Probabilità e Statistica nella scuola primaria: esperienze didattiche e proposte
INVALSI tests, with the idea of evaluating schools, and teachers, evaluating students abilities, produce a passage from mass school, in which the goal was to promote cooperation and uniform training of all students, with particular attention to the weakest, to elite school, which enhances competition. We ask ourselves then what are the most important objectives for mathematics in primary school: training, information, cooperation or competition? Or something else? Or a mix of these objectives, and, if so, in what proportions? In particular, in this paper, we deepen the objectives and skills related to probability and statistics. The starting point is that an important role in the teaching of probability and statistics is to be attributed to the game that is the time when children are having to assess situations of uncertainty and make decisions according to their own opinions and experiences
On a Functional Equation Related to Information Theory
The general solutions of a functional equation, without imposing anyregularity condition on the mappings appearing in it, have beenobtained. One solution of this functional equation is useful frominformation-theoretic point of view
On Some Applications of the Vougiouklis Hyperstructures to Probability Theory
Some important concepts about algebraic hyperstructures, especially from a geometric point of view, are recalled. Many applications of the Hv structures, introduced by Vougiouklis in 1990, to the de Finetti subjective probability theory are considered. We show how the wealth of probabilistic meanings of Hv-structures confirms the importance of the theoretical results obtained by Vougiouklis. Such results can be very meaningful also in many application fields, such as decision theory, highly dependent on subjective probability
Mathematical Models for the Comparison of Teaching Strategies in Primary School
Starting from the considerations on modern school of some important scholars, which highlight the complexity of the school system, an analytical path is outlined to identify the best strategies by means of a mathematical model. The method followed is the analytical hierarchical one of Saaty that starts from the investigation of the various objectives, criteria and strategies, and indicates procedures to assign qualitative judgments and to transform them into numerical scores. In particular the AHP procedure is applied to find the degree of effectiveness of various strategies for teaching English, in relation to possible contexts that may arise
Cultura scientifica e formazione degli insegnanti
Scientific culture, if mediated through an adequate pedagogical and methodological-didactic reflection, can be an essential component of the teachers’ education, of their professionalism and their exercise. It is to be nurtured through the actual practice of scientific research, both basic and applied, as far as logical-mathematical, formal and empirical sciences of nature regard as well as of technical matters. Herewith four aspects of great relevance in the present debate are exemplified: the methodology of scientific research, proceeding by problems, the systems theory and teaching conceived and dealt with as a science
The Actuality of Family Pedagogy
Family, gender issues and family education constitute a problematic domain among the most challenging in the last decades, which increasingly require a specific professional aid. Sozialpädagogik – social pedagogy and professional pedagogy have the tools to respond positively to this legitimate demand. In this paper, in the form of a conversation, we take into consideration the status quaestionis concisely, highlighting the main ideas and the today’s real prospects of evolution.
A magical way for educatıon: visual literacy
“Visual literacy is education that enhances understanding of the role and function of images in representation and communication, especially in the media.” (Newfield 2011:82). Debes (1969:27) said that; “ Visual Literacy refers to a group of vision-competences a human being can develop by seeing and at the same time having and integrating other sensory experiences.” Education of visual literacy is important for understanding of true meaning of messages in visual elements. Hobbs (2002 cited from Shurtleff 2006:13) claimed, “Epicureans believed that, in fact, the mind cannot think without images.” Samuels and Samuels (1975 cited from Shurtleff 2006:13) also claimed “the archeological record reveals that the first expressions of thougt are visual, not vocal”. In our daily life, visual technology and media literacy has become increasingly popular in our world. We use when we give information, from websites, give PowerPoint presentations, and sketch on Smartboards to get our memories, ideas across. Teenagers, who have come of age in a technological world , they must learn how they can use visual literacy.Teachers should use, in our age, video games, eager consumers of graphic novels, illustrations, photos, diagrams, graphs, symbols, icons and other visual representations
Dynamics of Welfare for Elderly Protection
Summary , we set ourselves to offer a technical examination relating on elder interventions and changes that they have had in the history of welfare, through the study of historical reference periods on assistance and wellness, providing an interesting support for this study offered by experiential witness personally experienced providing aid and care for the elderly.
Confidence Hypothesis about Efficiency of Specific Strategies (CHESS): A Novel Parameter and its Possible Significance in Application
In this paper a novel term is introduced to cover for a parameter already investigated in a number of experiments conducted in the Democritus University, without, yet, being identified with a specific name. The aim of all those studies was to investigate the learning strategies frequency of use in correlation with the confidence of the subjects as to whether and to what extent such strategies enhance their language learning. In the specific experiment forty eight students from the first three grades in a State Secondary school, in Thrace, Greece, were recruited through convenience sampling, twenty four Greek native speakers and twenty four Turkish native speakers with Greek as their second language. There were sixteen learners out of each grade, eight of low and eight of high level in English, four male, four female, forty eight learners altogether, twenty four male and twenty four female students. The students had to indicate not only the level of frequency of strategy use but also their confidence in those strategies’ effectiveness; this is the introduced term Confidence Hypothesis about Efficiency of Specific Strategies (CHESS). Furthermore, the students used the Vougiouklis & Vougiouklis bar (2008) instead of the widely used Likert scale for the filling in of the questionnaires minimizing time and effort. The questionnaire used was the translated in Greek and validated SILL questionnaire with 50 items. Each of the 50 questions was followed by two bars: on the first bar the students had to specify the frequency of use of each strategy and on the second their confidence about each strategy’s effectiveness.
On a Geometric Foundation of Mathematics (Su una Fondazione Geometrica della Matematica)
Frege with Grundlagen der Arithmetik and Hilbert with Grundlagen der Geometrie are two outstanding figures that are attributed to a fundamental role in the arithmetization of mathematics. However, the latest writings of Frege, released posthumously, testify to his reflection on the nature of mathematics. In them Frege argues that mathematics is all about geometry and begins a theory that aims to define complex numbers geometrically. For this purpose he introduced a notion of identical relationships that tends to set up a geometric aspect ratio. In addition, Grundlagen der Geometrie can be given a radically different reading from that which emphasizes Hilbert's exclusive intention to found geometry on a purely formal axiomatic system. Several authors argue that by his work, and in particular through the arithmetic of the segments introduced in it, Hilbert wanted to emancipate the geometry from instruments outside her, such as numbers, finding them within a substantially synthetic geometry
