    Effect of Pandemic COVID-19 on Tropical Forest Cover in Small Island: Case Mansinam Island Papua using Google Earth Imagery

    Covid-19 became a global pandemic in 2020 and has multiple impacts on the economy, social, culture, food systems, and also the environment, especially on tropical forest cover in small island. This study aims to determine the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the forest cover of small populated islands. Using remote sensing and geographic information system technology based on high-resolution satellite imagery from google earth imagery, land cover was observed in 2018, 2020, and 2023. This study found that during the 2020 pandemic, tropical forest cover on small populated islands has decreased. Mansinam\u27s forest cover decreased by 4.3%, bare land increased by 80.6%, agricultural land increased by 75.3%, and shrubs increased by 54.9%. Another important finding is that 78.9% of the total deforestation was due to forest conversion to bare land and agricultural land. Land and forest utilization on small islands will increase when accessibility is limited, especially during the pandemic. Future studies will be on the structure and composition of species in locations that experienced deforestation during the pandemic and detailed studies related to changes in the occupations of Mansinam people due to the pandemic that have a relationship with forests

    Attachment relationships are shaped by higher-order cognitive abilities that help individuals regulate their behavior, including internet usage, which is a prevalent activity among students. The purpose of this study is to assess the mediating role of executive function (EF) in the relationship between individual attachment and problematic internet use (PIU) behavior. EF is believed to serve as a buffer against the negative effects of weak attachment between individuals and their parents or peers, thereby helping to suppress PIU behavior. This study employed a quantitative research design with 127 college students from DKI Jakarta. Convenience sampling was used to select participants. Attachment was measured using the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment – Revision (IPPA-R), PIU was assessed using the Indonesian Problematic Internet Use Scale (IPIUS), and EF was evaluated using the Amsterdam Executive Function Inventory (AEFI). The mediation regression analysis revealed a significant indirect effect of attachment to parents on PIU, mediated by EF. It is recommended that parents foster early interactions with their children to optimize their cognitive development and take peer influences into consideration when supporting their children’s behavior regulation

    Perempuan dengan infertilitas di Indonesia seringkali melibatkan keyakinan pada Tuhan, baik secara positif maupun negatif, sebagai coping menghadapi stres infertilitas. Tujuan penelitian kuantitatif ini adalah untuk melihat apakah religious coping (the Brief Religious Coping) memoderasi hubungan antara resiliensi (Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale 25) dan kualitas hidup (WHO Quality of Life Brief). Data dikumpulkan dari 135 perempuan (mean usia 27,8 tahun, SD = 3,58) yang mempersepsi sedang menghadapi kondisi infertilitas yakni sudah menikah minimal satu tahun, tidak sedang menunda kehamilan dengan mengusahakan kehamilan melalui cara alami ataupun program hamil, dan belum berhasil memiliki anak serta menunjukkan stres infertilitas yang tinggi. Hasil uji moderasi menunjukkan hipotesis 1 dan 2 penelitian ditolak, yaitu baik positive religious coping maupun negative religious coping tidak memoderasi hubungan antara resiliensi dan masing-masing dimensi kualitas hidup. Meskipun demikian, uji korelasi menunjukkan temuan menarik adanya korelasi positif antara negative religious coping dengan resiliensi dan dimensi environment. Penelitian ini menunjukkan pentingnya penyediaan sarana-prasarana, seperti informasi kesehatan, layanan konseling, dan komunitas pendukung untuk meningkatkan kemampuan bangkit dalam menghadapi stres infertilitas

    Quantitative Ethnobotany Approach on Local Food Plants in Banceuy Traditional Village, Subang Regency, West Java

