Repositioning the Academic Library in Support of Nigerian University Educational Programme: A Case Study of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Olusegun OKE Library, Ogbomoso, OYO State
No full textThe repositioning of our academic libraries in Nigeria is desirable to make them perform expected role effectively in the information environment/society. An effective and efficient academic library is an essential component of any high profile of academic institution to serve the students, lecturers as well as other researchers. This study investigated the repositioning of academic libraries to support the university educational program me. This study adopted descriptive survey design. The population for the study consists of all academic library users (registered members) Four hundred (400) questionnaire were distributed from which three hundred and sixty four (364) were returned, which shows that 91% 0f the questionnaire were answered by the respondents. Data were analyzed using frequencies, percentages and mean. The analyzed data were summarized in a tabular form to facilitate the interpretation of the findings. The findings revealed that academic libraries will continue to play a key role in the repositioning and enhance educational development of a society. Based on the findings of the study, it recommends that Information Literacy Skills such as technical, computers and multi-media, communication, and marketing skills should be acquired by all users and staff of academic libraries. This will assist in repositioning and support educational programme in Nigerian Universities. Information literacy will allow the users to develop life-long learning and to become independent learners, motivated learners and critical thinkers

A Study on the Current Trend of Unemployment in India: Educated Unemployment
No full textJob deficient growth is one of the major challenges the country India is facing. Rising unemployment rate creates many super structural problems for India. Its intense nature and drastic consequences has become a serious problem in recent years. At the same time the problem is very extensive; it has attracted wide attention and discussions in the country. Unemployment has many faces but the dimension that has ruptured the economic growth of India is the problem of educated unemployment where educated youth on mass-scale are finding it hard to get a job or work. The number of unemployment, especially among educated persons began to increase with alarming rapidity. Today, our country is facing mass-unemployment among the educated youth. Many educated people are knocking at the gates of offices just for the posts of Groups C and D and get disappointed by their job profile. Numerous cases of suicide among the unemployed young men have been a phenomenon of our time. The present paper tries to find out current scenario and the major reasons for growth of educated unemployment in India. The paper also provides solutions and measures to be taken in order to eradicate unemployment in India

Standardization of the Effect of Water Stress on the Yield and Productivity of Corn (Zea maize L.)According to the Stages of Growth
No full textA field experiment was carried out for the purpose of studying the effect of water stress, according to stages of growth of maize where the experiment was carried out at the Agra technology Research Station, University Malaysia Perlis Padang Besar, Perlis, Malaysia in March 2014 to June 2014 to investigate the influence of studying the effect of irrigation dates on maize crop. For the purpose of studying the effect of irrigation dates on maize crop. The results showed the superiority of the plants that were not exposed to water stress along the growing season, compared with plants that were exposed to water stress along the stages of growth. The results also showed the sensitivity of the plant at the flowering stage and the apparent effect of water stress at this stage on the yield and production of corn. This has a great effect on flowering and grain formation. The results also showed the effect of water stress on the deeper roots as the plant when exposed to water stress will lead to increased root deepened, thereby raising the possibility of access to water. Valley water stress at maturity to influence the characteristics of growth, but this effect was not significant since this stage reached the plant to the end of its growth; therefore, no longer water stress had a significant impact. It is concluded that the amount of irrigation water can be reduced in the maturation stage for low impact. The results showed the importance of providing appropriate moisture in the period of flowering.
Optimization of Sun Tracking Data Handling to Improve Efficiency of PV Module
No full textThe procedure of tracking the sun depends on azimuth, altitude and declination angle of sun, latitude and longitude of a location and others. The orientation of sun around the earth can be tracked by using sun tracking mechanisms to collect the maximum percentage of incidents sun ray normal to the panel. This study is conducted to meet objective i.e. optimizing data handling. Three case studies have been implemented. In the first case, a computerized sun tracking device is assumed to rotate the photovoltaic panel as per the sun movement. The output is accurate, but it is expensive as typical multiple sensors, mechanical drive and microcontroller are used. In the second scenario, the solar panel is fixed at sun azimuth (ɸ) 180° and altitude 58° angle which causes more variations in the percentage of incident sun ray normal to the panel throughout the day. Whereas, in the third case, the panel is supposed to change its direction according to the 12 paths (trajectory) of sun instead of 365 paths and each path is comprised with the monthly average of the sun azimuth and altitude angle. This procedure will reduce data handling/ sun tracking cost as compared to the first case

Analyzing the Extent of Inequality in the Time Uptake of Postgraduate users of Central Library: A Gender Study
No full textIn this paper we have applied the Quantile technique to analyze the iinequality in the time consumption of Postgraduate students belonging to 4 disciplines of Annamalai University. The disciplines Chemistry, Computer Science, Maths and Physics were classified according to the pattern of user’s time consumption level in the Library across gender. A Quantile technique has been applied to analyze the sample. The Distribution function, Lorenz function, Lorenz Plot (Lorenz M. O. 1905) and Gini Coefficient (Gini C. 1909) were obtained through this technique. The framed research question is; what is the extent of gender inequality in the time consumption? The extracted Gini coefficient values for various disciplines are; Chemistry (male=0.000, female=0.106), Computer Science (male=0.000, female=0.000), Maths (male=0.000, female=0.060) and Physics (male=0.000, female=0.000). Modern Librarians are in need of new techniques to measure the users’ attitudes so as they can admin their Libraries in order to deal the real problems effectively and efficiently (Saravanan T. 2013a & 2017)
Culture and the Development of Traditional Medicine in Africa
No full textTraditional medicine has been the dominant healthcare system in Africa before westernization, civilization and colonialism. For people living in the rural areas, traditional medicine is easily available, accessible and affordable. The purpose of this paper is to examine how the cultural way of the life of Africans has contributed to the emergence and development of traditional therapeutic systems in the continent. By explaining the way Africans perceive illness and disease, this paper argueds that various forms of healing were predicated on the socio-cultural environment of the people. The paper therefore opts for concerted efforts in the development of traditional medicine in Africa through policy formulation and implementation. Also, due to its economic and socio-cultural importance, the area of traditional medicine should be explored through scientific research
