Exploring Key Themes in Halal Tourism Studies: A Systematic Literature Review Approach

    Get PDF
Halal tourism has grown rapidly over the past two decades, becoming a strategic pillar of the global industry. The expansion of the Muslim travel market, reaching millions of international arrivals annually, underscores the growing need for destinations, products, and services consistent with Islamic values. Therefore, this study aims to identify major themes and gaps in the halal tourism literature through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) based on PRISMA guidelines. Using the keyword “halal tourism” in the Scopus database (2014–2025), a total of 659 articles were initially retrieved, with 31 fulfilling the final inclusion criteria after screening for access, language, and relevance. The results showed that Indonesia dominates halal tourism literature (28 articles), with case studies and surveys being the most common methods. Thematically, studies cluster into nine categories, namely Muslim tourist behavior and loyalty, policy and governance, branding and promotion, religious moderation and local wisdom, destination strategies, halal food consumption, technology and digitalization, literacy and social capital, as well as certification. Previous studies have largely focused on tourist behavior, while implementation and certification remain underexplored. In general, halal tourism is a multidimensional field integrating culture, governance, branding, and technology beyond mere compliance with Islamic law. Future studies should focus on practical implementation, certification systems, and digital transformation. Strengthening these areas will enhance competitiveness, ensure inclusivity for Muslim travelers, and support the sustainability of halal tourism as a driver of equitable growth in the global landscape

Bird Diversity and Existence at Pringtali Block: Implications for Conservation in Meru Betiri National Park, Indonesia

    Get PDF
Meru Betiri National Park (MBNP) is one of the conservation areas with an essential bird habitat in East Java. In the conservation monitoring and evaluation framework, we studied the diversity and existence of birds in the bird hotspot (Pringtali Block) as an implication for bird conservation in the MBNP. Bird observations were collected during January-February 2023 at the Pringtali Block using the point count method at six representative sites. The primary data recorded included bird species, abundance of each species, and frequency of encounters. Meanwhile, the secondary data were obtained from web queries covering bird conservation status and distribution through https://www.iucnredlist.org/. Data analysis was conducted in three stages:  determining species composition, species diversity index (H\u27), and species existence value (Ef). The results recorded 70 bird species, consisting of 57 genera and 33 families, in the Pringtali Block of MBNP. The diversity index of birds was included in the high category (H\u27 = 3.31). The average existence value (Ef) of the bird is 48.57 or x̄=3 s, which are included in the medium category. This reveals that birds in the Pringtali block have important structural and functional values in the MBNP ecosystem. This value also illustrates the importance of the presence of a bird species in the ecosystem and represents the uniqueness of the bird species. The birds with the highest Ef values were the Javan Hawk-eagle Nisaetus bartelsi (86.67) and White-rumped Woodpecker Meiglyptes tristis (86.67). Both species have low frequencies, are an endangered category, and are endemic to Java. Therefore, conservation efforts associated with MBNP have been successful

Characteristics of Nitrogen-Fixing Bacteria Isolated from the Rhizosphere at Kaolin Lake, Belitung, Indonesia

    Get PDF
Former kaolin mining has poor physical and chemical properties for plants. The low nutrient content makes difficult for plants to grow. Nitrogen (N2) is an important macronutrient for plants, but it can only be absorbed in the form of ammonium ions (NH4+) or nitrate ions (NO3-). Therefore, it is necessary to transform nitrogen, which is able to change the molecular form so that it can be absorbed by plants. The strategy that can be done is using nitrogen-fixing bacteria. This study aimed to explore and analyze the diversity of nitrogen-fixing bacteria based on 16S rRNA and nifH gene from the rhizosphere of the Kaolin Lake area. The method started with bacterial isolation from rhizosphere soil samples. Selected isolates were tested for ammonium content to determine the ability of isolates to fix nitrogen. In this study, 13 isolates had the ability to fix nitrogen, two of which had a high ammonium concentration, namely RBN 5.6, and RBA 2.3. The highest ammonium concentration was produced by isolate RBN5.6 amounting to 7.55 μg/ml. Based on 16S rRNA gene identification, isolate RBN5.6 was similar to Burkholderia cepacia and isolate RBA2.3 was similar to Bacillus aquimaris. Based on the detection of the nifH gene, isolate RBN5.6 was identified as a protein-encoding dinitrogenase reductase gene group cluster from the Stutzerimonas stutzeri

Halimeda opuntia is a type of green algae that is abundant in calcium carbonate. The extraction process for calcium from H. opuntia, particularly regarding the extraction duration, has not yet been fully optimized. This study aims to determine the optimal extraction time for calcium from H. opuntia by evaluating parameters such as calcium content, color, microstructure, particle size, and the presence of chemical functional groups. The method used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) with a single factor: extraction time with three treatments (1, 2, and 3 hours). The sol-gel method was used for extraction. The parameters were analyzed for yield, calcium content, moisture, ash, protein, color, particle size, microstructure (SEM), and chemical functional groups (FTIR). The results indicated that extraction time significantly affected yield, calcium content, ash content, lightness (L*), redness/greenness (a*), yellowness/blueness (b*), ΔE, and whiteness index (WI). The optimal extraction time was determined to be 1 hour, producing the highest calcium content of 30.79±0.56%. The best treatment also yielded values of 24.11±0.57% for yield, 3.36±0.56% for moisture, 81.76±0.36% for ash, and 0.90±0.10% for protein. The color parameters L*, a*, b*, ΔE, and WI were recorded as 83.83±0.65, 0.34±0.05, 8.84±0.21, 13.01±0.48, and 84.29±0.65, respectively. Prolonged extraction times increased the yield but caused a decline in calcium content and resulted in a more pronounced yellowish coloration. The sample that was extracted for one hour had a rough, spherical surface with particles that were not clumped together and were all the same size, 3.25 nm. FTIR analysis showed that calcium carbonate was present, with signature absorption peaks found at 1,407.1 cm⁻³ and 872.2 cm⁻³. We concluded that an extraction time of 1 hour is sufficient for efficient calcium extraction from H. opuntia
