, these characteristics are: the use of linear discount as the underlying discount function, splitting time when using a nominal interest rate, and the existence of fees in a loan at 0% interest rate. All these cases will be analyzed in this paper in the context of the so-called quick loans
