Analysis of Filtration Efficiency of Activated Carbon Coated Sand Beds
Sourcing the clean water has remained of the great importance ever since the civilisation has come into the existence. Continuous efforts are being made to find out the innovative methods and techniques to treat water efficiently and economically. In this study, an attempt is made to make efficient water filter, to be used at large scale in water treatment plants, economically and commercially viable. It is made from activated carbon coated sand acquired from thermal degradation of sugar on river sand particles. The carbon coated sand is activated by chemical treatment. It is found that filter function satisfactorily in removing the TDS and dissolved organics from polluted water. The high concentration of carbon on sand have better adsorption power (15% sugar on sand is better than 5% sugar in sand) and higher the number of passes through filter facilitate the better results. Though “ordinary sand” used in conventional systems is good in removing organics but do not removes inorganic dissolved particles. It also could be done by this type of filters. Higher amount of chemicals used in every sector reach back to the prime sources of water. Which requires to be “re-treated” by water treatment plants. Thus, it becomes a necessity to find out innovative techniques to treat water
A Review on Multi-component Synthesis of Furopyrrolone Derivatives: A New Class of Compounds
Furopyrrolone is a heterocyclic organic compound has a bicyclic structure consisting of furan and a pyrrolone ring. It is isoelectronic with isoindolinone. Pyrrolones, pyrrolidines, pyrrolidinones are precursors to many pharmaceuticals. The new synthetic procedures leading to the synthesis of furopyrrolone derivatives. To do this, the starting compound, methyl 2-(2-methoxy-2-oxoethyl)-3-furoate, was converted to isocyanate, regioselectively. This isocyanate was converted into the corresponding urethane and/or urea derivatives by treatment with alcohol and amine. Acyl chlorides are more reactive than esters and carboxylic acids. The ester was converted to more reactive compound acyl azide that was used for cyclization to get furopyrrolones. Other method, methyl 2-formylfuran-3-carboxylate was treated with hydrazine and hydrazine salts. Then, molecular cyclization caused the formation of desired heterocycles via acyl chloride intermediate.
Radiation Dose Error beyond High Density Material in Radiation Therapy
The main purpose of this study is to investigate how accurate pencil beamconvolution (PBC) algorithm is beyond high- density material in radiationbeam. First of all, we created an inhomogeneous phantom containing PVCand water material. Then we obtained the data for various radiation fieldsizes. Measurements were done using the ion chamber. PBC produced errorsup to 7% after beam passes through high density material. It is highlyrecommended not to use metallic objects in the beam path during cancertreatment. Keywords: Dose Calculation, PBC, Inhomogeneity Correction
Emotional Identity: An Advantage or a Setback In context to Jane Austen
Jane Austen’s personal choices in life paves the way for her discussion of the microcosm of women’s culture in the early nineteenth- century England. She gave women independent voices, while remaining within the constraints of the dominant patriarchal culture. At the same time , Austen’s novels depict the lives of women in all their quaint apparels and social amusements which actually reflected the social realities of her times. In doing this Jane Austen , I feel, emphasizes her perception of women who were unique in both reinforcing their emotional identities amidst the society then and in resisting dominant masculine culture that surrounded them. The women in her novels demonstrate their own ambivalence of representing patriarchal culture of domesticity for women as well as embracing the distinct women’s culture that enabled the independent voice of women. In my article I would discuss the role of women protagonist in Austen’s novels keeping in view their emotional identity proves a setback or an advantage for them in the course of the novels , revealing “realism”, the core aspect of Jane Austen’s fictio
Leading Schools Towards Having Happy Class Rooms for Promoting Healthy Minds
Schools are, generally, the second social institutions, after the family, with which the children remain deeply associated for about 14 to 15 years of their lives in their formative period. They join the schools at the age of about 3 years and remain connected up the age of 17 to 18 years of their age. It is during this period that the they lay foundation of their lives. They learn to read, write, speak formally, socialize and start developing skills - mainly the live skills. They largely shape their personality and attitude towards their lives and society in this period; and based on the grooming done in the schools that the children establish themselves as independent and responsible persons in their lives. It is, therefore, essential that the children get adequate and the right supports in their childhood in schools. Understandably, the happy class rooms, safe school environment and proper healthcare of the students - especially in their adolescence (10 to 19 years of age) – virtually promote their proper growth and development.