    The Sundanese people of West Java, Indonesia, are well known for consuming raw plants, which are part of their food culture and are called lalapan. West Java consists of several traditional villages, one of which is Banceuy Traditional Village, located in Subang Regency. Usually, discourse about food is inseparable from culture since every place has unique dishes and cultures. This study aims to conduct a quantitative analysis of the inventory of food plant data using quantitative ethnobotanical indices. The research method used semi-structured interviews with 32 informants that consisted of two key informants and field-guided observation accompanied by one of the key informants around the village to identify and collect the food plant specimens. A quantitative data analysis was carried out using ethnobotany indices, namely, the Index of Cultural Significance (ICS), Use Values Index (UV), and Relative Frequency Citation (RFC). Banceuy indigenous people utilized 160 local food plant species belonging to 55 families. Fabaceae, Cucurbitaceae, Solanaceae, and Zingiberaceae were the dominant food plant families. These plant species were utilized as sources of carbohydrates, fruits, vegetables, spices, seeds, and beverages. The most applied food consumption manner by Banceuy indigenous people consisted of fresh food consumed, sauté, and boiling. Arenga pinnata had the highest ICS value (116) due to its utilization as seasoning and involvement in traditional rituals. Manihot esculenta and Carica papaya had the highest value in UV (1.81 & 1.69) and RFC (0.97) as they were used for daily consumption

    SNP2-Lys-C markers inheritance, genes expression, and the resistance of second-generation Catfish Clarias gariepinus against Aeromonas hydrophila infection

    High mortality rates in catfish seed caused by motile Aeromonas septicemia disease caused by Aeromonas hydrophila infection. The primary focus is on the genetic selection of the second generation (G2) catfish for resistance to A. hydrophila, utilizing the type-C lysozyme gene at SNP-2 genotype TT. The objective is to assess the inheritance of the SNP2-Lys-C genetic marker from the first generation (G1) Sangkuriang breeders and to evaluate the resistance of the G2 seed to infection. In the experiment, G1 breeders with the TT genotype were spawned, and the resulting G2 seed were challenged with A. hydrophila. The findings indicate that all G2 seed possess the TT genotype and exhibit a higher survival rate compared to the dominant CT genotype seed. The expression of the Lys-C gene in G2 seed is elevated at the onset of infection, decreasing after the seventh day. The expression of the MHC1a and IL-1b genes is also associated with a higher survival rate. The survival of G2 seed correlates with the white blood cell and lysozyme activity, along with an increase in phagocytic activity peaking on the seventh day post-challenge. The conclusion of this study suggests that G2 catfish seed with the TT genotype have stronger resistance to A. hydrophila infection compared to seed with the dominant CT genotype. Keywords: Aeromonas hydrophila, catfish, genotype, lysozyme, resistance   ABSTRAK   Mortalitas tinggi yang terjadi pada benih lele yang disebabkan oleh penyakit motile aeromonas septicemia akibat Aeromonas hydrophila. Fokus utama adalah pada seleksi genetik generasi kedua (G2) lele untuk resistensi terhadap A. hydrophila, menggunakan gen lisozim tipe-C pada SNP-2 genotipe TT. Studi ini bertujuan menilai pewarisan marka genetik SNP2-Lys-C dari induk sangkuriang generasi pertama (G1) dan mengevaluasi ketahanan benih G2 terhadap infeksi. Dalam eksperimen, induk G1 genotipe TT dipijahkan dan benih G2 yang dihasilkan diuji dengan bakteri A. hydrophila. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa semua benih G2 memiliki genotipe TT dan menunjukkan tingkat kelangsungan hidup yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan benih dominan genotipe CT. Ekspresi gen Lys-C pada benih G2 tinggi pada awal infeksi, menurun setelah hari ketujuh. Ekspresi gen MHC1a dan IL-1b juga terkait dengan tingkat kelangsungan hidup yang lebih tinggi. Kelangsungan hidup benih G2 berkorelasi dengan jumlah sel darah putih dan aktivitas lisozim, serta peningkatan aktivitas fagositik yang mencapai puncak pada hari ketujuh. Kesimpulan studi ini menunjukkan bahwa benih lele G2 dengan genotipe TT memiliki resistensi yang lebih kuat terhadap infeksi A. hydrophila dibandingkan dengan benih dominan genotipe CT.     Potential of Eurycoma longifolia, Curcuma zedoaria, and Allium sativum extracts as phytobiotics for shrimp health

