On Translation Teaching of Cosmetic Brand Names from the Perspective of Functional Theory
With the rapid development of economic globalization, more and more foreign cosmetics come into the Chinese market and successfully attract Chinese consumer’s eyes. At the same time, companies are beginning to realize the importance of the brand names translation. In order to meet this demand, some universities have set up the relevant translation course. This paper mainly discusses the cosmetic brand names translation teaching from the perspective of functional theory, and it can be divided into five parts. The first part discusses the subject and purpose of the paper. The second part mainly introduces the related concepts and the development of functional theory. The third part speaks of the main features of the cosmetic brand names. The fourth part explains how to apply functional theory to the cosmetic brand names translation teaching, and introduces several strategies. And the final part is the conclusion. Brand names have its unique characteristics, and brand name translation teaching is the same. Through the study, this paper aims at providing suggestions on the cosmetic brand names translation teaching, thereby promoting the domestic cosmetics to go out
Evaluating the Role of Christian Women Organizations in the Fight Against Human Trafficking in Nigeria
The Nigerian nation is faced with a lot of social, political, economic and religious problems. One of the social problems facing the country today is human trafficking. This paper examined the trend in human trafficking in Nigeria and the role of Christian Women Organizations in general and the Women Religious of the Catholic Church in particular, in combating the ugly trend. The paper insists that the fight against human trafficking in Nigeria cannot be effective if religious bodies are not involved. The paper identified wide spread poverty, unemployment, ignorance, porous borders and quest for quick wealth as the major causes of human trafficking in Nigeria. In order to effectively combat human trafficking, the paper recommends among others; the need for a symbiotic relationship between the government and faith-based organizations and the need to take the campaign against human trafficking to the rural areas. The fight against human trafficking needs the supports of all and sundry
Perennial Values of Indian Culture
Culture is the essential and integral cornerstone of a nation. Culture is the base and civilization is the super structure - Culture is like the subconscious and civilization is like the conscious state of mind. Culture is the basic guiding spirit of the civilization. Thus the civilization and culture are the hallmarks of the collective life of man. Culture is the inner stratum and civilization is the outer stratum - civilization embraces the moral and ethical activity of refined human thought and mind, including arts and learning
Water Scarcity: A Global Issue
This chapter explores about the problems that we are facing because of water scarcity. Water is very important in our life and its scarcity can lead us to many problems. Basically, water scarcity is the lack of sufficient available fresh water resources to meet water demand. It affects every continent and is the largest global risk. 0.014% of all water on Earth is both fresh and easily accessible. The unequal distribution results in some wet and some dry geographical locations. Today, humanity is facing water crisis and we are continuously wasting the water available with us. At the current consumption rate, the situation will only get worse. By 2025, two-thirds of the world’s population may face water shortage. There will be many affects of water scarcity such as lack of availability of drinking water, hunger, diseases, sanitation issues, etc. In Cape Town, forecasters have forecasted that the water available with them will last till 16 April. To use the available water for longer, South African Government has reduced the consumption of water from 87 liters to 50 liters a day. If we want to overcome this problem, then we must take certain steps. We must educate people not to waste the water, store water, etc so that this problem of water scarcity can be easily solved
Synthesis of Phenylhydrazine substituted Schiff’s Base Containing Hybrid of 3,4-methylenedioxy: Future Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Candidate
In the previous research, a Schiff’s base containing 3,4-dioxymethylene based compound; (Z)-4-(2-aminoethyl)N-(1-(benzo[d][1,3]dioxol-5-yl)ethylidene)aniline was synthesized and screened for anti-inflammatory activity. But, the study highlighted a quite low edema reducing potential of the compound and it alarmed us that this “lead” right away needs further optimization and more rational designing. To overcome the challenges imposed in front of us, we decided to add an active low-molecular-weight ligand ‘phenylhydrazine’ with a strong belief that the addition of this ligand may successfully augment the edema reducing activity. In the present research, a continued approach was taken into account for enhancing the activity of Schiff’s base containing 3,4-dioxymethylene based compound by substituting phenylhydrazine group. The phenylhydrazine containing compound was similarly screened for determining the edema reducing activity in Swiss albino rats, utilizing the carrageenan-induced paw edema protocol. The experimental molecule expressed remarkable anti-inflammatory activity in comparison to the positive control, indomethacin. The study has opened new doors of research and will positively draw the attention of the fellow active researchers across the globe with a strong conclusive message that by the simple addition of a low-molecular-weight fragment to the existing substrate(s), the biological activity can be amplified by several folds
Kinetic, Isotherm and Thermodynamic Parameters of Phosphorus Adsorption on Sediments of Retaining Sidi Chahed Dam
In this work, the authors studied kinetics, isotherm, and thermodynamic parameters of phosphorus adsorption on sediment samples taken inside the retaining of the Sidi Chahed dam near the upstream side of Oued Malleh. The results showed that the adsorption reaches equilibrium at 6 h of sediments contact with phosphorus solution. The amount of phosphorus adsorbed is important when the pH of the whole is equal to 12.3, while it is lower at pH values lower than 7.7. The results have indicated that the pseudo-second order model is the most appropriate for describing the kinetic data of adsorption, and that of 43.11 kJ.mol−1 value of the activation energy indicates the predominance of the chemical nature of the adsorption. With regard to equilibrium data, Freundlich isotherms are well applicable compared to those of Langmuir. The thermodynamic study has shown that phosphorus adsorption on sediments is endothermic (ΔH0=19.01 kJ mol−1); it increases with increasing temperature. The negative ΔG0 values (−1.05 at T=20 C°; −2.07 at T=35 C°; −2.76 kJ mol−1 at T=45 C°) showed that the phosphorus adsorption process on the sediments of the retaining of Sidi Chahed dam is spontaneous. However, the positive value of ΔS0 (68.47 J.K−1.mol−1) indicates the increase in sediment-solution interface disorder at the time of phosphorus fixation.
A New Class of Ratio-type Estimators of the Finite Population Mean using Two Auxiliary Variables in Two-phase Sampling
Many estimation techniques in sample surveys depend on auxiliary information available for the entire population. If such information is unavailable then one can use two-phase sampling. Motivated from Naik and Gupta,11 several ratio type estimators in two-phase sampling using two auxiliary variables are presented. To the first order of approximation, their biases and MSEs are obtained and, also, the conditions under which they become efficient are obtained. A simulation study is conducted in order to compare the relative efficiency of the proposed estimators with the estimators available in the literature
Buddhism and World Peace
‘Buddhism’ is not merely a religion of faith and practice but it is a time tested scientific religion based on spiritual materialism and dialectical reasoning. Buddhist philosophy is far more relevant on crisis torn world today for establishing world peace on a permanent basis. Buddhism is an outstanding religious theological tradition-a tradition of peace and harmony based on the philosophy of philanthropic humanism and universal fraternity which is a hallmark of Lord Buddha’s teachings transcending all national racial social and cultural barriers. Buddhism believes in the potential divinity of the universal human soul. To Lord Buddha Dhamma is nothing but religious righteousness as the true guiding spirit of humanity