Public Participation in the Decision-Making Process of Local Authorities in Sri Lanka
Public participation in the local authority level is a vital factor of the context of democracy. It leads to strengthening accountability and citizen empowerment. Scholars use to argue that citizen participation has positive effects at the service-delivery mechanism both in local government level and the quality of democracy. The article focuses on the involvement of local masses in the decision making process of public officials through a combine approach identifying gaps in the existing local government system in for the well-being of general masses. The findings have indicated that the citizen participation of the decision making process is not firmly rooted within the existing organizational culture of the local government system. The mechanism set up used to serve the local community is also obstructed from pro-people initiatives. Further, these outcomes mainly depend on the political setup of the local government, capacity of stakeholders, legislature and structures connected with local governance. In spite of these, the article further argues on citizen involvement which has a positive impact on democracy, especially in the context of ‘ownership’. The local community feels that they are more responsible for their well-being, leads to greater public involvement that contributes towards a higher degree of legitimacy in the decision-making process. The article also concludes that by establishing a participatory decision-making process at the local level creates a healthy organizational culture equipped with democratic principles to strengthen relationships among key stakeholders
Cytogenetic Studies in Indian Population suspected to have Klinefelter syndrome
Klinfelter syndrome is a genetic condition in which there is a presence of an extra copy of sex chromosome X. It is the most common sex chromosomal abnormality seen in males. The objective of our study was to determine the frequency of Klinfelter syndrome and its various cytogenetic types in cases with clinical suspicion of Klinfelter syndrome received at the Department of Cytogenetics, Metropolis Healthcare Limited, Mumbai, India. The period of our study was 2 years from January-2015 to December-2016. This retrospective study was performed on peripheral blood (2-3 ml) freshly collected in sodium heparin green-top vacutainer tube obtained from 421 patients with clinical suspicion of Klinfelter syndrome. All the samples used in our study were received from all over the India and the test requested was Chromosomal karyotyping (KT). The 72- hour old cultures were set and analysed by GTG–banding at 450-550 band level. Out of 421 samples referred, about 83 (19.71%) showed chromosomal abnormality ,68 (16.15%)cases showed extra copy of chromosome X. While, out of 421 cases17(4.03%) cases were detected with polymorphic variations. Knowing the cytogenetic status is very important for the genetic Counselor and clinician for the management
Cellular Automata in Indentifying Coding Sequences in DNA
Biological data is exceptionally immense and unpredictable in nature. This biological data has tremendously helped scientific research immensely. This enormous data must be saved and examined for future study. Protein coding groupings are DNA arrangements that are interpreted into mRNA and in which the comparing mRNA particles are made as a polypeptide chain. Each three nucleotides, termed a codon, in a protein coding succession encodes one amino acid in the polypeptide chain. In a few cases, distinctive skeleton may either guide an offered codon to an alternate grouping or may utilize diverse codons pretty much often.DNA is encoded with information with genetic code which is a set of rules which are translated into proteins by the cells. This paper reports a fast algorithm which can predict the protein regions from DNA sequence. Even though the classifier accuracy is 78.6 but the time to identify the protein coding region is less than 5 nano seconds when tested with CONDOR data set
Coaching Approach for Teaching and Learning - A Book Review
Costa and Garmston (2002) opined that cognitive coaching is defined as a non-judgmental, developmental, reflective model derived from a blend of the psychological orientations of cognitive theorists and the interpersonal bonding of humanists. It is based on the belief that growth is achieved through the development of intellectual functioning. The coaching interaction is focused on mediating a practitioner’s thinking, perceptions, beliefs, and assumptions toward the goals of self-directed learning and the increased complexity of cognitive processing (p. 5). Cognitive coaching focuses entirely on developing internal thought processes and self-directedness of the teacher being coached. The coach ensures that empowering the teacher to be self-sufficient is the focus of each coaching conversation (Rogers, Hauserman, and Skytt, 2016, p. 4). This book review examines the employment of cognitive coaching in the teaching of mathematics in Jamaican secondary schools. The approach was found to significantly improve students’ and teachers’ motivation and as such the achievement of students in both internal and external examinations in mathematics. This book is a teaching guide that sets out a framework for the teaching courses, particularly Mathematics, and it provides tools that can be employed to enhance the teaching-learning process
Socio-Economic View on Street Vendors: A Study of a Daily Market at Jamshedpur
The term ‘Street vendor’ refers to those who are unable to get regular jobs in the remunerative formal sector on account of their low level of education and skills. However, street vending is an important activity related to urban areas. The terms Street vendors describe them are based on time or place where they work. The present study comprehensively covers the in depth views about their daily marketing and some spatial issues of street vendors near Tatanagar Rail Station, Jamshedpur. The present researchers attempt to explore the socio-economic milieu of street vendors of above said areas. The data has been collected by using observation method, interview with the structure and unstructured questionnaire and other qualitative methods including case studies. The study demonstrates that the male street vendors living into better condition with respect to income status compared to the female street vendors. Although, the study also indicates that the pattern of subsistence in the daily market were not comfortable for street vendors; where most of the street vendors were not fit on the street daily market although they have no better option for living the live