    This study evaluated the efficacy of Eurycoma longifolia, Curcuma zedoaria, and Allium sativum in improving the immune response and resistance of whiteleg shrimp to prevent Vibrio parahaemolyticus infection. The study consisted of two phases, an in vitro phase to determine the compounds contained in three medicinal plants as antibacterials, followed by an in vivo phase to evaluate the effect of the medical plant extract on immune response and robustness against V. parahaemolyticus. The results from the first phase revealed that bioactive compounds present in E. longifolia were more varied and had higher concentrations with a lower bactericidal value when compared to those found in C. zedoaria or A. sativum. In the second phase of the experiment, the medicinal plant extract was added to the feed with a dose that was determined according to the first phase results. The treatments tested in the second phase were 1.6% E. longifolia extract dietary addition (EL16), 6.4% C. zedoaria extract dietary addition (CZ64), 6.4% A. sativum extract dietary addition (AS64) and phytobiotics mixture of 1:1:1 (C1) dietary addition, as well as no phytobiotic for negative control treatment and positive control. The results from the second stage demonstrated that dietary phytobiotic extract addition enhances the immunological responses and improves the shrimp survival against V. parahaemolyticus challenge compared to the control group. In conclusion, E. longifolia, C. zedoaria, and A. sativum showed different bioactive compound profiles, which affect their efficacy against V. parahaemolyticus, with EL16 showing higher efficacy.   Keywords: A. sativum, C. zedoaria, E. longifolia, Penaeus vannamei, Phytobiotic   ABSTRAK   Penelitian ini mengevaluasi efikasi Eurycoma longifolia, Curcuma zedoaria, dan Allium sativum dalam meningkatkan respon imun dan resistensi udang vaname untuk mencegah infeksi Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Penelitian ini terdiri dari dua tahap: tahap in vitro untuk menentukan senyawa yang terkandung dalam tiga tanaman obat sebagai antibakteri, diikuti oleh tahap in vivo untuk mengevaluasi efek ekstrak tanaman obat terhadap respon imun dan ketahanan terhadap V. parahaemolyticus. Hasil dari tahap pertama mengungkapkan bahwa senyawa bioaktif yang ada dalam E. longifolia lebih bervariasi dan memiliki konsentrasi yang lebih tinggi dengan nilai bakterisida yang lebih rendah jika dibandingkan dengan yang ditemukan di C. zedoaria atau A. sativum. Pada percobaan tahap kedua, ekstrak tanaman obat ditambahkan ke pakan dengan dosis yang ditentukan sesuai dengan hasil tahap pertama. Perlakuan yang diuji pada tahap kedua adalah penambahan 1,6% ekstrak E. longifolia dalam pakan (EL16), penambahan 6,4% ekstrak C. zedoaria dalam pakan (CZ64), penambahan 6,4% ekstrak A. sativum dalam pakan (AS64) dan campuran fitobiotik 1:1:1 (C1) dalam pakan, serta tanpa fitobiotik untuk perlakuan kontrol negatif dan kontrol positif. Hasil dari tahap kedua menunjukkan bahwa penambahan ekstrak fitobiotik dalam pakan meningkatkan respons imunologi dan memperbaiki kelangsungan hidup udang terhadap tantangan V. parahaemolyticus dibandingkan dengan kelompok kontrol. Sebagai kesimpulan, E. longifolia, C. zedoaria, dan A. sativum menunjukkan profil senyawa bioaktif yang berbeda, yang mempengaruhi efikasinya terhadap V. parahaemolyticus, dengan EL16 menunjukkan efikasi yang lebih tinggi.   Kata kunci: Allium sativum, Curcuma zedoaria, Eurycoma. longifolia, fitobiotik, Penaeus vanname

    Efek Aplikasi Komposit Pati Terhadap Kadar Glukosa Darah High Fat Diet Rattus novergicus

