High Accuracy Measurement of Total Losses in Fractional Horsepower Induction Motors

    Get PDF
Large and small single-phase and three-phase induction motors are commonly used in industrial applications. The present work represents an attempt towards the design of a high accuracy system for the measurement of fractional horsepower (FHP) induction motor losses and efficiency. The calorimeter designed and built is capable of measuring heat losses of up to 1 kW with an overall accuracy better than 3%. During all tests, ambient temperature, humidity, motor speed and motor frame temperature were recorded using precise digital instruments. The inlet, outlet temperatures and resulting losses were recorded automatically using a high accuracy 12-bit data acquisition system. The preliminary results obtained demonstrate the suitability of the designed calorimeter for the accurate measurement of losses in FHP induction motors

Lycopene Prolongs the Lifespan and Enhances the Cytotoxicity of NK Cells after Ex Vivo Expansion

    Get PDF
Lycopene is a nonprovitamin A carotenoid mainly found in fruits and vegetables, which has been reported to possess a variety of biological effects. The properties of lycopene on human natural killer (NK) cells after ex vivo expansion were assessed in the present study. Results showed that lycopene has a positive effect on NK cells viability and cytotoxicity. Aging and apoptosis started from the fourth week onwards in the cultured NK cells which were obtained from the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). Supplemented with lycopene (5μM) can restore the decreased viability and cytotoxicity of NK cells and reduce NK cells apoptosis caused by aging during fourth-sixth week culture. Its anti-apoptosis effect in NK cells may be related to lycopene which can decrease the expression of caspase 3 and 9 genes. Furthermore, lycopene can enhance the IFN-γ expression in gene and protein level after 7d treatment. However, lycopene did not affect the functional receptor’s (NKG2A, NKG2D, NKp30 and NKp44) expression on NK cells. These results indicated that lycopene has a positive effect on NK cells. As a health product, it may help to prolong the lifespan and enhance the cytotoxicity of NK cells after ex vivo expansion

Solution of Mixture Problem Prioritized Raw Materials Using Mixed Integer Linear Programming

    Get PDF
Mixture problem is the problem of obtaining one or more products from by-products having different contents under the required constraints. Mixture problems should be organized in a way to optimize a given objective function. This is generally a cost optimization, fulfilling specific constraints and conditions and this kind of problems mostly solved with linear programming models. Decision makers want to have the solutions for mixture problems under the different scenarios. One of these scenarios is to use the raw materials which have different priorities in the solution. In this study, a new mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model which finds a solution according to high priorities is developed. The priorities are determined according to raw materials availabilities between 1 and 4. The developed model is practiced on a feed mix problem as a mixture problem and the model is coded by object-oriented programming language C#

Empirical Analysis of the Relationship between Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Growth in Developing Countries- Evidence from Nigeria

    Get PDF
This study examines the effect of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) on economic growth of Nigeria. The main objective of the study is to explore and quantify the contribution of Foreign Direct inflows to economic growth in Nigeria and other macro-economic variable(s). The model built for the study proxy real gross domestic product as the endogenous variable measuring economic growth as a function of Foreign Direct Investment,Domestic capital, Government Expenditure, real exchange rate and Inflation rate as the exogenous variables in the first model while unemployment was expressed as a function of Foreign Direct Investment, Governmentexpenditure and real GDP. Annual time series data was gathered from Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical bulletin, National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the World Economic Outlook spanning 1970 to 2013. The study used econometric techniques of Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) unit root test, pairwise granger causality test,Johansen co-integration test and error correction model (ECM) for empirical analysis. The results of unit rootrevealed that, all the variables in the model were integrated at first difference while pairwise granger causality revealed a unidirectional relationship between Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Economic growth (GDP) in Nigeria and no causal relationship between Foreign Direct Investment and unemployment rate. The co-integration test shows that, long-run equilibrium relationship exists among the variables captured in model but model 2 revealed no hypothesized co-integrating equation. FDI had positive but not statistically significantrelationship with Nigerians economy growth in both the short and long run. The findings from the error correction method show that, the distortion in will adjust itself to equilibrium at 0.3% in each period which is very slow in adjusting to equilibrium in case of any distortion. The study recommends that, the government need to aggressively initiate policies to channel the Nation's domestic savings for investment purposes and enact policies to train human capital to argument increasing FDI into the country to stimulate the economy towards rapid and sustained economic growth

A One-Semester Course Planner for EE Students

    Get PDF
Student course planning at the Department of Electrical Engineering, UAE University is an important process to ensure a student to fulfill the degree requirements of the university in a structured way and without encountering unnecessary delays. Most universities in the world spend a substantial amount of money for bespoke advising and registration programs to suit their needs. The students have faced problems because of a  need of a proper advising system as well as a lack of seeking proper advising. A Student Course Planning Software (SCPS) package is devised in this respect. The software is developed by using the Python computer programming language. The software system guide students in selecting the most appropriate six courses suitable to register in the next semester. The outcome of the course selection is stored in a file to help students with the university registration system

Hybrid Integrated System for Air Bending Optimal Design

    Get PDF
Genetic algorithm (GA) is widely accepted method for handling optimization problems. GA can find optimal solutions for large and irregular search spaces. However, finding optimal solutions using GA is associated with high computational time when coupled with finite element (FE) code, since FE analysis should be applied to each individual of GA populations. A neural network metamodel (NNM) is introduced to reduce the computational time.GA utilizes the NNMas an approximation tool instead of FE. Application examples results show that the metamodelcan be used efficiently to obtainthe optimal process parameters of metal forming operations with large saving in time

Indirect Spectrophotometric Methods for the Determination of Tadalafil

    Get PDF
Two spectrophotometric methods were developed for the determination Tadalafil in pharmaceutical preparations. The methods are based on the oxidation reaction with known excess amount of Ce(IV) and estimation of the unreacted amount using Indigo carmine dye (Method A) and in Methylene blue dye  (Method B). the factors affecting the reaction conditions were studied and the absorbance of absorbance of the oxidation reaction products were monitored at 610 and 600 nm for methods A and B respectively. Beer's law is obeyed in the concentration ranges 11 to 50 and 10 to 55 ppm, the limits of detection and quantification are reported. The proposed method was applied to the determination of the drug in pharmaceutical formulations and the results demonstrated that the method is equally accurate, precise and reproducible as the official methods. The validity of method was established by recovery studies with satisfactory results
