Vicisitudes económicas y políticas del Colegio Seminario de Santa Marta a finales del siglo XVIII
Get PDFThis article reports on the vicissitudes that occurred around the construction and start-up of the Seminary School in the city of Santa Marta in the second half of the 18th century. The construction of these structures was regulated by the Council of Trent (1545-1563), the papal bull Romanus Pontifex of 1455 and the royalcertificates emanating from the Bourbon monarchy. Royal documents and other documents were reviewed, and although these show that the monarchy ordered that the construction of the seminary building should begin after the manufacture of the cathedral, the ecclesiastical authorities (bishops) did not obey, which confronted them with the civil authorities (governors), which in turn caused a series of setbacks, disputes and unnecessary expenses that delayed the completion of the work.El presente artículo da cuenta de las vicisitudes que se presentaron alrededor de la construcción y puesta en marcha del Colegio Seminario en la ciudad de Santa Marta, en la segunda mitad del siglo xviii. La edificación de estas estructuras era regulada por el Concilio de Trento (1545-1563), la bula papal Romanus Pontifex de 1455 y las cédulas reales emanadas de la monarquía borbónica. Se revisaron cédulas reales y otros documentos, y aunque se ordenaba que la construcción del edificio del seminario debía iniciarse una vez terminada la erección de la catedral, las autoridades eclesiásticas (obispos) no obedecieron, lo que las enfrentó a las autoridades civiles (gobernadores) y originó una serie de contratiempos, disputas y gastos innecesarios que retrasaron la culminación de la obra