    Beras, umbi-umbian, dan pangan olahan dari tepung-tepungan dan pati seperti mie, pasta dan bakery merupakan bahan pangan utama bagi masyarakat Indonesia. Tanaman daluga berpotensi sebagai sumber pangan yang baik, mempunyai komposisi karbohidrat dengan kompisis amilosa dan amilopektin yang baik sehingga memberikan karakter pencernaan yang lebih sehat di pangan olahannya dengan mengurangi percepatan pembongkaran karbohidrat menjadi gula. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian komposit pati daluga, tepung jagung dan tepung beras terhadap kadar glukosa darah Rattus novergicus yang diinduksi high fat diet. Pengujian in vivo menggunakan 18 ekor Rattus novergicus jantan dengan modelling syndrom metabolic. Darah tikus dikoleksi melalui vena orbitalis mata pada hari ke-0, 7 dan 14 untuk pengujian kadar glukosa darah. Metode pengujian ex vivo dilakukan nekropsi setelah perlakuan 14 hari dengan pengambilan sampel usus bagian jejunum untuk pengamatan laju absorbsi glukosa pada usus. Data dianalisa menggunakan perangkat lunak R-Software. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa data yang diperoleh pada hari ke-14 terdapat perbedaan signifikan antara kelompok (p<0,05) sedangkan, pada hari ke-7 tidak adanya perbedaan yang signifikan antar kelompok (p>0,05).     Digital Entrepreneurship on Purchase Decisions: Analysis of Content-Based Business, Online Store, and Business Matchmaking

    Backgrounds: The advancement of technology has significantly impacted various sectors, including food and beverage (F&B) companies. Previously, trading, shopping, and promotion activities were conducted directly, but now these activities are primarily online. Consequently, F&B owners need distinctive characteristics and effective use of digital media to stay competitive.Purpose: This study aims to determine the influence of digital entrepreneurship on purchase decisions within F&B companies in West Java, Indonesia.Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative research method was employed, surveying 100 respondents from F&B consumers using purposive sampling. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using SmartPLS v.4.0, including validity and reliability tests.Findings/Results: The study found a significant impact of digital entrepreneurship on purchase decisions. Positive influences were noted in content-based business, community-based business, matchmaking business, and promotion. However, the online store variable showed a positive but statistically insignificant effect.Conclusion: The results underscore the importance for F&B proprietors to strategically integrate digital entrepreneurship elements to enhance and optimize purchase decision dynamics.Originality/value (State of the art): This research highlights the growing significance of digital entrepreneurship in the F&B sector, offering insights into how various digital strategies influence consumer purchasing behavior, which is crucial for adapting to the evolving market landscape.     Determinant of Entrepreneurship Action of Resettled Peasant Displaced By Land Acquisition

    Background: In Indonesia, land acquisition policies prioritize providing compensation in the form of cash. This policy allows the community to obtain replacement land, investment, business capital, etc. Entrepreneurship is widely recommended as a more sustainable solution for the livelihoods of peasants who have lost their agricultural land. Entrepreneurship is a strategic solution for unemployment and employment discrimination of land-lost peasants. Purpose: This research examines the entrepreneurial actions of peasants who lost land due to land acquisition in Indonesia. Design/methodology/approach: The entrepreneurial actions of peasants who lost land due to land acquisition were revealed using questionnaire survey data from 125 farming households relocated due to the construction of an international airport in Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta. Finding/Result: The research results show that entrepreneurial actions after land acquisition are significant with the variables of intention (feasibility), age, income, and understanding of land acquisition policies. Displaced peasants who have the confidence to conduct entrepreneurship are primarily in their older age with higher incomes and better acceptance of land acquisition policy.Conclusion: Job/business training must continue on an ongoing basis, and mentoring and supervision must be carried out until people feel capable of becoming independent entrepreneurs. Originality/value (State of the art): This research was the first study on land-lost peasants’ entrepreneurship due to land acquisition in Indonesia. The research results were expected to provide new evidence and understanding regarding the influence of land-lost farmers\u27 knowledge of land acquisition policies on entrepreneurial actions.
